The concerts are upstairs in what was most likely a private home of very wealthy people. Check with your hotel or tourist information for specific dates and times. Seated upstairs, we faced a baby grand piano. A docent introduced the piano player and the composition to be played, followed by a formally dressed man who bowed, sat and played. It was so nice. Well, not understanding how to behave, our little group of four applauded after the piano man played a pretty complicated set of measures. At that, the piano man stopped playing, stood and bowed to us in thanks. We did it one more time and finally realized that this is not what is done. A bit embarrassed, we changed our behavior, holding our applause until it was over. A nice evening, for sure.

The Pod Jaszczurami Club has existed since 1960. It has always been a great place to meet for coffee/beer and a cigarette. Sometimes you would drop in for a disco or some artistic event. There were live concerts, poetry evenings, various types of lectures, karaokes etc. I'm talking about the times when Krakow had a tiny fraction of the bars, clubs and restaurants it offers today. I don't know much about this place these days. However from what I've experienced, having been there a few times in the last few years, I have to admit that it's worth a visit like in the old days. In addition, it looks like the entire interior has been restored. Really cool murals depicting local artists, clean and comfortable sofas are new things that I personally do not remember from the past. In the basement there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to local singer Andrzej Zaucha. Everyone loved him and cried after "Zaucha was shot and killed in his hometown Kraków at the age of 42, by French film director, Yves Goulais, along with Goulais's wife Zuzanna whom he suspected of having an affair with Zaucha". Pretty crazy story. I recently stopped in for a beer. I had planned to sit outside, but all the tables were taken. At the time I thought that was a good thing. I sat on a super comfortable couch with a beautiful view of the Church of St. Wojciech and the Sukiennice. The window was spotlessly clean, as if it wasn't there at all. I had a really nice time watching people walking by and sipping cold Książece beer. Next time I'll check the live music schedule, maybe hit a dance floor or join one of the karaoke events. You don't want me to sing, and I won't, no worries.

We went to Klub Pod Jaszczurami for drinks and they were having a karaoke night so we stayed there for awhile. The drinks are good and it was a nice experience. You pay up front and it was 45 zloty which is such a good deal (like $12 USD) for what you get. The spread is amaaaaaaaazing! The variety is huge. They had cereals, different breads, pastries, charcuterie, veggies, spreads, hummus, yogurt, and hot food too like scrambled eggs, kielbasa, grilled veggies, zapiekanki, and bacon. And it was just so beautiful the way it was laid out. For drinks, they had coffee, tea (earl grey for me!), apple juice, orange juice, and water. There might've been a pitcher of a smoothie but wasn't 100% sure. Some things were labeled, but not everything. The tomatoes the label said was from their garden. I got a little bit of everything to try for the first round and it was so much fun. It was also super filling. My second go-around I got my favorites - the eggs, kielbasa, the cauliflower from the grilled veggies, the homemade bread, & this beet dish. I am in a heavy state of food coma right now but i'll be walking this off today in Old Town later. I loved this place so much that I'm seriously considering going back for breakfast again tomorrow!
