Saw an ad on social media for Burger Boss offering a free burger via the app, so I decided to give this place a try. I did the build your own burger with beef, wheat bun, veggies, and ketchup/garlic herb mayo. Cheese was an extra dollar, but cheese is essential! The burger itself was quite yummy, especially with all the fixings. The concept of serving grassfed beef with more natural ingredients makes this place stand out, but I'm not sure it's worth the higher price tag. Overall, it was nice to try out the burger almost for free, but it would be hard to justify paying full price for this burger since taste-wise, it didn't stand out compared to other burger places. Of note, when I ordered in the app for a specific time, the burger was all ready for me at the pick up station, so I didn't have to wait. Great service. read more

Very clean! Always a great start. You can order using a huge touch screen which is interesting because it actually lets you see the burger and fries with the ingredients selected. (Hey Yelp! Stop saying "This review is shorter than most" and give me a chance to finish...not the way to treat your Yelpers.) The drink menu seems a bit limited...no shakes...only one type of iced tea. First impression was cool because the place is wide open, plenty of seating with 2 or 3 nice sized TV screens. I did start by using their touchscreen to order, then realized I was the only customer in the joint (they just opened 10 minutes prior) so I went old school and placed my order with a human. I didn't catch his name, but he was friendly with a nice smile. I ordered the OG Boss and added avocado, with a side of fries n a natural iced tea. STICKER SHOCK at $20.20 for just me!! It hurt my wallet, but my heart thanks me! The patty was tasty and although I asked for ketchup, mayo, mustard, the amount that was squirted on the bun was minimal which made the second half of the burger a bit dry. French fries were fresh, yummy and delicious, not a speck of oil or grease anywhere...big bonus! I know I could've gone up and asked for more condiments, but I had just finished playing 2 hours in the heat and was exhausted. Ordered via Yelp thru Doordash (lame that they don't have their own online system). I wanted my food for a specific time to pick up but after checkout Yelp said it was going to take an additional 20 minutes. Really?! 1 burger, one order of fries and a kids meal needed 40+ minutes? -__- This was not true because when I walked in to pick up my food, it was completely empty and my food had been sitting at the counter for who knows how long. Which means my food was cold and I was never notified my food was ready. So what good is the time option when your food still won't be fresh? I get home and open up the food and they put ranch dressing on my burger buns and just left it on there! I asked for no sauce on my burger at all. It wasn't even busy so they could have easily given me new buns. That was lazy and tacky. To make things worse, my sweet potato fries were terrible! So bland and dry! My goodness! I've never had such bad fries before. I guess they want people to add a bunch of toppings to mask the tasteless flavor. That was a waste of $4! I absolutely loved the Burger Boss! It's such a great concept! I found this place on Yelp and I love that they use grass fed beef. My only question is if it is also pastured raised??? Besides the point. I liked how you customize your own burger. My boyfriend and I ended up splitting one and a fry. He wasn't a fan of me adding avocado since it's a dollar or so extra. This location is nice and convenient to me so score! I stopped in today and got the beef burger as a salad and sweet potato fries. The worker who took my order needed some spunk. I also had a coupon which meant I should have been only paying for the sweet potato fries which he said was 4.85. However, when I looked at my receipt, I was charged 15.09. Hmm... So I went back and asked so he refunded me 9.5 which still is not 4.85. I'm like umm, you didn't do this right. He's like ohh I didn't do the tax but I can give it to you if you want. Sorry, this was a big NOPE for us. I love the idea of fresh/high quality ingredients, but...... The fries arrived first. They looked like fresh cut potatoes, but they were the greasiest fries I've ever seen. They had a firm, almost chewy texture to them. The oil had a strange taste too, as if it needed to be changed long ago. I still have the taste of that nasty oil in my mouth. When the burgers arrived, they looked good. I ordered a black bean patty. It was unlike any vegetarian/vegan patty I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure they slapped refried black beans on the grill and let them form a crust, then flipped it. As soon as I picked my "burger" up, beans began dripping from all edges. It tasted good, but I wouldn't call it a burger. It was more of a bean and cheese sandwich. Our kids got double beef patties, because the cashier was a good up-seller. Both TEENAGED BOYS only ate half their burgers. One son is allergic to wheat, so he was happy to have a real gluten free bun. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of his burger. More grease dripped out of those burgers than I've ever seen before in my life. My husband and I ate our bean and cheese sandwiches. We left behind two half eaten double burgers and 1 1/2 baskets of fries. I hate wasting food and wasting money and that was a big waste of both. Im not the biggest fan of burgers, because I cant seem to find one that really DOES it for me... that is just over the top amazing. Burger Boss was pretty good though! There is a cashier at the register that will take your order, or you can use the self service screens on the wall in the area where you would otherwise wait in line. I used the self service screens. You pick your bread, (or lettuce wrap), protein, and toppings. I chose the turkey patty and it actually had really good flavor. I am weird with meat, so I dont always like turkey patties. I got swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, onion and lettuce on my burger. It was juicy and delicious. There are a lot of good toppings to choose from, and everything was very fresh. This is another, what I call, "modern" place that wasnt built with noise level in mind. At all. The noise level is very high... even if they place is not packed. It makes it hard to talk to your friends and can be a bit overwhelming. The center this is in is still growing, and things are still opening - but its a nice place! This was my 2nd visit to this location of Burger Boss. My 1st time, my wife and I used the touch screens to customize our order, and it ended up taking forever. It's way easier to just talk to the cashier up front. LOCATION: A+ Burger Boss is located in the Tustin Legacy plaza off Tustin Ranch & Kensington Park Dr. Ample parking (although, closer you are to the entrance, the less parking spots are available -- there's other shops, so if you want front row parking, get there early). SERVICE: A+ Upon walking in, the cashier (didn't catch his name) was super friendly and helpful. I asked him about the process again, and he walked me through it all. You build your own burger -- how ever you want, but keep an eye on the extras! There are limits to what you can add for free before they charge you! When my order was ready, the server was super cheery, and friendly -- really love that! Everyone was happy and helpful all around. That goes a long way! No one likes a grumpy server... or grump person in general! FOOD: B On this visit, I ordered a simple burger to go (not too into super customizing a burger; sometimes bread, meat, cheese with a little bit of ketchup, mustard goes a long way IMO). I completed my meal with fries & a drink. I ordered everything to go, and it came organized in a plastic container (open face), and fries were packed separately. When I went back to the office, the fries were a bit ... stale, I guess is the word. It didn't have that crunch, but they were legit homemade fries, so I still enjoyed them. Maybe if I didn't get my order to go, it would have more freshness to it. The burger itself was good -- not great, but better than what I can make, for sure! Bun was super fluffy (got the normal kaiser bun). Meat was medium (cooked w/ pink in the middle). Recently opened, this Burger Boss has the DIY ordering Kiosks or you can just order at the cashier. There is a TV inside, 2 bathrooms, Unsweetened Ice Tea machine, and a Coke self serve. The burgers are customized by yourself, with the addition of free or premium toppings and sauces. I do have to tell you get the herb mayo that is made in house. It is the best condiment here and it reminds me of garlic aioli. I even eat it with the fries. Oh speaking of which, I honestly think the fries are cooked better than Islands here. For someone like me who like skin on fries, they are hard to find. To find some place better than Islands Restaurant, that speaks volume. Even the sweet potato fries were crispy as well without having a lot of grease feel. For the burger, I get the 2/3 lb. which is 2 patties. For the egg, they cook it over medium or over hard here. Yes, you will still get the yolk but I personally like it over easy. I do feel the burgers are really plain if you are eating it by itself. I would only recommend eating it plain if you are a purist, otherwise, make sure you add sauces and toppings to really get that full burger, mouth experience. There's a outside area here to sit. We were helped by Atria, one of their cashiers. She was very nice, respectful, and gave great recommendations on the menu. Not only did she help us order, she was always checking in on us. Great experience right there already. I created a double beef patty with white kaiser bread, avocado, pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms with lettuce, honey dijon and ketchup. It was deliciousss, the meat was season well and not to mention the serving size was huge! I ordered a side of fries and they came out fresh, very crispy and golden. Next time I want to boss up my own fries haha! The whole idea was pretty cool, there were plenty of options to choose to make on your burger, a lot of sauces you can choose from. Arrived 30 mins before closing and came into an empty restaurant. Never heard of this place so immediately thought place was going to go out of business. The worker had to tell me it's all custom burgers. I chose a basic single stack with brioche, cheddar, pickles, Mayo, ketchup, thousand island and grilled onions. Sheeeet burger was pretty damn fire. Nothing crazy, just a simple good quality, good tasting burger for about $15 which included fries and drink. That's about $3 more than McDonald's, I'd go back here any day over Micky Ds. Fries were ayyt, some home style I think fresh cut potatoes which is borderline stale but still crispy. Mainly cause by the time I'm done going through their order flow either through the digital kiosk or at the cash registers, I'm so frustrated with how long it takes to order a damn burger and fries. It took 5 of us from work today about 10 minutes to order from their digital kiosk. If you put combo meals so some of us can order quickly, it would make the experience much better. That way I can order a combo meal and add or subtract things I want. Instead I've gotta build a burger from scratch with 30 variations. Really frustrating!!! Welcome to Burger Boss, home of the grass fed burger, can I take your order? -- No. That's not really how they take your order, but that's all I could think of as sat at my chair in my office, thinking about how I wanted a burger for lunch. Inside is very modern; stainless steel, with the offsetting green for grass is a great look (natural with steel), very clean, modern looking. So modern, that you can order your meal on the Touch-Screen TV's to the left, which is outlined pretty well. My advice is to go to the cashier to order if it's your first time, so they can break it down. First off, the BURGER IS DELICIOUS. Grass fed isn't a joke! The beef just tastes better. With all my add ins, (2/3lb burger, fresh, and grilled onions, jalapenos, olives, american cheese, mayo, ketchup) + Drink and Fries came out to ~$14. I love that they have all those toppings, plus premium toppings for a cost, available. Came out medium-medium well (no choice on that I think), but like I said, the quality of meat is amazing. That burger was so flavorful. My fries were a bit off, but that's because they are real, fresh cut fries. Think In-n-out, but bigger spuds. So sometimes texture won't be perfect, but they weren't bad tasting at all. I wonder if they offer a well-done option. That would be a +. Otherwise most of my fries had a very potatoe-y texture (if that even makes sense). Lastly, what threw me off, was the Fountain Sodas. All the Coke Options had an off taste about them. The Coke, Coke Zero, and Coke Life, had a weird aftertaste. I got the Mr Pibb after, and it tasted fine, however on the refill, it had that weird taste again. I'm not sure if it's the ratio, the syrup, or the mixing source. I hope that gets fixed, because a bad drink should not deter you from a bomb-ass burger. All in all, the experience, the food, and the workers (super nice people!) were all great. 3.5 stars really, but No half stars on yelp, and not exactly deserving of 4 yet. We usually love Burger Boss but today we had a bad experience at this location. We were driving and tried multiple times to call the order in ahead of time, but no one answered the phone. Once we arrived we learned that there was only one worker doing everything. We waited over thirty minutes for the food. :( The drink selection is minimal and it didn't help that they were out of lemon berry açaí. I just so happened to stumble upon Burger Boss as I was visiting Hoag in the same plaza. I initially intended to bookmark and come back with the fam, but after my morning - mama deserved some peace and quiet with a good burger. And that's exactly what I got. Off the bat I was intrigued by the shop - grass fed patties. Sold. They taste ten times better than regular patties, fight me. Ordering from Burger Boss is a futuristic experience on its own (if you choose to go that route). There are two large touch screens where you can custom build and order your burger or bowl (what?) or you can go the "old fashioned route" and order at the counter. I enjoyed the touch screen option that allowed for me to see all of the options and customize to a tee exactly what I wanted. Mayo on both buns? Sure. Scroll through and choose from unique sauces? You got it. You choose the buns (no bun, lettuce peeps - they got you), cheeses (all the flavors) and sauces (from traditional dijon to siracha and teriyaki). They even have two types of fries to choose from. Once you have narrowed down your perfect burger, review and pay and then pick up your receipt and cups from the counter. As I previously stated, the patty was so freaking delicious. Unfortunately I am not the most adventurous person when it comes to my burgers. I like the classics and keep it simple. But I loved the bun, it was fluffy and not too bready and didn't get soggy from the meat juices. My only criticism is that the amount of lettuce they put on my burger was laughable - it's ok easy remedy - just ask for heavy lettuce. We just needed a quick lunch while running errands and stopped here. It was roughly 3pm and was completely empty. My bf had been here before and said it was good. Although the "grass-fed" advertisements would suggest ordering a beef patty, we opted for the turkey patties. We are huge fans of turkey patties so thought we'd try it here. My bf got the regular Turkey burger and added jalapenos. I made my own and we got his daughter a kids cheeseburger. (not pictured) I would say the turkey burgers were decent. Tasted fresh but comparable to something you can easily make at home. The grilled jalapenos were not very grilled. The fries were nice and hot and I would say was the best thing. Well, we stopped by here randomly and I must say....... I am soooo Happy I did! This was the best burger I've had in awhile! I kinda over did it with the double patty turkey but I don't feel "blahhh" like normal double burgers can have you.
