I had to whisper something to myself over and over again before walking into Buffalo Exchange, as I usually do..."you aren't here to buy, you aren't here to buy, you aren't here to buy!" Normally, I ignore myself because what fun is it if you don't get a little something?! I went specifically to trade in some clothes/shoes for some cash. I did so and I got a really nice offer for what all I traded. What I really like about Buffalo Exchange is that they give you the chance to donate what they don't take from you to the Battered Women's Shelter. I thought this was great and I did exactly that with the few things they didn't purchase. The girl at the counter was a doll with long dark hair and she was really good about telling me every now and then what we were up to as far as my cash or store cred value. It was pretty packed, but I expected it to take longer being that it was a Saturday mid afternoon, but it wasn't too bad and she had everything done within about 15 minutes. I used to shop and sell to BE in Houston and just like the people in Houston, SA has some buyers who are pretty great about knowing their brands and exactly what they're looking at. Pretty much on the money! I will most defiantly be back for some trading or possibly a little shopping. I did see a super cute Marc Jacobs spring/summer sweater there for only 18 bucks and looked to have a ton of life left in it. Like I said though, I gave myself a big pep talk and prevented myself from using up all the cash I made. I didn't see a TON of stuff that sparked my interst like I always do at the Houston location, but this is a new store and it'll take a little while to get some good merch, as it does with any resale shop, but I did see a TON of potential! Finally having a Buffalo Exchange in San Antonio....great. The fact that they took pretty much all I had to sell, even better. A really cute location with friendly people, awesome. I like this Buffalo Exchange! Yes, it is tiny in there but I find great stuff for great prices. And yes, the Austin one is bigger and has crazier stuff but the SA one has gems in here too. I really would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to look adorable and original. read more

Loved this place! I got two skirts- $4 each! The store is a good size with a good selection. It's all newer stuff so don't expect anything vintage here, but you can find vintage-like or inspired things (for example, one of the skirts was a 70s like swede black and tan button up mini). You can definitely find something great here, but since it is newer stuff, a lot of it falls in that grey area of not quite on trend, but not old enough to be stylish. However, I doubt you'd regret coming here. Staff is super nice, they all say hello when you walk in but they aren't pushy. The store is organized well and it's set up in that each type of clothing is all one price. Skirts were all $4, shirts $5, dresses $7, sweaters $7, etc. Great prices, clean, multiple dressing rooms. I had no idea this store was a Buffalo outlet until I was in line, lol. Regardless, I had the most amazing experience here!!! I was shocked at how many items still had the original tags and the amount of upscale brands they offered. I scored some beautiful Free People pieces, as well as Urban Outfitters brand items. I picked up 7 things for $28, I was in shock! They have a noticeably smaller men's selection, but the women's section is worth checking out. Nothing is over $7 and they have tag deals such as 50% off, $1 deals, etc. Clothes in good condition & cleaner than your traditional thrift. I lived in Austin for a couple of years when I was a wee bit younger and I loved shopping at Buffalo Exchange. When I heard one opened in San Antonio, I got there as quickly as I could. It just happened to have opened right at the time that I find myself with a closet so full of clothes I can't move around in there. So, I spent a couple hours pulling out the stuff I don't wear and headed on down to Olmos Dr. And I'm quite happy I did. The store was great. Quirky as ever with some interesting characters behind the counter. The girl who helped me was tatted and pierced all over - I felt like I was in Austin again! She was hilarious and having tons of fun at work which makes being there a happy experience. I lucked out and they wanted a lot of what I came to sell, which also made me a happy customer. And I was able to resist turning around and spending it all which was another plus. But, I'll be back. There were a ton of great finds in there. I can't wait to explore them! read more

This is the best thrift store I've found in San Antonino. They had a huge selection of really cute pieces. I scored a pair of Jack Rogers Sandals and an Altar'd State dress both for 7$ or less. I had wanted a pair of JR sandals forever and to find them in my size and for only 7$ was amazing. Its a bit small, but I wasn't busy at all when I went and the staff was really nice. 10/10 I'm definitely going back to this store! read more

Awesome place, lame staff. This is a cool spot to find random pieces that can really tie an outfit together. And definitely a great spot to run to if you don't want something new, but don't want to waste time trying to sift through a goodwill or two, or three. I did not really find the staff to be helpful on this particular day. It seemed as if the people on the floor were either shopping for themselves or busy talking with one another instead of doing something productive. I only checked out the location because I am so in love with the Austin location. Once I visited this one, and found the staff to be too busy to be asked anything at all, I have vowed to keep to the ATX location on my frequent trips to and fro. I suppose a cool alternative to this place would be to just stick to regular second hand stores. The price will be better, and you won't feel bad paying the extra few bucks for a piece after you had been ignored the entire time. read more

I really can't overemphasize what a pleasant experience I had here. Sold a few dresses and some shoes, but ended up spending that credit and more! The girls behind the counter were really helpful, friendly, and unassuming. They were sure to greet me, were prompt with service, and carefully explained why they passed on certain items. (Not true at all BEs-- I'm lookin' at you, Los Angeles!) The store was really well organized (by size), clean, and the dressing rooms were super nice. There were some beautiful items here. I had to stop myself from continuing to browse out of fear for my checking account, but got some gorgeous dresses anyway. I saw a lot of designer jeans for a steal, so be sure to check them out e.g. Lucky, 7 for All Mankind, Juicy, Express, AE, and everything in between. They are pretty picky about what they buy, so the ratio of gems:duds is waaay higher than your average thrift store-- thanks BE! I like the philanthropy aspect of Buffalo Exchanges. In addition to donating clothes (see below), if you don't take one of their plastic bags (and you shouldn't), they give you a token to deposit in the boxes of one of three charities. For each token, they donate 5 cents to that respective charity. Cute! To be picky, the pricing is messy at times. This is great when you get find a pair of $200 jeans for $20, but not so much when the dress from Target is priced for $20 too. But overall, they have a decent system for ensuring that you pay more for the right brands-- just keep your eyes peeled. Tips for selling: *Generally speaking, I think it's wise to stick around the counter when they sort through your things, as opposed to browsing the store. Gives you an opportunity to ask questions, and for them to explain the choices they made so you are all the wiser for next time. *It is worth reiterating that they really are looking for what's in fashion RIGHT NOW -- or else, exceptional classic vintage pieces. The girl at the counter told me that she often tells customers that they are pretty much looking to buy the stuff that you don't want to get rid of: what you're into wearing right now. Which is obviously a sticky situation, but it's a good rule of thumb. So if you bring in more dated pieces, just be ready for them to pass on them and don't be offended. (Rejection is hard!) *BE is very careful about selecting garments that are in really top condition. They will spot the tiniest stains and don't take clothes that look pretty worn, so be sure to bring in garments that look essentially new. *For the passes, they can donate your clothes to the Battered Women's Shelter, which is a great cause and a good way to get rid of your clothes without making an extra stop at Goodwill. Why other stores don't do this, I can't say -- it seems like such an easy way to give back! (Plato's Closet??) *Make plans to bring your own bags to carry out purchases -- see above. read more

Today was my first time going to the San Antonio Buffalo Exchange. I walked out with six blouses, each was only $4.50! I recently decided to renovate my wardrobe, which can be a daunting task when you don't have a lot of money to spend. I tried on ten items and bought six - I am very picky. I even got items from JCrew and Loft that looked like new. My only complaint about this store is that they don't separate by size, which is a waste of time and a let down when you find something you like that isn't your size. The clerk was friendly and immediately greeted me as soon as she freed up. She also made a point of noting that all clothes were $7 or less; however I was actually there to sell clothes. They do a very poor job of communicating that they no longer buy clothes and only sell them now. When your old business model was based on buying and selling you should really do a better job of communicating major changes like this. It would be like if Gamestop stopped trading in video games without telling people. It creates a very poor customer experience and Buffalo Outlet is WAY too out of the way to be trying to pull stuff like this. read more

Like a lot of fashion forward San Antonionians, I have been making the sojourn to the North for over a decade to visit the Buffalo Exchange in Austin-- and let me tell you, I was so excited when we finally got our own location! When I heard the rumor mill buzzing about an opening, I finally went in to do some shopping. I found some great stuff-- Kimchi and Blue dresses, Doc Marten's in great condition, great everything, just like what I would expect in the store. I sold some items to a girl with a cute blond bob who really seemed to know what she was doing. Everyone seemed super nice and friendly, and I think that my experience was better than I ever had in Austin. I went back again, this time with more stuff to trade, and this is where things got a little weird. I brought in a current Stella McCartney dress that I was given for my birthday that didn't fit-- I had never worn it, it was in great condition, and this time, a little girl at the front counter with black hair dressed in gothy clothes passed on it! I was really shocked. I also brought in a few vintage caftans that were in perfect condition with all of their beading still in mint condition. I'm never a sourpuss about what they take in trade and what they pass on, but I wasn't even given an explanation or really even addressed for that manner. She didn't really seem to know what she was looking for and seemed confused about a lot of the stuff that I brought in, and was really disorganized. I got some money and got some super cute outfits-- and had great service once again at the fitting room and also at the register-- but I was still a little mystified as to why someone would pass on such awesome items. I plan on coming back, I just wish that all of the buyers were as consistent and nice as the first girl I went to. read more

This outlet should not carry the Buffalo Exchange name as it resembles something more of a Goodwill. None of the styles are remotely recent and many of the clothes were ripped or torn.
