As I was walking down the High Street in Burntisland I stumbled over an information board. However, this was not any old information board! No, this was a board providing you a history of famous kings and queens who have links to the town (including quite a few who actually stayed in the town).
Such famous names include Oliver Cromwell, whose army used this town as a base in his Scottish campaigns. King Alexander III was killed in an accident just outside Burntisland in a fierce storm. The most famous visitor was Mary Queen of Scots who fell in love with the local area.
It's quite interesting to see how important and impressive Burntisland's history is. Even the man who created Arsenal Football Club was born here!
A great source of information for locals and visitors, provided by the Heritage Trust of Burntisland! read more
