This has to be one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever tried. The food was delicious, the service, outstanding and the atmosphere was fun and different. We found Busaba on the web and even through it was a Saturday evening, we were able to be promptly seated. The waitress was really friendly and answered all our questions. Now, one of the unusual things about Busaba were the extremely large square tables. It's like a community style table set up. Since we dined when it wasn't super-busy, we had the table to ourselves. It's an interesting convent, kind of how hibachi tables are set up, only there is no cooking. The food far surpassed my expectations. I had the Tom Ka Soup as an entree and I have to say, this was hands down, the BEST! I enjoyed the Tom Ka here more than I did when I was actually in Thailand. Kind of wild, but that's my take. I also had a delicious mango yogurt drink with my meal that balanced out the spice in the Tom Ka. Overall, a very memorable and delicious meal was had. We loved Busaba (Soho) when we lived in London. Having been back a couple times in recent months, we tried the St Christopher's Place location. Our first walk down memory lane was memorable - the green curry simply wasn't as flavorful as we remembered (and it was day-glo green). Everyplace has an off night, though. We returned a couple months later to an even worse experience. Orders were mixed up, the yellow curry crab was fishy, the calamari was forgotten and when it came it was overcooked, fishy with a new sauce perhaps intended to hide the off flavor, and just warm enough not to be called cold. Even the beer tasted as if Singha bottles were filled with Budweiser. The waitress may have been new, explaining some of the confusion, and she was very nice. However, the kitchen simply isn't as good as it used to be. Won't be back for a third try. read more

The staff was also great and quick with orders / making sure we were enjoying our meal / being taking care of. The Thai food was good and reasonably priced. Recommended by a friend, we decided to try this chain. I loved the ambience & seating arrangements of the place. We came at an earlier dinner time, so it wasn't too crowded. We ordered the calamari, pad thai, and fish curry dishes. We aren't into spicy so got mild for both mains. We got the pad thai and fish curry first. Mmm. They use thin noodles for the pad thai which was awesome. So delicious and not drenched in sauce like many Asian fusion places I've tried. The fish curry was also very delicious, so soft and well paired with the curry. They brought the calamari as a side rather than as an app for some reason, but it was also quite delicious - a decently large portion, too. Top notch Thai food, a bit on the expensive side, though I'd love to come back here again. read more

We're still quite close to this Busaba Eathai and we continue to order from here regularly. They've never mixed up a to-go order or an order when we've eaten in. The food has always been absolutely delicious. It's even hard to choose a favourite! The Bangkok King Prawn dish is amazing. It's a dry yellow curry that goes really well with rice and has incredible flavour. The Tom Yam Gong soup is also bursting with lemongrass and curry flavours. And their classic pad thai is the best I've ever had. I usually don't like pad thai because I find most of them too dry and too peanut-y. This one is moist and has nice hints of lemongrass and citrus. Amaaaaazing. I would always order the phad phak. It's just a small side of vegetables but the sauce they cook it in is seriously out of this world. It's sweet but savoury and compliments the veggies very well. It think the only thing I've had from here that wasn't crazy about was the chilli prawn fried rice. It didn't stand out to me. But who cares! That leaves so many more options! yayayayaya read more

I would not mind having this Thai chain in the States. It is what it is - fusion Thai for the masses - but what it is ain't bad. Seating is communal and the noise level is high, making for a vibrant buzzing atmosphere. Service is quick and efficient. The food is pretty good. I tried the red mullet jungle curry with coconut tip, green peppercorn, and chilli, as well as the geng gari gari, a chicken curry with new potato and cucumber relish. The jungle curry was a bit disappointing, spicy but skimping on depth of flavor. The chicken curry was much better, with lovely curry-infused chunks of chicken and potato. I don't know that it's worth waiting in line for, and if £8 curries that don't even come with rice pass for cheap eats in London...well, yikes, sorry mates. That said the food is perfectly adequate and the vibe is fun. I can see how this place might become a neighborhood staple. I just wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Decent place, decent food, and average service. Went for a quick lunch, and I quite enjoyed my drunken noodles. It wasn't cooked in the standard way, but I didn't mind the creativity and twist. Seafood in it was pretty fresh and the seasoning was flavourful. Service was okay but slow. We had to ask for tap water three times before it was brought. Food came on time, though. This place is great for a buzzing bite right in the centre of Soho, on Berwick Street. On a Friday or Saturday night, expect huge queues and a little bit of a wait but how can you resist that smell! During the summer it's nice to sit at the window for a proper Thai lunch and watch passers by, the windows are usually open in the summer and it really feels like you're in the middle of the most happening part of town. Many a celeb has also eaten at Busaba with the theatre district just a hope and a skip away. With alcohol, expect to spend around £20 per person, if you really want a slap-up meal. I was meeting my parents in Mayfair, they were flustered driving without a Tom Tom in London's labyrinthine set of streets. They proposed La Tasca, I scoffed and reliably informed them that for the same price they could eat great quality, low fuss food in a restaurant sweetly jasmine scented. So we landed at Busaba Eat Thai tucked behind Selfridges, rather less busy than her Wardour Street sister but no less delicious. London restaurateur Alan Yau (the man who brought us Yauachta, Hakkasan and Wagamama) secured private equity investment of £21.5m to transform his Busaba Eathai restaurant into a chain. The flagship Soho restaurant, which opened in 1999, comprises of large square, communal tables serving a menu of authentic Thai food. Chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, creamy green curry, perfectly seasoned pad thai, the list goes on and on. Easily the best value, high quality food in town, only lacking on intimacy due to the communal nature of the tables and lack of advance bookings for smaller groups. Let's take it from the top. Queue: 20 people. That's normal. And they've thought about it. There's a loooong corridor where you stand. It's decorated, and kept warm, so waiting is not unpleasant at all. Time to sit down: 5 min. I was surprised! Mind you, it's very easy to get a seat if you're 2 people, it's the 3+ that starts to be a challenge. Still, they give you menus while you're in the queue to speed things up, and watching the floating candles and flowers keeps you zen anyway. Time to order: 5min. Waiters are quite eager... Time for food to come: 20min. Started getting bored, but then all the food came at once! They don't bother with starters and things, everything comes at the same time and you dive in. YUM! Food is delicious, service generally quick if not always fluent in english, and the ambience lovely, especially if, like me, you are trying to escape valentine's coupledom dominion of cheesiness. The great big square tables of 10 people each form a lovely space on which we can lay out many dishes, and talk to each other and eavesdrop on other conversations. The wooden decor and low-hanging just-bright-enough lamps cast a flattering glow on the food and patrons. The food is delicious (you have GOT to try the prawns under the "sides" heading) and I had to order me more. Originally I was scared as 90% of the dishes are either vegetarian (boring) or spicy (uh oh...). I went with spicy, preferring to risk a burn rather than forego meat, and was pleasantly surprised! Yes, it was spicy, but it was perfectly tolerable even for my low tolerance palate. So I was happy. My plan is to head back there with a group of 10 friends and take over an entire table to ourselves, having a crazy dinner on an otherwise boring evening. Wowza, this place sure seems to be all the rage. Each and every time I set up a meeting with someone from 'round these parts, Busaba Eathai is suggested without fail. My feelings? Sure, it's fine ... I guess. It's definitely not bad ... Really, it's fine. It's fine. Fine, ok? Fine .. if that's what everyone wants ... I guess. (If you could see my face right now, you'd see scrunched up eyebrows, lips pursed off to one side and shoulders raised in defense ...in case one of the many 4 and 5 star reviewers come at me in a rage...) Maybe I'm spoiled to amazing thai food from living in the Northwest, (p.s. I love you Portland,) but nothing I've had here (on my 4 visits, mind you) has blown me away. I've yet to feel the spice kick from any dish, even when I've specifically asked for them to "turn up the heat." But unlike others, I really dig the communal seating arrangements and my service has been beyond speedy each visit. My consensus: safe thai food for the masses. Which, to reiterate, is fine. It's modern city life with a hint of the East. I appreciate the therapeutic atmosphere! It's warm, energetic, the calm water features, the candles and the lemon grass incense that fills the room (you can even smell the incense as you walk up towards the entrance). A bit of warning: Do plan ahead as it does get busy during the evenings especially on weekends and being waited on takes ages! It does take awhile till you get your bill so do ask for it when you have almost finished your meal, that way you can just up and pay for it. I usually order the Thai green curry with coconut rice or grilled duck with coconut rice. I'd say there is more curry then the rice, the portions of the coconut rice is not enough and it is slightly pricey. The curry is rich and I do love the marinated duck. If you are planning for a romantic meal, I suggest you go during quiet times; like early afternoon to avoid the loud combustion (unless you are use to the busy life). Also do take note that you do end up sharing a table with other people (so avoiding eye contact with strangers is slightly difficult). This place is good for gatherings and large groups. read more

After queueing for half an hour in the cold last Thursday night outside busaba Eathai I was expecting fireworks. What I wasn't expecting was to be perched on a bench with a load of strangers but luckily the delicious food managed to outweigh the horrific service and uncomfortable seating arrangement. I had the chicken butternut squash stir-fry with cashew nuts and chili for £5.70 with jasmine rice and a coke. By the time I tipped (which I so shouldn't have for the appalling service) it came to about £13. The food was gorgeous, the chicken melted in my mouth and was perfectly filling. The waiters however threw the orders down at us rudely, and gave us all the wrong meals. Not even asking us once if we were ok, it was almost like a practical joke of how much rudeness can you bear. I normally would've given this place 4-5 stars, but I went twice in one week and the inconsistency is terrible. My first meal was sooo good! Probably the best thai place I've eaten in London. I swear all ethnic food is a bit rubbish! But I was so glad I stumbled upon this spot between Oxford street shopping. The first time, I decided to get a noodle dish; my favorite is pad thai or pad see ew, but I saw they had this starred version - which included crab meat. Obviously, it was clear to me to splurge. I went home and was pleasantly surprised that the noodle was a good consistencies, the spice was a good level and had plenty of shrimp and tofu! (not so much crab meat, but that was expected) My second encounter was last night, I was famished from shopping. I was looking forward to eating this in the comfort of my home tonight so I decided to order more (and for 1 - lonely, I know). I got the regular pad thai and green curry + rice. The pad thai was the biggest disappointment, it wasn't spicy at all! Complete 180 from last week's dish. I was scrambling to see if I had any hot sauce in the hotel cuz it was soooo bland. Secondly, the green curry didn't have much substance. It had very little corn and peas - I'm used to the regular bamboo shoots, bell peppers version. It was bad, but definitely did not give enough rice for how thick the curry was. The spice level was medium, but it definitely lacked vegetables or something to add to the dish. All in all, I'm pretty disappointed that I wasted stomach space for this. Definitely try something new next time. read more

For some reason I've always expected this place to be a bit on the pricey side, which is something I don't really associate with Thai food... well it's not, in fact its reasonably priced. (Reasonable... £28 for two mains and two drinks, which I appreciate you can get cheaper but in the area it's not bad) There's a lot of choice in this small area (next to selfridges) but if your after quick and tasty I'd recommend this place. The layout is communal eating so if it's busy, you'll be sharing a table with others, unless you have a group big enough for your own table (probably around 8). It's got a ethnic feel to the decorations inside with lots of dark wood and Thai statues around. There is a good selection of food on the menu covering all the traditional favourites plus a few "specials". We went for the pad thai and the north Thai Laksa - that I wouldn't normally associate with Thai but it was actually really good!. There's an abundance of staff that are always on the look out for how they can help and therefore all very friendly. I should mention this place is a chain and in their other stores we haven't had such a good experience. read more

Progressively getting worse over the last couple of years. Last time my meal was delivered in reverse; main, then entree, prawn crackers and then drink. Today we had two booked tables (separate bills) on a not too busy day. We ordered with the Manager on a table of 9. There was a mixture of menu and express menu items, but it took 50 minutes for the last order to arrive. The menu items (4) came first at 40 minutes, and then (4) express items 5 minutes later. My express menu meal came a further 5 minutes later. It was supposed to be Crispy Duck Noodles. What I got looked more like noodle vomit. The duck was warm, but the noodles looked like they had sat in cold water for too long and had started to break down. The noodles were cold and soggy with sparsely dispersed small chunks of hot duck meat. I sent it back to the kitchen where it was heated up, and returned to me. Google the meal and compare it to what I received. No apology for the tardy service. Half the mains were served before the entree arrived. Drinks took a long time to arrive. Water jugs took even longer to be replaced. Prawn cracks that were ordered but never arrived (not charged to the bill). Yet they still wanted to charge for my meal?!? And a service charge!!! I couldn't give anything lower than 1 star, which is a shame cos I'd give no stars at all! read more

My boyfriend and I have been traveling in England for about a week, and so far, the food has been fantastic- until we came here. I was craving Asian food and the tube was slammed so we opted to come here bc it was close. Bad idea. The service is HORRIBLE. You have to yell to talk to the person next to you. ALWAYS asking for water, wtf! I shouldn't have to ask for water 4x and the last time I asked for water and the check as well, the waiter I guess decided to not bring it bc I had asked for the check as well. If you're going to do the communal table, then they need to break into sections. There are way too many people for the service to be this shitty. The food wasn't even ok. The saving grace was the tom yum soup. This spot is definitely not worth it and I regret not attempting the crowd for something else. read more

We were taking our final sips of a cold latte at the Costa on Wigmore St (opp. Levant) when a friend popped by and insisted on going to Busaba. I thought it would be a little bit of a walk, but within minutes we were in the restaurant. OK, so I hadn't heard of the Bird Street location. The place seemed distinctly large or I might have been suffering from a spatial illusion stroke. After being greeted with a fairly warm welcome, we were seated in the communal style tables, which I quite love. The food was very average. The chicken satay was abominable; chicken was rubbery, and the peanut sauce was anemic. Moment of Nirvana :--- You CAN go wrong with chicken satay! ... so it wasn't just me, my fellow consumers didn't venture as near as more than a bite. The chicken satay should definitely go off the menu. Green curry; very average. Although I distinctly remember my licking my fingers after a thai curry at Busaba (Wardour St) a year ago. Busaba is a pretty nifty kind of place. I am partial to a spot of Thai cuisine and this place delivers the goods to an exceptional standard. The food is awesome the location and service is not so hot. The layout and decor of the restaurant is pretty swanky. The table are big square communal ones, much like an upmarket cafeteria, this works well if your in a twosome or lucky enough to get a table where everyone is friendly. However, this being London, the chances of that are slim, and in this particular venue, people seem more interested in thier Blackberry than the social going ons around them. Large group meals don't work so well here as your not allowed to book and the chance of getting a whole free square table is unlikely. They also offer window seating where you can sit and watch the world go by, well thats the idea, however this window looks onto a grey wall. Its ok if you have a good imagination. Busaba is very much you eat you leave, which is fine for a working woman or a man on a mission but please do not go here expecting to take your time over a meal. You will be harrassed by the staff who ask if you would like anything else on an avaerage of 5 minutes. "Yes ok, we get the message". The staff are pleasent, and I believe just doing there job as they are probably told more covers = more tips = get as many people in and out as possible. Unlike the Wardour St branch, I have never seen this restaurant full and it has a much more business like feel to it. All that aside the food is outstanding, I recommend the Thai Green Curry or Sen Chun Phad Thai both are delicious and reasonably priced. I believe the curry is just under £8 and the Phad Thai £11, you would be hard pushed to spend alot of money here £20 can easily cover your food and drink. May I also suggest, for those with a small appetite or on a budget, a side of Thai Calamari and Jasmine Rice, so simple and less than £5 and plenty of food. In fact, alot of the side dishes match the mains. I would urge any good foodie to try this place just bare in mind you won't be hanging around for long. read more

The food here is delicious, assuming you can get seated to get at it! We waited in line (5 of us) for almost an hour and as there is no seating you just stand there patiently. That would have been fine if it was just a long line, but since it is communal seating they kept taking two people and the line must have cycled through twice before they seated us. Again, this could have been understood if they at least looked apologetic but my queries were rebuffed with disdain, not a good way to build customer loyalty! However, for the price, the food is worth a trip. The calamari is a great pick, fresh and crunchy with a bit of a bite from the chilli. The coconut rice was perfectly cooked, just on the right side of al dente and sweet without being overwhelmingly so. I had some sort of chilli beef dish which was full of flavour. I would have preferred more sauce for the simple reason that it was so delicious I would have kept eating it with rice all night. The acidity of the home made lemonade added a nice counterbalance to the richness of the sauce. Overall, I'll go back in a small group of 2-3 but it's not worth the aggravation of trying to land a larger party. read more

Shopping around Bond Street station is fun but finding a place for a bite can be a little harder. Especially when you're looking for something that won't leave a mark on the wallet. Luckily for me, London-Eating came to my rescue and recommended me a place. Nestled discreetly at the back of Selfridges comes a saviour, Busaba Eathai. Busaba doesn't take reservations, which can be bad but good for random shoppers who fancy taking a break. I've been coming here occasionally and I like it. Good food at reasonable prices, just don't expect authenticity with all their dishes. Here are a few of what I've tried. Pandan chicken with garlic and coriander root wrapped in pandan leaf £5.5 This is some tight as wrapping of the pandan leaf. It took us quite an effort to open it but what you get as a reward is some juicy tasty chicken pieces. The pandan flavour seems to have gotten lost in the process though. Sen Chan Pad Thai £7.40 Rice noodles with prawn peanut egg green mango and crabmeat This was a tad greasy but otherwise enjoyable as well. Ginger and honey tea served with cashew and coconut cookie £2.80 This I get every time I'm here. Real Ginger strips that have been added to give that kick at the back of the throat followed by the soothing honey in the hot cup of tea. They may not be the best and most authentic but given the location and scarcity of other cheap eats around, this is a good option. read more

Initially, I wasn't sure if it would be too difficult to have a conversation. We were fine. We ordered: - Pad Thai - Green Curry Chicken - Jungle Chicken - jasmine rice - coconut rice The pad thai was nice. Not too sweet, nor too sour - just right. I think I was more impressed with Busaba the first few times I came here but I've since realized that while it is still a very decent place to catch some Thai in central London, it's nothing amazing or out of this world, really. I am sitting here right now as I am writing the review. This is real time stuff! Well, it was. I am now finished the review a little over a week later. The Sen Chan Pad Thai is very good, the hot and sour soup is OK, and the chargrilled chicken is so-so. Here's my problem, I work upstairs from this fantastic eatery, and day in day out, I suffer from a chronic Pavlovian response, by the assault of Lemongrass and Jasmine wafting through the air as I try to scurry past without becoming weak at the knees. A problem no? For comparisons sake, I was always a fan of Wagamamas, but I tended to find myself going straight back to the Katsu Curry time after time, (if I couldn't see enough to make me eat outside the box). Here at Busaba's, I have complete faith that I can move around the menu and be totally stoked at what ever I chose, (but always with a side of Peppercorn Calamari). A great place to get a quick filling meal if you are out shopping on Oxford Street or staying in one of the nearby hotels. The food is very good - spicy, not bland, as one would expect from a good Thai establishment. You can't go wrong with the green curry which is better than my local restaurant at home. There may be a line at 7pm, but it moves fast and the service is quick. The only minus is the flavored ice tea which comes in a very small cup priced at L3 - ripoff! But otherwise you can't go wrong here. For single travelers there is also nice counter seating at the large window where you can watch the street go by. read more

Hmmm...mixed feelings about Busaba after my last trip. First time round (at the Wardour St. branch), I would have definitely given it four stars and possibly even five based on flavour, decor and value for money, but I was quite disappointed with this trip. It was Saturday night and pretty packed so perhaps I should let them away with the slip ups but we were served raw chicken which is hard to forgive. It was the chicken satay starter and it was very pink and cold on the inside! Apparently, the size of the chicken chunks have changed so the cooks must have mixed up the timing, but still...The dish was discounted from the bill but it would have taken a little more than that for me to forget about the incident. There was also a faff with drinks being added to the bill that we hadn't ordered but I guess that can happen with those big shared tables. I am a big fan of the big shared tables and the decor in general. The food (when cooked) is very tasty too, my ginger beef main contested to this fact. Those eating with me also thoroughly enjoyed their curries (red lamb and green chicken) and chargrilled beef. My go-to Thai place in central London. The quality is consistent..ly delicious. They do the basic pad thai well but I prefer the twist the original, pad thai jay, for the extra dose of veggies. The curries are also quite nice. This place is always busy and it's clever that they have the shared table set up to move the line faster. It's probably not ideal if you're on a date but I'm usually here with a small group of girlfriends so sharing a table is not an issue. For the price, this place can't be beat! read more

I really really really liked this place!! to the extent that I was actually there the night after this check in too! Really busy and quite noisey but it had its own vibe which was nice. The food was tremendous and they also served some really nice ginger tea. I had the squid, broccoli and salmon teriyaki which was really nice. Don't judge me, I run miles and miles and miles every week, I gotta eat too!! How refreshing to stumble across a place that didn't look like much from the outside but was unreal on the inside! Good "western thai" restaurant, with affordable prices and good location. The place is qutie big with a lot of big square tables in the middle and some seats next to the window...you might end up sharing the table with other groups, that sometimes is quite funny... My favourite stuff are the fried prawns (delicious), the traditional pad thai (very big portion) and the meat fillet in soy sauce (forgot the name, but it is very good). Wine list is okayish, not very prestigious wines but possible to order a glass only of decent wine for a limited price.
