We got our gorgeous and delicious wedding cake from Butter Cake Shoppe! We had a two tier cake as well as sheet cakes. Flavor-wise, we opted for the "Champagne cake with passionfruit curd and raspberry buttercream" and the "Raspberry sponge cake with pistachio praline, raspberry curd, and raspberry buttercream". I want to start by saying, I do not live in LA. I live in Vegas and was coming to LA for one day only for one of my closest friend's surprise proposal. The cake itself was alright, I would had liked it to be fluffier and lighter. The flavor we requested was strawberry filling with strawberries, which was good. Now something I didn't like was that for the ice cream cone on top of the cake; the ice cream "scoop" was pretty much filled with butter cream which I was expecting it to be more like a cake pop. As much as I hate to post a negative review, we ordered a heart cake for my daughter's birthday. I paid almost $70 for this cake. When we picked it up it was the smallest cake for that money that I have ever gotten. They took one layer and split it in half, put frosting in the middle. Each layer was not even an inch. The frosting was about 1/2 inch deep. The proportions were just way off. The cake was for 5 of us. I had to cut very small pieces for everyone to get a piece. The frosting was so solid not creamy at all that it literally was like eating some sort of candy. I advise serious caution with this bakery. Ask how big the cake is going to be and if they are going to split one layer into two. I normally get our cakes from Magnolia but decided to try this place. We are gone and not coming back. My wedding guests cannot stop asking me where our wedding cake was from - Butter Cake Shoppe! I knew in just chatting with Ari initially that Butter Cake Shoppe was going to be my top choice - the flavors are classic but creative, and they were willing to jump all in on my vision. My fiance and I went through two tasting boxes - partially because we couldn't decide, but mostly because the cake was just that good. The crunch pearls in most flavors are the best part, so do not skip on those. And anything with the pistachio praline is incredible (seriously, you guys should jar and sell that stuff). We ended up with a gorgeous three tiered 'Lambeth' style cake with lemon and strawberry-pistachio layers, plus two sheet cakes in the back for extra servings. Plus, Butter Cake Shoppe provided the cutest frozen anniversary cake so the top tier didn't have to be saved! I'm not exaggerating when I say that mostly every guest at our wedding asked where the cake was from or said it was the best cake they'd ever had. As if all of that wasn't enough, Butter Cake Shoppe also put together a fishing themed groom's cake for my rehearsal dinner as a surprise for my fiance. I'm still a big fan of this cake shop and have been making some customized orders to them for special occasions for two years in a row. It was an easy experience with them with the orders like sending any requests or specifications on cakes or cupcakes what you want in mind. They would give you an estimated time of the order when it'll be ready for pick-up in the same week or so. You also can pay online via your order without having to show up and save plenty of time. They're very supportive and cooperative with such great communication skills. I had ordered a custom BB-8 cake back in 2016. This was a 6" cake and can easily feed about 7-10 guests. BB-8 came out perfectly. The only downside of this cake was how sweet it was. I had ordered a red velvet cake and everyone at the party complained about how it was just too sweet and the cake was dry. My company needed a custom cake for the launch of our new TV show, and I looked around town for a place that could give us a few different options (print photo, 3D, etc.). Sasha was so cool and quick to respond (and even signed an NDA for us, which other bakeries were NOT willing to do--so important in our industry, even though it is "just a cake"). For budgets' sake, we ended up going with the print photo cake and, because of the shape we needed, we would end up with extra cake...which Sasha generously offered to customize for us as well! We ended up with two gorgeous cakes that were a hit at our party and made our display more elevated and gorgeous. And the cakes were, of course, delicious. I played it safe with all vanilla (vanilla sponge, vanilla buttercream, etc.), and it was surprisingly beyond that traditional vanilla flavor you would expect.
