Really love this spot. My boyfriend and I were looking for a cozy place to get ramen on a rainy night, and this popped up on yelp and google. As a lifelong vegetarian, I really loved all the options, as ramen places usually only have one veg option! And double points for a meat option for my bf. We got the veggie gyoza, a mocktail, a boba tea, a spicy vegan nugget ramen and a pork ramen, and everything was really tasty. I especially appreciated that the boba was made with nondairy milk!! The tandoori flavor was subtle, but it's hard to go wrong with crispy, melt-in-your mouth potatoes. I also enjoyed the vegan golden nuggets. These were also quite crispy with a bit of seasoning, and tasted like classic chicken nuggets. I tried the oyster bay buns. They were a little messy to eat and some of the mushrooms were hard to chew. I loved the slight sweetness of the bun. Very filling and could be a meal on its own. I dont know if this was an off day, how they do take out or just the quality they strive for. The sushi looked like scraps from uneaten plates of food and tasted as such. The "crispy" tempura was stale af. The fried rolls (harumaki) were soggy and sitting on rotting lettuce. The dumplings, although the only decent portion of the order, had chewy filling and didn't have much flavor. Seeing as they didn't provide much sauce (about 1/2tsp for the harumaki and gyozas), ginger (not that I'd want more the table scraps tasted foul) or wasabi (they added 1/16th tsp of something green but I didn't dare to venture more); I think they may be on their last leg. Because there is no other for stealing someone's money and serving them straight up dookie. Overall I'm mad this was the only affordable thing I could find. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The side salad was refreshing and I liked the dressing. The buns were fluffy, and came with a generous portion of pork belly. One of the pieces was very fatty though and the buns did fall apart/it was messy to eat. My friend got the Salmon Sashimi Rice Bowl but she only thought it was okay and said some of the ingredients in her bowl didn't taste right. We were on Christmas vacation in NY and staying in the Bushwick area. I found Buntopia on Yelp and the menu worked greatly for us, bao, ramen, and sushi all in one place! The food did not disappoint the baos were stuffed, ramen was delicious and I never had sushi with black rice and it was so good. The service was amazing, our waitress was attentive and extremely welcoming. There were cultural designed curtains that separated the table which was cool. A bit disappointed! I had high hopes for Buntopia and I was let down. I was craving sushi and wanted to stick with places in my neighborhood. My friend and I each order two rolls and then chicken nuggets to share. The nuggets were gross and we didn't understand why. Knowing the restaurant focuses on a combination of meat and plant based we decided to ask what the nuggets were made of. Our server tells us they're 70% chicken and 30% soy which is explains why they tasted weird. Anywho she sends bee manager our way and she says no they're all meat but that can't be true judging by the taste. Anywho, she pretty much shrugs and says too bad you don't like it then walks away. For my rolls, I got the Spicy girl and the Teostra. I didn't love either but they were pretty good and very nicely prepared. Lastly, the service was incredibly slow! It wasn't crowded from what we could see so perhaps they had a lot of takeout orders. And they add 18% gratuity to the check even for a party of two. The service was worth 15% which I would have given but the automatic 18% was totally not acceptable. Based on the food and service, it's needless to say I won't be back. read more

The buns were delicious and fluffy but a little heavy on bread and a little light on filling. The ratio wasn't quite right. That being said, the Tiger Roll was possibly the best sushi we'd ever had??? But the actual buns were mediocre. This place has some crazy good sushi and bowls! The decorations are simple and cute, and there was a backyard bar area (I think) where people were going to drink which I really want to check out! The sushi I got was super yummy, very sticky, idk if it's the Mango Tango roll in the picture but it tasted like a PB&J roll with a hint of mango, it was sooooo gooood, and super filling, and I don't normally like raw sushi! The server was really nice and quick to get us whatever we needed, but was a little shy or just quiet, but seemed very sweet. A place dedicated to all things buns is a utopia I'd readily sign myself up to visit any day of the week. Buntopia has a no frills storefront heavily reliant on delivery/takeout but they have a lone table set up out front to eat at. Their menu includes a long list of buns, ramen, and rice rolls catering to pretty much any palate and diet but is especially amenable to vegetarians. In fact there are more vegetarian options than not, including a tasty vegan nugget ramen, veggie gyoza, and several types of salads. The main event though is really any of their bunburgers, which come as a pair and can be a light and inexpensive meal in and of themselves. I ordered the Shrimpatation bunburger which consists of tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, tobiko, greens, peanuts, and a tasty spicy mayo apple vinegar sauce that really tied it all together. I was impressed with the contrast of sweet, salty, and spicy as well as the medley of textures. The crispy tempura batter paired so well with the fluffy bao bun that I was happy there was more than one bun in my order. $8 is a great deal for 2 generously filled buns. My dining companions though the Aloha Slider, which was the grilled chicken bunburger, was one of the best buns they've ever had. I'm glad to see they seem to have a robust delivery operation going to offset the lack of indoor dining here, so I hope to see them surviving the pandemic.
