I have PCOS and bleed so heavily that it causes iron deficiency, which severely affects my ability to function day to day. In May, I had my iron tested due to worsening symptoms. When my results came in, Jessica told me my levels were normal and that I needed to continue iron pills because insurance would not cover an infusion. I explained that I've taken pills before, they do not work for me, and that I've previously needed iron infusions -- three times in the past -- because of this exact issue. She dismissed that and said if I wanted an infusion, I'd have to pay out of pocket and "prove" the pills don't work. She said insurance would only cover it if the pills failed. Months later, I found that my original iron level was actually below the minimum (I'll attach a screenshot for proof). That means I should've qualified for an infusion back then. Fast forward: I'm still experiencing symptoms -- fatigue, dizziness, extreme bleeding -- and went in again. Jessica told me that even if I'm below the minimum range, it wouldn't qualify me unless I can't tolerate the pills. Again, I explained the pills do nothing for me -- just like last time. When I finally got my newest results this week, I was told my level is at 17. The minimum is 15. That's barely above the threshold and still not acceptable for someone like me who works a physically demanding job and bleeds heavily due to PCOS. The nurse, Ashley, who reviewed my case, noted in the patient portal with emotional immaturity that "the iron pills don't work." That should have been enough to qualify me for an iron infusion. Yet Jessica still denied care and told me to "speak to my gynecologist," as if it isn't her job to advocate for the infusion. I escalated the issue and spoke to a higher-up named Nicole, who confirmed they'd involve the medical chief and HR. I explained I felt racially discriminated against, and I stand by that. There are plenty of studies showing that Black and Brown women are medically neglected, dismissed, and misdiagnosed at higher rates. I said, "If I were a white woman, this wouldn't be happening." After that, another nurse called me -- not even the same one as before -- and with a nasty attitude repeated what Jessica said. When I brought up how this feels like racial bias, she literally said, "My partner is a person of color, so don't bring that card up." That was one of the most ignorant and defensive responses I've ever heard. It doesn't matter who you date -- you're still upholding a biased system if you're treating patients unequally. This entire situation has caused me serious mental and physical stress. Because of this negligence, I've suffered: Dizziness, Chronic Fatigue, Low energy, sleeping 13 hours and still being exhausted, needing multiple naps and struggling to work and study. Nicole told me they're investigating and transferring me to a new provider, but that doesn't excuse the harm already done.

When our beloved long-time pediatrician stopped accepting our insurance, I was heartbroken and honestly didn't think we'd ever find another practice that compared. After asking around, I received at least a dozen recommendations for Piedmont Pediatrics in Mooresville -- and now, several months in, I completely understand why. Dr. Malloney is absolutely fantastic -- incredibly knowledgeable, personable, funny, and down-to-earth. He's refreshingly candid and so easy to talk to. My child has complex medical needs, and he's shown genuine understanding, patience, and expertise every step of the way. On more than one occasion, he's known rare conditions and offered insights I hadn't even come across in my own extensive research. We've also seen Cassie (CNP) several times, and she's just as wonderful -- thorough, warm, and confident in her care. More recently, we've met Shareeza (CNP), who's been equally impressive, both when working alongside Dr. Malloney and independently for urgent visits. She's calm, compassionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. I love that Piedmont Pediatrics is a smaller, local practice -- personable and welcoming -- yet still part of the Piedmont Healthcare system, which provides the benefits of a larger network, specifically online records, scheduling, and messaging. It's the perfect balance for families like ours who prefer more individualized care than the big systems (like Atrium or Novant) often provide. Unlike some pediatric offices we've visited, they also have fun, themed exam rooms that make visits more enjoyable for the kids -- small detail, big difference! Their front office staff is wonderful, too. Ashley at the desk is always so kind and efficient, helping with scheduling, questions, and urgent appointments. Another sweet staff member (whose name I regret not remembering!) has also been so caring during our visits. And every nurse we've met is genuinely amazing with kids -- mine actually smile the whole time we're there! We have a complex medical history, and I can't overstate how much I appreciate their willingness to spend extra time answering my million questions, reviewing labs and notes, and collaborating with my kids' specialists. That level of thoroughness and teamwork means the world to me as a parent. I actually found Piedmont Pediatrics through a referral, and now I have to return the favor by recommending them to anyone looking. They've earned every bit of their outstanding reputation. The practice also has an easy-to-use app and online patient portal, which I really value for reviewing records, messaging the office, and sending updates before visits. Overall, Piedmont Pediatrics has exceeded my expectations in every way. It's a small practice that delivers truly exceptional, high-quality care -- professional, compassionate, and deeply personal. I highly recommend them to any parent looking for a pediatric team that truly listens, collaborates, and cares.
