A horrible experience with Budget in New Zealand. We rented a car early this year in the southern island. As there is not many cars available, they gave us one with damage in front. They said that they would mark on the paper and put a yellow stick on the car key. We should be fine. Even though they marked on the picture of the car, but did not check "existing damage". We were hurry and did not check the paper carefully. However, we took the photos of the place that was damaged. When we returned the car, we showed the staff the mark on the picture and the key with yellow stick. The staff said it is fine. Then months after we returned, we were charged $380 on our credit card. When we call the customer service, we were first told that it was a traffic violation ticket. After a few emails, they said that it is due to a body damage. I called customer service again, try to give them the evidence that it was an existing damage. The person told me that the case is closed. We tried to get our credit car company to dispute and there was no result. Finally, we received a letter telling us that if we don't pay the amount, we would need to pay penalty, etc. We submitted all the evidence to the collection department. After another 2 months of investigation, they still charge us $380. They just wanted to overcharge us to get back from their low rental fee. read more
