Uh oh, so close to Olive burger! Neighborhood rivals...game on!! Went on a recent Monday (which judging by the mess in the place, was very busy for lunch) to try Burger Island's Avocado burger....the size, sheesh, the buns must be made in same place hubcaps are made...enormous! Ordered a half order of sweet potato fries (also very good) which came out surprisingly large for a half order, (at that point, didn't care...ready to dig in). Only nit I have with BI is that almost every table was not wiped down very well...diners typically bus their own table, but burger meals leave an unimistakeable sheen on a table...I saw two other patrons wipe down tables. Restaurant well past rush (this was around 2 p.m.) and at least one staff member available to tidy up...oh well. In addition, napkins, french fry tidbits and various other burger cast-offs littered the floor. Alas, the food was redemption and I look forward to my next card punch. read more

I really like Burger Island for their delicious food and they have a $6.75 lunch special for a 1/2 cheeseburger, fries, and a soda that's more delicious and filling than something you'd get from say McDonald's or Wendy's. This place had been on my list a looooong time. If Joe and Deno tell me to try a burger joint, I listen. The problem is that I could never find the place. The sign actually says Burger Island.....if you're lucky enough to spot the tiny sign, which is blocked by a Taco Bell adjacent to the non-descript strip mall. I finally found Burger Island after two failed treks to Richardson. Now that I know the gut-busting high-value goodness that awaits me, I will make the trip again.....maybe after several trips to the gym to anticipate the calories. The burger is not the best I've had (see Kenny's) but it is a supreme contender in the category of "Chow Down" food. These half-pounders rival the frisbee in circumference and come with surprisingly strong extras. Heck that Jungle Burger that Deno mentions could feel a famished collection of 16 year old linebackers with no problem. The hickory burger I had contained sauce cheese and grilled onions. The combo with fries and drink weighed in at 7 bucks. What a deal! Hungry now? Get in the car head to Custer and Arapaho, look for the Taco Bell and drive to the back. Take out a magnifying glass and point it to the tiny sign. You have found it ....Burger Island! Now I need to find an immunity idol because I never wanted to be voted off of that island. read more

This was my first time here and when I stop again, I may update. The menu was pretty exciting. Lots of options, and many out of the ordinary, which I appreciate. Beef salads, fried clams, funnel cake fries (they were awesome!) and various fried poppers of different types as well as mozzarella sticks. Also had cheesesteaks, sandwhiches, and anything else you could crave. The food was pretty good. Like I said, the funnell cake fries were heavenly, and my friend enjoyed his tater tots and his burger on Texas Toast. I went with the blue cheese, bacon, and onion burger. They went heavy on the toppings, which is always nice, although I wish the blue cheese had been stronger. The burger itself was pretty good, however a little overdone for my taste. I prefer my burgers juicy, but that is just personal preference. Previous reviewers mention how dirty this place is, but this is not the experience I had. Tables and floors were clean and as soon as I got up, the staff was right behind me cleaning my area for the next patrons. It's always nice when the establishment reads reviews and acts accordingly. I'm always rooting for the businesses, even those in which I don't leave the best reviews. And the price? Very reasonable, which is something kind of hard to find around this area nowadays. I have to say, this is my favorite location. The wife & I try to make a special trip at least once a month to partake in the best damn burger in Dallas: THE JUNGLE BURGER This location is in the heart of nerdy Richardson. The regulars seem like they are taking a break from their model train weekend build-outs to meet up and figure out if their IT jobs circa 1984 are still in force. The almighty Jungle Burger. Huge. Bacon, Jalepenos, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and more and more love from the kitchen. Mix in some Hickory sauce and you've found your new BFF. We usually opt for the Texas Toothpicks as a side to share... lots of fried onions and jalepenos with ranch dressing. Love the place and the food. True neighborhood burger joint. While Dallas might have a shortage of good football teams (see the Cowboys 1-5 record) or of basketball teams that can deliver in the clutch (see Mavericks 3 first round exits in the last 6 years), one thing is certain - there is absolutely no shortage of quality burger joints. Take Burger Island for example. Needing a rebound after a let down at Five Guys, my coworker and fellow Yelper Brittany C. recommended we hit up Burger Island for lunch. Even though it's tucked away in a kinda ghetto strip mall, an unlikely place for a burger indeed, this place was hoppin' during their Tuesday lunch special ($4.99 for a 1/2 lb cheeseburger, fries and a drink - you can't beat that with a bat!). It took a while for our burgers to come out, but when they finally did it was well worth the wait. The burger was juicy and flavorful but not greasy, the cheese was perfectly melted over the patty, the bacon was mostly meat (yes, I was sneaky and added bacon for 75 cents instead of getting the bacon burger which was $4.75 by itself), and the bun was moist with a good meat to bun ratio. I still can't get over how big this burger was. The fries were cooked just the way I like 'em, but they weren't quite as flavorful or memorable as some of the other fries I've eaten. All in all, Burger Island is a great alternative to some of the other burger joints in town and I'm sure it will become a regular in my work lunch rotation, especially on Tuesdays. Not quite a challenger to some of the stars of the Dallas burger scene, but definitely a good runner up. read more

One day a few years ago I was working in Richardson and have an insatiable craving for a burger. The usual fast food joints came to mind but that wasn't going to cut it. I needed something new, something different. After a simple google search for "Best Burger in Richardson," I came across Burger Island. That was 4 years ago and today, Burger Island is still my favorite burger joint HANDS DOWN. There is nothing about their burgers I can complain about. That said, the various locations are very inconsistent. I have tried the locations at Belt Line and 35 and at Preston and Belt Line. I continue to return to the Richardson location. Not only are their burgers regularly consistent, but they offer a wider variety of burger options. Two of which are a staple for me every time I order: Pepper Jack Cheese and A1 sauce. The fries are the seasoned steak cut variety. YUM! I only wish they gave me a few more when I order a burger and fry meal. Eat here and you won't regret it. read more

Show up hungry The burgers are 1/2 pounders!!! My avocado burger (hold the lettuce) was D.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. My other half had his plain and dry, described it as "very good". okay so i read Deno F's and Joseph's review and something in me wanted to try it. It aint that far from work so it was perfect. I got my manager "the lover of food" to try it with meh. I went. I saw. I ate. I was conquered. Burger Island has excellent food and service. This is a family business that really knows how to cook up great burgers. This place is packed for lunch, but dinner isn't usually too crowded. The location is practically a hole in the wall and doesn't look like much. They lose points for the terrible KISS-FM type music that plays all day. I think this type of place would benefit from a Pandora account so they can switch between classic rock, pop, oldies, etc. The burgers are huge and amazing. The french fries are as tasty as they come. If you are new and want something simple, the bacon cheeseburger is excellent! I'd love to see this place move into a better location and turn on better music. The staff is very nice and work real hard. 5 stars! EDIT: This place changed ownership a year or two ago. I'd heard about this place and finally gave in. I was expecting to be whelmed. I was underwhelmed. Ambience: Small dive place; I like that kind of thing. What I didn't like was ALL THE FREAKING NOISE. Yes, there were shrieking children (usually the main offenders in restaurants) but here the adults out-shouted the rug rats. And the grill cook CLANG CLANG CLANGed his spatula on the grill even louder than the adults. There were several loud "dropping stuff" crashes. My ears actually hurt. It was so loud the Dear Wife and I opted to sit outside even though it was chilly. The noise from inside the joint was louder than the traffic on Arapaho. Clientele: Loud people. Food: Huge, too-huge, tasteless burgers. Fries with green (!) spice mix on them. Hamburgers delivered to the table at 25mins; fries followed at 27mins. Drink: I had water. It was fine. Wife had a soda, also fine. Staff: Nice enough and pleasant except for the spatula-wielding clanger fellow. Stop that! wifi: not checked. bathroom: no problems. Value: medium-low. The burgers are big but not good. I prefer Del's or Keller's. Neighborhood sketch factor: looks dumpy but is actually ok. Went for the first time today. Burgers are BIG, a 1/2 lb patty. Fries seem to be fresh cut, but chili on the chili-cheese fries is fairly mundane. Ketchup in squeeze bottles is a little runny. It's a small place, not very fancy. The food is really surprising. I had a friend order burgers from here when we were working. I didn't believe it when he brought me a regular towell instead of a napkin--and I'm not talking a hand towell either. I orderd theJungle Burger with everything except mushrooms (it literally had about 10 toppings on it.) The burger took up the whole styrofoam dinner container. It was huge and had EVERYTHING you can imagine on it. It wasn't long before I was elbow deep in chili and toppings. The meat was just the right size to hold its own against the amount of toppings. I don't really lean towards the super thick burgers, so this was right up my ally. It didn't get lost and had a nice flavor. They also have a great chicken sandwich and if you're avoiding grease, they do have sandwiches. I've read other reviews that say the fried are really good too...but the burger is so big I've never made it that far. For the record...I did need the big towell. This place is a keeper. read more

Island Burger? I thought this place was Burger Island? Anywho, the burgers here are kick ass! I'd estimate that most of their 1/2 burgers are about 5" in diameter, a big handful of a burger. Today, I got the Mushroom Cheeseburger. It had your normal burger fillers and sauteed mushrooms and provolone cheese. Mmmm, so gooooood! The burgers here are so filling that you may not have enough room to finish your fries, tots, onion rings, or whichever side you order. They have something called the Texas Toothpicks, which are fried thin strips of jalepenos and onions. They come with ranch dipping sauce. These babies are crunchy delicious! read more

First started coming here because it was my former boss's favorite burger place. And even though Dallas is filled with great burger places, this one sticks out. Their burgers are a little greasy, but the meat is delicious which means whatever type of burger you want there is an awesome foundation to build from. They also have some turkey and chicken burgers as well, but I've never had them before. It's a pretty small hole in the wall place across the parking lot from Taco Bell, there isn't a whole lot of room, but this place is usually never crowded. read more

Terrific little burger place with a pleasant environment. We stopped in to use a Groupon and were happily surprised. The prices are very reasonable (even at full price) and the burgers are quite large. They are correctly positioned in between the fast food burger market and the high end gourmet burger market. They have several varieties of burgers with mouth watering photos of each one on the wall. One of the nice features of this place is the fact that they have a few other offerings besides burgers, in case someone in your party wants a philly or another similar sandwich. We ordered a basket of onion rings and some fries. Both were excellent. The onion rings are cooked in a thicker batter than you usually see. My wife remarked they almost tasted like they were cooked inside a donut. ( not sure I would go quite that far, but I got what she meant). Service was genuine and pretty quick. Great menu, decent food and in my opinion enough grease and grime all over the filthy tables to make me want to go somewhere else. How hard would it be to mop the floor once a year and actually wipe the tables off after each patron leaves ? Not hard at all, virtually every other restaurant on earth does it. In my opinion, this level of greasy filth only comes from apathy. If they don't care how filthy it is in the dining room I can only imagine how the cooking area is. Tried it after seeing a promo on groupon. Husband got the double jungle burger & he loved it. I got the grilled chicken sandwich & seasoned fries. Fries (and ranch!) are great.... The grilled chicken was tasty (almost like chick fil-a) but very thin so I would probably try something different next time. All in all, the food was great. The service and staff were both very nice. We have been waiting for our food for 30 minutes, after standing for 15 minutes waiting to order with no one in line in front of us. And while we are waiting, we have seen 2 people who ordered after us get there food and leave. This place for sure does not deserve any thing above one star. The shopping strip is sort of run down and older, but the inside of restaurant is filthy. The tables are gross and the floors clearly haven't been mopped in weeks. They advertise fresh cut potatoes in a big board in the restaurant, yet I saw a bag of frozen cut French frys in the freezer. This is the first and last time I'm coming here. I ordered the big island burger, and it is the most boring bland burger iv ever had. I also ordered chilly cheese frys and the cheese wasn't even melted. Decided to try this place out based on Mr Gs recommendation. I tried the guacamole burger and added jalapeños- an extra $.95 but well worth it- they were grilled and spicy! The burger itself was so flavorful! Not greasy, nicely toasted bun, quite a nice dinner. We shared an order of sweet potato fries, which came our first and were crinkle cut- so tasty! Next time I'm craving a good, big burger, we'll be stopping here. read more
