We were unduly swayed by the fact that they didn't have an "education philosophy" (like other fancier daycares did) and didn't seem to do as many activities as other daycares in the neighborhood. And the price - although we sent our daughter there because it was inexpensive (less than half the price of the daycares in Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo), we thought it was a "lesser" daycare because of the price. We were totally wrong! They are also very flexible with no waitlist. I needed care 3 days a week and they let me pick the days and let me switch the days with a little advance notice if I needed. They also are open pretty late - I think they close at 7:30, whereas other daycares close at 6. Our daughter was here for a little over one year, from age 2 until about 3.25. In that time she was in two different classes and both classrooms were great. The teachers are engaged and care about their jobs (no turnover except for one teacher who went on maternity leave). The day is structured with circle time, singing, storytime, free play, etc. Our daughter learned a lot - she learned to sing "We Shall Overcome" and to recite a Maya Angelou poem. She was in a classroom with only kids her age, which she liked. The teachers tried to teach her numbers and letters and she always came home with art projects and stories about her day. This is also one of the only truly diverse daycares in the neighborhood - not only racially diverse but also economically diverse - because (I think) they are very affordable and they take vouchers. The only downside is that the room didn't have a window and there wasn't a lot of outdoor time, but I have come to realize that this is a common problem in all NYC daycares. I would highly recommend this daycare, especially if you are a little low maintenance and are willing to trade fanciness/name brand for price and flexibility.

I…read morestared sending my son when he was three months old; staff made me feel confident that he was in good hands, which a new mom always needs! The location has an outdoor play space, which was important to me, as well as an indoor place place for days with less than ideal weather. Classrooms are bright, clean and child-oriented, and weekly schedules are posted for parents. I love the weekly art that gets sent home. Staff is responsive and warm, and the adults are familiar with each child. It's always a warm morning welcome. My work requires an early morning start, so early drop off times were a must- TLE meets this (very) important requirement. When looking into daycare, it was important that my child was stimulated as an infant, but also that this would continue throughout the years I plan on keeping him in the center. The curriculum presented for older children seems cognitively demanding and the way the entire center is run is worth the price I pay :)

The previous owners were amazing. The daycare was taken over by a woman named Alina and that was the worst thing that could've ever happened. When I first met her she very nice but that changed quickly. She started to tell me my son needed to be evaluated to get services at the time he was 2 years old. I went forward with getting him evaluated the doctors assured me nothing was wrong with him and he wasn't autistic. I came back with the documentation for her and she told me he needed to be evaluated again. I went back to the doctor they sent me to another facility that would give me services. we got him evaluated again luckily we got our biggest blessing a few months into him having the occupational therapist she told me i should move daycares everytime she arrived they would have him sleeping and the other kids would be playing. That was the first red flag. he was also the only African American kid at the school. So she told me pop up to see what they would do day I'm getting him early blah blah blah. After a few weeks of this Alina tells me he needs to get evaluated again the doctors aren't giving the right diagnosis. my therapist said remove him from that school I enrolled him into A2z on ocean parkway and my therapist started to see him there as well within one week my son started speaking. That was the scariest thing ever. that school was terrible and it's sad because I don't know what they could have been doing to him at this time for him to not feel safe. my son is so so smart if you ever speak to him you wouldn't think that someone ever went so hard to have my son labeled as autistic when he is actually a genius. Was skipped a grade, started reading full chapter books at 5 years old, has the vocabulary of a college student. so again be careful sending your children to this school absolutely the worst decision I ever made

When we took the tour one of the owners walked with us for over an hour and was very thorough and detailed about every aspect of the place. He was very transparent and explained everything exhaustively, I like that. RHCC has a large backyard with playsets, swings, slides, etc. Patient and knowledgeable teachers, the whole place is monitored with cameras, you have to get through two doors (that can only be buzzed open) and the teachers/aides go through a background check. I like security like any parent so this made me feel comfortable. They're flexible on their hours and if your kid isn't potty trained yet they change on premises (if you're comfortable with that.) Plus the thing that sold me the most on the place was the children themselves seemed legitimately happy while they were playing, etc. so that clued me in it wasn't a big act. We'll be taking our child back.
