Black dog was tucked away beside the Empire Tavern. Look for the wooden sign with the paw print. Our trio had the Beef Smash Burger, the Brisket burger and the Chicken Sandwich. You can add fries and a beer for $11NZD. There was only one beer available (a hazy IPA which was *mwah* so good!) the fries were more of a Dutch cut than shoestring, but they were also very very good! The pickle chips were sweet pickles; also tasty. It's a small place, with three tables and a long counter. There is an interior connection to the tavern next door. Service was great. There seemed to be two people working this lunch. Front of house takes orders, pours beers and grills the burgers, and operates the fryer. Back of house does the dishes and restocks. Efficient and delicious. If time allows or if we ever come back, I'll be back.

The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.

Coming to New Zealand, I didn't anticipate on having a burger at all, but I was so hungry and didn't know my way around Newmarket, I think coming here was actually fate. I cannot tell you how fantastic the Lamb Burger was--the meat was so tender, the burger literally melted in my mouth. I'm not much of a beetroot eater (and I'm told this is a common topping in Australian and New Zealand burgers), but it was different in a good way. The bun was also really good, so no complains about the burger at all. We also got the Potato Skins with Truffle Aioli--amaaazing! They were hot and fresh when it came to our table and the chunky portions were more than generous. It's such a shame I'm almost 9,000 miles away because I'm craving a meal from this place at this very moment. The staff were a fun bunch, especially our waiter, Liam, who was full of laughs. Great place away to eat from the shopping madness on Broadway--Osborne Lane is a super cute and nice place to hang out.

The burgers aren't huge but the sides are so good that this works in your favour. The potato skins are a must as is the charred broccoli, which promises to convert any leafy green skeptic. Drinks-wise I've always gone for their house-made sodas but on my last visit I did sneak a sip of my brothers Lewis Road Milkshakes - seriously good! A final word of warning - Burger Burger is super popular so be prepared to wait or have a drink else where first!

I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

Living in Auckland does have its perks and one of them is quality fast food joints like Hell Pizza and Burger Fuel. We come here regularly and are never disappointed. I get the third pounder with cheese - less aioli of course. It's a big ass burger but really fills you up. They put just the right amount of gherkins and dijon mustard to make it just right. My wife gets the vegetarian beetnik burger which is also very good. The thick cut chips are nice but often you do need much chips after a third pound burger. I sometimes get a milkshake but lately I have been getting the glass bottle of Coke from the fridge - there's something about coke from a glass bottle, it just tastes much better. The service is friendly and your order normally arrives within about ten minutes. Like I've said I can't complain about Burger Fuel and will continue to come here. read more

Not sure i'll come here that often, burgers these days have a lot to go by and The Flaming Onion needs to step up to the mark.

Have eaten here twice and I am amazed at how flavorful and thin the crispy coating is on the chicken. You really don't need a dipping sauce because the chicken is already seasoned well and the oil is clean and the chicken and fries have very little residual oil left. This shop would be serious competition in the US. Jolly good lads!
