This is our goto burger place! We compare all burgers to Burgerworx. Minime loves them- she is always asking to go here when we are in Asheville, I am praying we get one in Greenville!!! (hint, hint) We go very basic here with our burgers (cheese, lettuce, onions and mayo) (we are picky, lol), but they have a fun little menu and a create your own. The fries are ahhhhhmazing. Definitely in my tp 5 fry places of all time and that says a lot, Fries are my fave food. I eat them first and always order them! If you want a great burger, go here!!! We enjoyed lunch outside at Burgerworx today! Good atmosphere and very good service. Our burgers were prepared really well ... every one of our hand pattied burgers were made exactly to order. We ordered cheese fries and regular fries and honestly one small order is enough for 4 people! The chocolate chip cookie was also delicious!! Our one and only suggestion is a higher quality bun. Used to loooooove this place. We'd go often to the Hendersonville Rd location and always ordered the black bean burger and fries - and sometimes the shake. Their bean burger was our favorite we'd had anywhere: Boston, California, RTP... you name it. It was big, thick and fried to perfection. We just went for the first time since covid and the review above reflects what we thought of the new menu/veggie burger. Solid 4, I'd say. It pains me to have lost Cats and Dawgs, so I''m glad to see there's a good old comfort food establishment taking its spot on the east side of the Grove Arcade. They had a quiet opening, which I think was the smartest thing they could have done, since overpublicity really hurt a couple of other places around here recently when they got overwhelmed on their opening days. The menu reminds me of a place out west called Which Wich. You walk in, grab a card, and build your own burger. You pick the meat, bread, all the toppings (some free, some "super"), and then hand it to the cashier. Tons of great choices for burger toppings, giving you limitless possibilities. You can get anything from pimento cheese to liverwurst to a fried egg. Some of the prices for the toppings seemed a little high ($1 for an egg or pimento cheese). Quality wise, it was great, and the service was very friendly. The burger was a little messy to eat, but I imagine that's a result of whatever you get on it. I do wish that the fries could be ordered in a smaller size. A "small" is $2.39 and easily enough for two people to split. For the price, it's a good portion, but if I went alone, I wouldn't get fries because I don't want to drop $2.39 on an order of fries that I probably won't finish. They'll be getting beer soon, probably just in cans I'm told. I was also told that acquiring beer may result in later hours during the week (They currently close at 21:00 on weekdays). Overall, definitely a welcome new place downtown. If you just want your burger with the old standards, you can walk out of there for under $5, which I don't need to tell you is a rarity around here. read more

I used to really love the restaurant. You could grab a burger and get creative with it. You could get a variety of sides. No more. Went to the restaurant yesterday for the first time in a long time and they completely changed everything. They simplified their menu and no longer offer the variety that was offered before. One of the sides that I had enjoyed in the past were onion rings. No more. For me, they took the joy out of wanting to go there. There are other burger places in town where I can get what I want and still get creative. Not here. It was busy when I was there, around the lunch hour, so good for them. Ate at Burgerworx before attending an Asheville Tourists baseball game. The staff was courteous and greeted us with a smile. They even gave us change for a dollar to put in the parking meter. The burgers are made to order and delicious. The fries are dumped in a bag and way more than you can eat. My son added egg and bacon to his burger and loved it. With friendly staff, great food, and all at an affordable price, we will definitely recommend to others and return the next time we are in Asheville. read more

Burgers were above average. My strawberry malt was amazing. The guy behind the counter hesitated after I ordered a strawberry malt. He said he didn't think strawberry and malt went together. I've never had anyone question my food choices at a restaurant, much less an excellent choice such as a strawberry malt. It's about as standard a malt as can be. I honestly think Wendy's and BurgerKing burgers are light years better. You would be better off going to a local restaurant and getting a more gourmet burger for the same price. Went to Burgeworx while playing tourist in Asheville. Hadn't been to place with so many options before. I picked up my little menu and picked out my bun, patty, toppings that cost extra, toppings that were free, dressing and a drink and fries. It was interesting seeing my burger go from $4.19 to $6.30. I don't think I'd been anywhere when pickles was charged extra...to me that is a usual topping. There was a little bit of a wait time for a the made fresh food. My wife and I were visiting Asheville and needed a quick and satisfying dinner during a day of shopping and fun at the Grove Arcade and the Asheville Pinball Museum. This place was a very short walk from the museum. I really liked the unique way of ordering a burger, felt very do-it-yourself. It's about time I started reviewing things in this town, so I'll start with Burgerworx where I had a delicious lunch today. It's not the best burger in town, and they probably could be a little faster in getting the food out, but it sure is cheap and tasty. The burger is totally customizable and you can take your time to decide as you fill out a card and hand it over at the counter whenever you're ready (this is a big plus for me as I hate being rushed when I order). The beef patty was a little thin, and they use store-bought buns, but other than that it's delicious. The fries are good, and they also have beer and some fancy sodas which you don't always see at a counter service restaurant. Overall, a solid 4 stars for me. It's not a place I'm going to take visitors when there are so many amazing restaurants in Asheville, but it hits the spot for a workday lunch. read more

Don't get me wrong, the burgers at this place are good and the variety of toppings they have is large and fairly unique. But for an establishment that resides in the heart of the culinary Mecca that is Asheville, they could do so much better. First, the positives: The decor of this burger place is perfect for the free spirit and counter-culture vibe that permeates the heart of Asheville, and to go along with the anti giant corporation mentality of downtown, they serve RC Cola and other independent soft drinks. The burger is farm fresh and the toppings, such as the AsheValley Ranch and Habañero Pepper Relish, are tasty and unique. Also the staff are friendly and attentive and the restaurant is clean. So if you want a good burger, unique toppings and independent soda and local beer, then Burgerworx should please your palette. The Negatives: The Fries. The fries are downright terrible. I ordered a small that was at least the size of a McDonald's large fries, and of much lower quality. These natural cut fries seem to be just soaked in the oil instead of fried in it. There is barely any salt on them and absolutely no seasoning. Also it only takes a quick glance behind the counter to see where a majority of their toppings, buns and other ingredients come from: pre-package bags and cans. I would expect a restaurant in Asheville to try and source as many of their ingredients from local sources, or at least make sure that all the canned chili, bags of buns and other canned vegetables and condiments that anyone could buy at their local Wal-Mart are out of sight of the customers. Overall my experience here was good, but I know I can find a better burger, and far superior fries at other restaurants around town. read more

I just visited Burgerworx again for the first time since my last review, which I wrote shortly after they opened. The people here are very friendly and obviously care about the establishment. When they accidentally put cheese on my lactose intolerant wife's burger, they apologized and went back to make another from scratch without delay. That being said, while the quality of food has increased a bit, I'm still not going to be a regular customer. I'm still no fan of the fries. They are thick-cut, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but the taste is just wrong. I can't put my finger on it, but I still taste more oil than seasoning or comforty potato goodness. As for the burger, I got a double patty this time for a little more heft. They obviously make these quarter pound patties themselves, and kudos to them for that, but they just don't stand out like good handmade burgers should. One could argue my expectations are a bit high considering the price is about the same as your average fast food joint, but it's really not when you start adding on from their, admittedly, vast amount of condiments and extras. I would put Burgerworx in the same category as a Cookout or In-N-Out Burger. They're better than most fast food, but not by much. I rate them an extra star from my last review for an increase in quality and service. Plus, they are an affordable option downtown. I'd choose them over fast food for those reasons alone, or if I just have a hankering for a chili burger with fries on top. But given my 'druthers, I'd rather spend an extra two bucks on a big quality burger at Carmel's, Roman's, or Burgermeister's (if I have my car), than spend it on adding bacon and a fried egg, or grilled onions and liverwurst to a Burgerworx burger. read more
