There is tv's located around the bar, so would seem like a great place to catch some sports. There is also a pool table should that take your fancy. They had 6 cask ales at the time we were there. The range is all part of the Marston's/Banks's lineup but that's fine since they have a good range of beers and some excellent ones. The beer was in excellent condition. Service was good. The place itself is a neat, characterful old pub with different rooms, and a small bar area not connected directly to the rest. It's on a narrow street in the heart of old Shrewsbury near St. Alkmund's Church and the old Prince Rupert Hotel.

It's not the ideal place for a drink with a couple of mates (more so with a girlfriend/boyfriend, but there's still better places) unless you're sitting outside in the sun. Great food here, though. The interior could do with a refurbishment, but is very homely and welcoming, along with warm and friendly staff who are very good at their jobs. Menus given to us and we were left alone to decide. The menu is limited, that's not necessary a bad thing. What was on offer can be a risky however, they have to be cooked to perfection to pull them off. We had a few questions about some of the mains and drinks. The reply from the waitress was "I have no idea", she fetched another waitress to help, and the reply was "I don't know". We just wanted to know what the mains are served with, as my friend cannot eat eggs; our other question was what was in a cocktail on the menu. Once we ordered service was prompt. Before our order cam we had a complimentary starter. Unfortunately it wasn't cooked well, so decided it may be the chef trying something out so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. We went for 24 hour slow cooked pork for our main. The slow cooked pork was tough, and different cuts of pork served with it were cooked within an inch of its life. The venue and atmosphere is lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. If they can work on staff knowledge, iron out a few problems with the food, they are on to a winner. Phone signal was poor so wi-fi would be helpful. Also, for the price I'd like a few other services such as coat checking, better chairs and tables.

Beautiful surroundings and all round lovely vibes. My only complaint was the waitress seemed very stressed and forgetful and the service was sooooo slow. I went back in for a packet of pork scratchings to take home but four people waiting and no one manning the bar I gave up after 5 minutes lol. Need more staff or better trained ones!

Had the cheese board because I like Wensleydale which was good. The other three cheeses all in good proportions not so tasty but ok. Probably full of chicken! I would recommend as when in area I often go here. But personally if I lived in the area I would not go here but stay at home. Just good food aimed at premium market
