Came here to 1). Support a local business 2) they are open late 3) we want quick food. Finding the business off Yelp directions was easy. Ordering was easy. At night it seemed alittle sketch but we made out just fine. A couple hookers and dboys but it's late night downtown...so I guess it's chill as long as you stay away from me. Food is not as quick as a fast food place but that's fine. We wanted to wait for local flavor since LA had great food! Service was passing, not great..... wanted to try out their special chipotle orange sauce but he didn't want to give me a free sample, he just wanted me to buy a $6 dollar bottle....can't buy it without test it. Second strike, do you take American Express? No we don't. Yet their was a big old sign saying that you do....I would have paid more just take my card please... They service us with a smile. So that was a major plus. The fries were alittle mushy.... the shrimp was fried and cooked well. The burgers were good. Had mayo on my BBQ one and the deluxe cheeseburger was pretty good. Overal I would DoorDash food, skip the fries and only come here in a large group of +4 large males at night. I loved how old the business was, how different the burgers were, and how food Area was outside. I didn't like the area and the answers I was getting from the cashier but maybe I'm the one in the wrong. I would give it 2.5 stars but I can't. But I don't think I'll be back either..... read more

FYI minimum credit card charge is $7, a cheese burger, fries, and a drink comes to $7.08 Fries are really greasy, which I personally don't like. Burgers are pretty decent, better than Mc Donald's at a similar price, worse than In-n-out and slightly cheaper. Right on trip major roads and as clean as you'd expect. A small stand on the corner of the block. It has that old school feel to it. The burgers are delicious!! Fries are fresh made and the price is insane! I got the deluxe with some chilli cheddar fries. Only thing I don't like about this place is that it's kinda ghetto. If you come and try this place out, get your food to go. We decided to eat at one of the tables and we got approached a few times. Sad,The price of the food went up $$$ a bag of burger is now $9.99 and the quality of the food went down. They changed the bread for their buns the original buns were awesome made the burgers tasty. The new buns are way too thick and overpower the taste of the burger. Same with the bbq steak sandwiches they went from having a great French roll to a standard bread cut in half, same with their french fries used to be nice and greasy now they're not,no longer a great place to eat at one or longer support that business. I don't know how many times I've driven past the Burger Bar when I'm in traffic going downtown in the morning or on the way back home. I actually have never tried anything aside from their bag of burgers and tacos which I mean, if you're looking for quantity vs quality, then this is your place!!! This is NOT the place for gourmet quality loaded burgers. Quantity and convenience are the key words here. For their fried beef tacos it has lettuce and cheese, 5 of them for $10.99. Just imagine jack and the box's 2 for 1 taco's! These are basically the same thing. As for their bag of burgers its 5 burgers with just mayo and relish for $6.99. Decent for the price, but in my opinion, a McChicken would probably be a lot better and cheaper. Still very convenient! FRIES. I don't know why but their fries are awesome to me and I just keep going back for them. They are on the thinner side and so they get soggy very quickly and I'm just a soggy fry type of gal, so these are a winner in my book! read more

I don't know who would go to this place. You get what you pay for. I'm all for cheap food. This place was 100% fail and gross. Fries weren't cooked. Soaked in grease and raw. If a burger joint can't figure out how to fry potatoes, this should be a huge red flag. Burgers were so gross I can't even. Relish is good. Mayo is good. The execution was unreal for anyone who isn't high as shit. Stale buns. Meat is probably the lowest quality you can buy. It reminds me of cookout in the south but way grosser. There. I'm giving this place 3.5stars. I was meeting up with some buddies and brought up the idea to eat here. The hamburgers are 1.00 and cheeseburgers 1.07. Fries 1.50/2.50 everything else, is a blur. So I order 3 cheeseburgers and large fries for me and my friend (who "isnt" that hungry). The bag felt pretty heavy, as if they have me 50 packets of ketchup or something along with my food, and to my surprise, the fries was weighing it down. The fries were in a bag almost as big as as my head!! like the entire bag itself, and nearly transparent. The fries remind me of the thin cut ones from MCd's but they also spiraled like curly fries. We were blessing the fries with salt like people at a wedding throwing rice. The hamburgers are like MCd's regular hamburgers with a touch of bbq sauce or something, and tasted a bit sweet. Been coming here since I was little. This place is health wise, so bad for you. It hurts so good though!!!! They have bomb ass burgers. I usually get the steak burgers. I'll be honest, I don't come here often anymore as it's super "unhealthy" but this is a guilty pleasure. Their steak burgers with bbq sauce mixed with mayonnaise is amazing. Not the best burger ever, but really hit the spot when you want something to satisfy a craving for slap-stick burgers. I went with the steak burger since most reviews recommended it. I have no idea why that phrase goes with these burgers, other than to tell you they fry up the burger, slap it into the bun and slather it with sauce. It didn't have any other topping, but they tell you what comes on each item so not a problem. It was a large patty on a rectangular bun so it was all bread on the outer portion until you get to the actual burger. The amount of BBQ sauce/mayo was a bit excessive, but I'd rather that be what I get instead of a skimpy portion leaving it dry. I used the extra bread ends to wipe some of the sauce off and tossed it. The rest was consumed happily with no regrets. 3.5 stars I also wanted to try a munchie item that was mentioned in reviews, which was the taco. It reminded me of a freshly made version of the tacos from Jack in the Box, but had no real flavor. If the taco had hot sauce on it, I would have rated it higher. 2.5 stars The other burger had all the usual stuff and was pretty good. I think 3.5 stars is fair. The burger was pretty OK - light on meat (and I even 'upgraded' to the 1/4 pound, I can't imagine how tiny the regular burger must be), bacon was pretty good - but the fries were really unimaginative filler calories. Amazingly good burgers at a very cheap price! This has been in my family for generations and will forever be a staple in San Jose and in the heart of the city! However this location is always a great place to visit whenenver in San Jose. About what you'd expect at this price range. The cheapest burgers are basically sausage patties on relatively over-sized buns, but the choice of toppings still makes this work somehow.
