We have been coming here for years. We were in Friday night and received the same phenomenal service we always have. This place has grown a lot. We used to come when it was bar & wine only and had a very distinct dive bar smell. They've definitely invested in this location and turned around the business. Full liquor bar, friendly staff, and a very clean environment. Burtons has been around forever. I believe it's the oldest bar in that area. It's really cool to see the bar change with the times and continue to focus on a great atmosphere with great service. read more

Great bar with more to it than initially meets the eye. Burton's is a bar located in the heart of Thornton Park. From the outside, it just seems like another bar. It does have a few outside seats and 1 or 2 tvs, but you wouldn't be drawn to it otherwise. You see how wrong you are once you go inside. The bar is split into two areas with the bar acting as an island. The portion of the bar where the entrance is located has several booths and televisions (which makes it a little louder than one would like or expect). It also has a few games, such as the golf wheel video game, but the best parts of this portion of the bar are in the back. What are those parts...Popcorn and darts! While each component is okay apart, eating popcorn and playing darts is a surprisingly fun experience. However, I would recommend eating the popcorn with your non-dominant hand unless you bring your own darts. The other side of the bar also contains several electronic dart board structures, as well as pool tables, a hockey game, and a Foosball table. While each item individually may not seem like much, there is actually a decent amount to do in this little bar. The beers are pretty cheap relative to other bars in the area, so you could spend time in here playing games, drinking beer, eating popcorn, and watching games for several hours before realizing how much time had passed. Overall, while the outer appearance of the bar and each component of the bar separately doesn't stand out, everything put together in this central area of Thornton Park makes for a fun bar experience. read more

Burton's is not a bar. Burton's is a dive bar. And that's Mr. Dive Bar to you, bub. It is beer and wine, no hard liquor. Linoleum floor, booths down the walls, old style bar top, pool table, darts, juke box, and TV's set to any and all sports. It is smokey - no food. Outdoor seating. Very much like any good neighborhood bar up north. Great place to drop into after a walking tour of Eola Heights. No happy hours or specials, just $3 drafts all day every day. One star for Buck Hunter. One star for complimentary popcorn. And one more for the ability to bring your dog. Unfortunately, I have a hard time with cigarette smoke, so the the Burton only gets 3 stars out of me because of their smoke level. It's the type of place that will make your hair still smell the morning after being there. Aside from that factor, I love the fact that they allow for pups and provide free popcorn. Both characteristics make it unpretentious and laid-back. And if you're trying to entertain yourself, the video games and pool tables should suit your fancy. Note to liquor drinkers--they don't sell any so be weary of going if you want a martini because they can't help you. read more

Other than Wallys, this is our favorite bar downtown! We love that we can bring our dog to watch football, or enjoy a few beers. The staff is incredible. They are extremely friendly, and they really make you feel welcomed (like a neighborhood bar should). read more

Burton's is a little different than it used to be but not by much. The clientele seems to be slightly more upscale than they used to and the charming lady who always worked there for many years is gone. It's a great place to hang, play pool, shoot the sh@t and drink beers. Good music selection in the jukebox too. One good thing about the change is they take credit cards now. This is the epitome of dive bars, as in look in the dictionary and blah blah... Smack dab in the middle of trendy Thornton Park, Burtons is definitely the wolf in sheep's clothing. Not sure what the hours are but, any time I'm walking by it's open. The concept is about as simple as it gets: a bar, a jukebox, regulars, beer (and wine, no liquor). There's pool tables and a few games, as well as a decent number of TVs. They allow dogs outside. The hugest drawback (for me) is the liberal application of cigarette smoke. I can't walk out of there without wanting to burn every stitch of clothing I wore in. However, the beer is cold, the variety decent, and the patrons (usually) good for a laugh. Oh and people watching on the weekends is fantastic! All things considered, if I lived in Thornton Park, this would likely be my go-to bar. read more

I had a chance to check this place out last night for the first time and I must say I really enjoyed myself. I tried to go on one other occasion but had worked a beerfest downtown that day and was way too drunk to find my way. I ended up losing my keys that night and missing work the next day. But that's another story. Burton's is a great little dive bar meeting spot. It's one of those bars that you call home. I say this because every city in America has a bar like this. I'm not saying it isn't unique in its own right. But, It's a place you just go to have a couple beers, relax, and play some pool. It's not fancy, the drinks aren't expensive, and classic rock is the staple music. I love it. You can bring in your own take-out too, and they even allow you to byob if they don't sell what you bring. I saw some guys bring in their own 4 pack of sparks to start the night. When I lived downtown this place was like a second home to me. When you get tired of all the Orange Ave. nonsense this is a great spot to kick back and relax. I discovered Burtons because I used to sneak in for a pint while I was doing my laundry next door. It's one of the only true "neighborhood bars" in the Thornton Park / Eola Heights area. Pros: --Kind of divey and very NON-pretentious --Free popcorn --Open during the day --Awesome TV's if you want to watch a game --They had the NFL ticket at one point (not sure if they still do) --Dog friendly Cons: --No liquor, only beer and wine --You can smoke in there, which is good but it gets overwhelming sometimes There aren't many bars in downtown Orlando that cater to the locals but this is one of them. They have a "come as you are" sort of attitude and everyone there is really friendly. read more

I can really only stand this place at certain times of the week/day. The main reason behind this is that they allow smoking inside =( The HUGE pluses, Free popcorn, Cider AND you can have doggies INSIDE! It is a dive bar for sure but it's not as gross as other dive bars. The bartenders are on par and there are TVs, pool tables and a jukebox. Makes for a ton of fun if you get a buzz going but I wouldn't hit this place up when it's really poppin'. I wouldn't be able to stand the smoke. I adore a place that's dog friendly on the inside! They have beer and wine and popcorn. Love it. On Sundays there is free hotdogs and hamburgers. Darts pool etc. I love a good dive bar. read more

in my dive-bar rating opinion - there's nothing more classic than the smell of smoke stained leather and beer spills when walking into an establishment. Smells like pool hall junkie fun :] And I love coming here for a few reasons: - Watching Sports - The screens are nice and big - Pool Tables - Darts - They allow dogs inside! :) - Jukebox - I love being able to pick songs to play and also hear some of the song selections that other people pick. Sometimes, we make a game out of it and we all have to guess which one in our group played that song. (I'm full of surprises!!) :] The bartenders are cool peoples and on point with service. :] Be forwarned...there is smoking inside. They keep the doors open but if you're a non-smoker and you get bothered by smoke easily, you may not dig this place. read more

There's also a jukebox, are they still called jukeboxes if they're digital? That's something I'll have to do some research on, but I digress... Right in the heart of Thornon Park in downtown Orlando lies this lil' bar and meeting spot. (Note: it's not a grill anymore as the title implies) The bar itself is farily small yet there is plenty of seating--padded bar stools (with backs!), tables and chairs, and booths. Bar activities include: darts, 2 pool tables, satellite jukebox, a deer-killing video game, Golden Tee and Megatouch! They also have... free popcorn, popped fresh every 30 minutes or so. Ka-ching! Beers are priced fairly, and they have the usual beers you'd find most everywhere else. That works for me though, as I likes me some Miller Lite. Ice cold, too! Most of the staff is pretty friendly. The owner(?) Robert is super cool! He remembered my name from one prior visit about 4 weeks ago, when he only had a brief introduction. He also knew my friend's name from years ago. A classy gentlemen indeed. The mix of patrons is fun and fresh, due to the casual off-the-street walk-ins. You'll find a blend of old timers, yuppies and indie rocker-types. All in all, it's a fun place to meet up before or after dinner, or right after lunch on a hot hot day. We're going tonight, and I hope it mix it up in there with the locals. This is the only dive bar I've been in that smells clean and you notice it right when you walk in. Bathrooms are clean too and have a pleasant smell to them (or at least the woman's restroom!) This place has got a couple pool tables and dart boards, and you can order bar food. Wednesday's is live music and $3 burgers. I only had a side of fries but they made me hungrier for more- they were so crispy and perfectly seasoned. Bartenders were super friendly and helped me pick a cocktail other than my basic "Tito's, soda and lime". Everything was reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. read more

In the midst of all the trendy, and, oftentimes, expensive bars and lounges of Thornton Park/Downtown, we have Burton's. Burton's Bar is just that--a bar that offers a modest array of beers and a few wines. They do have cider but only Woodpecker (the worst of the ciders after Woodchuck and Hornsby). Burton's is a dim, casual and friendly dive bar full of laid back patrons, a few pool tables, televisions and some outdoor seating. If you want to pop on over for a laid back, "I'm wearing a t-shirt and jeans" downtown evening, Burton's a pretty chill place to do so. read more

I had been to Burton's many times over the years, and with the change in management, I had the opportunity to check it out again. Inside, everything seemed a bit cleaner than it was before (a little too clean...I could smell a slight bleach odor). There was full liquor available now, which is a welcome change. Been here twice, once right after their re-opening and then just recently to give them another try. The beer is warm (had a Stella first visit and Ace Pineapple second visit) the service is poor due to servers focused on the regular clientele instead of cultivating newbies to their bar, and they don't make you feel comfortable. We live just two blocks from there, so if it's a neighborhood bar...it's apparently not for "all" neighbors. Walk across the street to Dexters or just a few blocks to World of Beer for better service, ambience, and cold refreshments. read more

ooooohhhhh Burtons. I remember when the patrons of Burtons were not as upscale, just like the other reviewer Chris. The "charming" lady who worked the bar used to share her snack of cheez wiz and saltines :-) ahhh but that is another story, alas. Now it is the neighborhood bar that, yes, you can smoke in, bring the dog, and just shoot the breeze. There are pool tables and of course the free popcorn. Good dive bar. Great for watching sports games with buddies bc it doesn't get crazy crowded whenever i go there. Also, like others mentioned it can get a tad smokey if the doors are closed. The popcorn is great, i love being able to drink next to a giant dog(if the patron next to you has one, bc i do not), and they have always had my Philadelphia Eagles games on. There seems to be a nice little group of Philly fans that flock here. Great plus since i feel like most bars around here have some connection to the Steelers for some terrible towel reason. NO hard liquor though so be forwarned. You have been forwarned. read more

We went to Burton's to meet up with friends (who are regulars here) on Saturday night. There is no smoking inside (apparently a recent change from the reviews) this is either good or bad depending on your smoking preference. It was hot inside, it was hot outside. So we sat outside and people watched. (One bike accident, a group of German tourists, and a girl sporting pirate boots.) They only serve beer (and wine) and they had a decent variety. The women's restroom was recently redone (according to my friend), and was actually pretty nice compared to the rest of the place. That's all. I could take it or leave it. Meh. read more

Burtons is a Thornton Park staple. I can remember when they had one depressing window and the place served as a drinking cave. I loved it then too. They only serve beer and wine so if shots are your thing, this is not the place for you. There's no food served so they do allow smoking. Dive bar extraordinaire. That is what this place is. Located in Thornton Park where everything is hip and trendy, this place is in a class all its own. This little dive has everything that dive bars do best - only beer and wine, TVs, pool tables, darts, a jukebox, and smoking inside. It's THAT bar. Everyone is friendly but will leave you alone if that is what you want. The clientele ranged from the hipster guy in purple skinny jeans, to the "Jersey Shore" type, to someone suited up a la Barney Stinson and everything in between. If you want to go out, but aren't looking to hooch yourself up to shake your ass downtown, this is where you should go. I miss the old Burton's; the one that smelled so strongly of stale beer and fryer grease that you had to shower the minute you stumbled home. They've cleaned the place up considerably over the years as the neighborhood has become more upscale. Now the clientele is more hipsters and frat boys who think they're hanging out in a dive bar...little do they know what a real dive is. Still, it's a nice neighborhood place with great staff and an easygoing vibe. The beer selection is decent and the pool tables and games are fine. It's a good place to hang out and stop in for a beer while walking the dog or to grab a drink after dinner. It's no longer a dive, but Burton's is still an unpretentious oasis in the neighborhood. read more

This is the locals hang, it's nothing fancy an it doesn't need to be. It's what all the regulars love about it. It just is. A place to meetup, a place to chat, a place to just be yourself an nobody minds. The free popcorn is addictive an you have been officially warned! If there isn't a boat left ask for a plastic cup to enjoy. Nice beer selection, no liquor, but nearby Graffiti Junction is a stone throw so go between the two if you need a shot or have a liquor drinker in your group. It's so common ya just tell em you're going fir a shot an will return. People love the jukebox here, which can be good depending on their choices right?! For the most part it's all good choices. The outside patio area us popular for people watching an smoking an enjoying the weather. Dogs are welcome inside an out. They love the fur friends here as long as they behave, same is true of some friends. The restroom is not my favorite here or the climate at times but that comes with a local divey jem. Neither will keep me away and they did get new air units but Summer hasn't arrived so we will see if its cooler when the time comes read more
