It is very close, definitely within walking distance once you leave the port. Since they are closely associated with the cruise boat visit, they close 90 minutes before the boat is scheduled to leave. We arrived about 15 minutes before close, and all vendors were still there. This was the second to last cruise day for the town....what's funny is that my brother and I will be back for the last cruise day in about 10 days. In terms of vendors, it was mostly crafts, clothes, and soaps...things that people would bring back as souvenirs. Some accepted credit cards, and there were a couple of vendors who were willing to change USD to New Zealand dollars, since most vendors accepted only cash. As expected, all the vendors were very friendly and talkative. I did pick up a nice souvenir that won't take up much space.

I used to be able to find their shoes in Ballantynes in Christchurch, but they haven't sold McKinlay's in quite some time. I am afraid that the owners of McKinlay's know how to make excellent shoes but do not know how to market and distribute their shoes. I suppose that as loyal customers like me grow old, the awareness of this great brand will fade away as we all die off.
