When I went in, I asked…read moreat the counter, and the staff member told me they take American Express, so I started to look around. Huge selection of books, school supplies, gifts, and much more. I was inside for almost 2 hours. It is quiet, but the staff was attentive to those needing help. There was a visiting author on the second floor that I would have loved to sit in on, but it was obviously in German, so I didn't. There is only one small area with books in other languages, about 200 titles in English, and a few in other languages. All of the books looked like either recent releases or the classics....I had a hard time resisting buying too many to fit in my suitcase! When I paid for my items, they put the small things in a paper bag, but on my way out I found a beautiful German copy of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice for only €9....it's coming home with me! I went back in and bought a cute tote bag to carry it on my walk....the tote was €2.50, but it's another souvenir!

This is a very nice, small book store in the middle of the Old Market. It's also the only place to…read moreget postcards of Landstuhl! The staff is friendly and helpful and all of the literature is in German. (We are in Germany, after all..) There is an area for greeting cards, an area for magazines, another for little souveniers/toys relating to books. German school kids can also get their supplies here. Supplies are very specific for each class in Germany, so it helps to have a pro get them for you. Parking is fairly easy and the atmosphere is pleasant.

This was just what I needed. I'd say this is a medium-sized bookstore chain, with a pretty nice…read morefeeling to it, though it is not as personal as a privately owned establishment. I was able to find German-language books on any subject, and there is a pretty good English-language section there, too. A nice selection of history, gardening, cooking, fiction, dictionaries like Langenscheidt, what must be the largest selection of Teubner cookbooks on earth, Dr Oetker cookbooks, and more. The employees were helpful and friendly and helped me hunt for a book title I wanted. The employees were kind of funny, actually. I was trying to speak German to them, but they gave me a blank look and immediately started speaking perfect English back to me. I must have been murdering their language and didn't know it, or have a horrble American accent, or both. Oh well. Spending some time in this place is a nice way to enjoy the evening, pouring over books, dreaming of things you'd like to do or places to see, learning about the larger world around you. Open since 1986 this cool little bookstore has an awesome collection of rare and interesting books…read moreand is spread over many floors. It houses way more books than it looks like it was from the outside and has a really quaint and cozy bookstore vibe. The staff was also very polite and we were able to find some really interesting titles. As you would guess most of the titles are in German, but I was able to find many English versions as well. It's free to enter and I believe this is a must visit while in Heidelberg, especially for any reading fans.
