Soooo... This is supposed to be the best seafood in Riverhead, I disagree. I went to the Lobster Roll and it was way better. They were out of sweet potatoes fries & lobster sliders, bummer. The crab cakes, coconut shrimp were over fried, the fisherman's basket was all over fried we couldn't finish half of it. And the broiled half lobster was ok for 1 1/4 lbs for $25 was a lot. The only saving grace which gave you an extra star was Gabriela our waitress who was a super sweetheart. read more

I ate here a couple of weeks ago and I was really disappointed. I ordered the New England Clam chowder to start and found it very ordinary... quite bland. It lacked the taste of clams and tasted like bargain-brand canned soup. After that, I had the lunch-sized codfish basket, which came with fries and coleslaw. The fries were fine, but the fish tasted like they had cooked too many other things in the same grease. I didn't enjoy it at all. (And note: For some inexplicable reason, they put barbecue sauce in the coleslaw. Why? I don't know, but it's just odd - especially as an accompaniment to SEAFOOD!) Finally, I ordered a "special" beer that was supposed to cost $5, per the restaurant's hand-written board of specials. (When I got the bill, the beer was charged at $6; however, when I pointed out the discrepancy between the bill and their board, the server did adjust it, although she did so without an apology.) I also found the service lackluster. After the food arrived, my server checked on me once and said, "How's the food?" I said, "It's okay." Then she chirped, "I'm glad it's good." I actually never said it was "good." Maybe that's why she never checked on me again? For a lot less money, you could get better-tasting seafood at Long John Silver's that was cooked in much fresher grease (and I don't go to or promote fast food joints). This was not good! Went for lunch and it was really nice! Outdoor seating on a warm summer day was the best. We ordered a 1/2 bucket of mussels and beer-battered cod--both were very fresh. The vanilla mashed sweet potatoes were good too! Friendly staff and excellent food. We'll be back for sure! read more

Lackluster food and service, they looked a little understaffed. Had to ask for silverware after our entrees were served. Were not told about the specials or that there was a board for them. Tables are really to small for four with all the dishes for shells. Had the ne clan chowder, seafood bisque, oysters on the half shell as starters. Oysters were good, briney and tasty, but had bIts of shell in them. Soups ok. Had clam bake, mussels scampi, and seafood medley salad. The oysters on half shelf were fresh, but not outstanding. The broiled lobster was very good. The bouillabaisse fish was a bit funky and rubbery. The steamers were inedible (full of sand and had a consistency of a Goodyear tire.) The bottle of Riesling on the menu was so full of sulfites, it gave me a wicked headache. I ate here last week and I was very disappointed in the food. We ordered what they call Manhattan clam chowder and it was just a bowl of watery tomato soup full of potatoes and sandy clams. It was awful. We also had almond coated flounder. Terrible. Hardly any fish under the breading, which tasted awful. That was accompanied by broccoli that was yellow from age and mashed sweet potatoes flavored with vanilla. Ugh! Who thought that one up? Plus, the sweet potatoes were stringy. When i'm working in the Tanger Outlet Center I often get a communal order and money collection from my coworkers and one of us calls the order in and shoots out there to pick it up. My family and I came across Buoy One on our way home from the mall and boy am I glad we did! We arrived at a hectic time today but service was still excellent. My husband and I took a ride out East for the day. My husband is not a big fish lover but he said he would try it. I had the fried oysters, they were so fabulous I could have ordered another serving. WHAT? No free refills???? The food here wasn't bad: I had a shrimp po' boy sandwich that had a small handful of shrimp accompanied by flavorful cole slaw. Service was okay but nothing special. Overall, while the restaurant options around Riverhead appear to be quite limited, if you're starving and want okay food, this is your place. Really great no-frills seafood restaurant. And I don't even eat seafood! They have a whipped, vanilla sweet potato side dish that is TO DIE FOR. I have, literally, brought friends from NC, MI, Germany and Manhattan to Buoy One, to try their seafood...and the vanilla sweet potato whipped side dish (YUM!). It's always a big hit! Also, their green salads and mixed vegetable side is yummy. They have some killer vegetarian dinner items, which I tried and loved. Drinks are pretty delicious (adult beverages). It's especially nice during warmer weather, you can dine outdoors on their patio. The inside lacks ambiance, but the food makes up for that! They can even accommodate vegetarians and vegans. I knew this place would have some reviews, despite the fact that it is off the beaten path. It used to be a place called Gloria's and I went there with my grandparents when they were still alive. Went last weekend, had an AMAZING bucket of muscles with my mom. We also had the broiled scallops, another crowd pleaser. Do not however order fried calamari, theirs is not very good. The food here is good and very reasonably priced, pretty decent menu selection too. The staff is friendly but you may have to wait especially if you go with a large party. This is not a good place to get seafood. If splurging on good seafood was your idea save your money. Breading is terribly thick on everything, onion rings where over cook and inedible. Tartar sauce was mainly mayonnaise with little to no relish. The service was somewhat decent although there was almost no one there when we arrived. The one decent part was our waitress she was nice. Wonderful, simply prepared seafood. Have it grilled/broiled and healthy or guilty fried pleasures. Ate here twice in recent weeks, coming and going from a 10-day vacation stay on the North Fork and my wife and I agreed this was one of the best dining experiences of the trip--and our dog joined us seated at the edge of the patio. We sat outside and promptly ordered one of the appetizer specials, local Long Island duck spring rolls. They were really delicious! Next, we both got New England clam chowder, which again was really fresh and tasty, a huge portion though! I only ate half or else I wouldn't have been able to eat the rest of the meal. For the main part of lunch, we shared the stuffed combo which came with stuffed flounder, stuffed shrimp, and stuffed clams. Also really fresh and delish! I have passed this shack I will call it for over 12 years as I go home to Southold. I was always like what a run down needs to be painted esablishment. On Saturday after a day of shopping and heading into town this smell captured my senses. It was the smell of good fresh seafood being grilled. Oh I am glad I did let me nose have me make a u turn and head back to this place. I had the tuna blackened and I substituted mashed sweet potato instead of the mashed white ones. I think mashed white potato have not taste or substance. I am glad I did the tuna was awesome and the sweet potato were the perfect creamy mixture. The were almost as good as the ones my great great grannie use to cook for me as a tot. My guest had some seafood platter that was awesome. The flounder and stuffing were a perfect combination. The stuffed shrimp were tasty and well seasoned. The clams which I never eat were tasty with just the right amount of spice. Only thing I wish was better was the garlic bread. It was a bit on the dry side. Also they include no salad or bread with the dinners. I found the price to be well within reason as compared to that other folk. I spent 55usd for a great meal and had a glass of sangria with it. I would say if ever heading out on the north folk or even after a day of shopping stop by this lil seafood shack. read more

Ok food, terrible service!! Definitely not heading back anytime soon. We really enjoyed this place. When we drive by I was a little skeptical but once we got inside it reminded me of a restaurant on the Cape. The food was just flat out good. They had specials and plenty of choices. My husband had shrimp with a blue cheese alfredo sauce that was out of this world!! The alfredo sauce is made to order and everything in the dish had great balance. I took a risk and ordered a margarita and it was amazing. I was expecting it to be really sweat and taste like store bought margarita mix but it was very clean and refreshing. If we are ever in the area again we will be sure to stop by. This place was awesome. Came here two times during a business trip in the area. First time i got the hot pot which included lobster, snow crab legs, and corn. Second time i got the clam bake which had lobster, clams, mussels, shrimp, corn, and baked potato. I enjoyed both and the seafood was delicious! I'm shocked this was rated so high. My wife had the stuffed baked fish and it was barely ok. The stuffing just tasted weird. I had the clam bake. It was aweful. The shrimp was overcooked, the clams we're sandy even after washing them in the juice they provided and the lobster was tough and hard to get out of the shell. It's not my first time eating lobster either. The waitress came over to take our order, drop off the food and give us the check. Honestly our local supermarket in upstate NY has way better seafood including lobster. I feel sorry for the locals. read more

So, this is a long in coming and necessary review of a wonderful place! I am a long time customer of the fresh fish counter at the Riverhead Bouy one location. They have always been fantastic, but this year in particular, has been awesome. I fled the city over 10 weeks ago to our summer home, where I have been practicing telemedicine. Alicia, the Bouy One manager, is one of only 2 people I have seen in months. She has been working often 7 days a week and yet always has a smile on her face and serves up wonderful fresh fish. Over the past several weeks, they have been the only game open in town and have managed heavy business with a skeleton crew. I am sad to see some abusive, ungrateful customers. I do not understand it. They are trying so hard to get all orders met while no one else has tried to remain open. Other fishmongers open are allowing 1 person in at a time and are out of everything! I'm thrilled Bouy One continues to serve us throughout the Covid 19 pandemic. Congrats and thank you! read more
