Comment on my breakfast 9am 1/13 Eggs and biscuit and smoked sausage were only warm.... meaning half way thru meal it was all cold. Biscuits not warm enough to melt butter. Waitress did not seem to make us wait too long so have to think it was nit served fresh.....eggs (scrambled) were dry so must have been cooked before ordered. Disappointing in the extreme since it cost $14! Short on time due to Dr.s appt or I'd have raised an issue. read more

Buttermilk Café took me right back to those home-cooked breakfasts from when I was younger. The food was just the right portion filling, but not in that overly stuffed way. It had a comforting, homemade feel to it that I loved. The whole café has this cozy, small-town vibe, just like the places I grew up around, which made the experience even better. Very cozy and delicious southern comfort food. It's mostly geared towards breakfast and brunch. The pancakes are amazing. They have all kinds of options including lower fat, high protein, healthier options etc. I loved that I can keep my goal and gains while still enjoying a nice brunch out with my family. Great portions for dinner & lunch menu. The prices for beverages were a little higher than most places. I ordered the mini portion pot roast. The only difference between the full and mini is half the size of the protein and one less side. You still get a side salad and two dinner rolls. The rolls come with home made whipped butter. The pot roast came with 2 carrots & 1 red potatoes cut in half. I wasn't a fan of the mash potatoes...didn't have great flavor to me. The pot roast portion for the mini was a lot of meat! Had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time just by the outside curb appeal; that classic diner/restaurant vibe. Finally decided to go when my dad was visiting. Service was good as far as the waitress but both plates were nothing to write home about. I've never had a Denver omelette that didn't have cheese, except here. (Any omelette actually). I thought cheese was a staple to an omelette, guess not - go figure. I can't recall what my dad ordered but he wasn't happy so it wasn't a winner either. Prices were too over priced for what we actually got, and I paid extra for "premium" toast (sourdough) and even that was lack luster. (As in one whole slice had no butter on it.) I'm not sure where all these other reviews visited but it wasn't the same when I went there. No thanks, new customer not made. As a bakery there are a couple dozen cake/Pie types in the display case. Food good, added a bit of pepper to the chicken fried steak gravy and potatoes. They make a mean breakfast. If you leave here hungry, that is on you. Buttermilk cafe is like a time capsule. The decor hasn't changed much in the last five decades, and I kinda like that. They have done some updating on the tables and booths, but it still has that comfortable homey feel. Also, the service brings you back to a time when people actually cared about things like that. I have only ever had breakfast here, but I have tried quite a few things on the menu. They have the typical breakfast fare, pancakes, omelettes and eggs. All are done well and the portions are HUGE. Coming in on a weekend can be a bit hectic. Don't even try coming in after service on a Sunday if you are not prepared to wait. I have Mondays off, and if I am wanting a late breakfast, this is one of my favorite spots. read more

Came here despite the reviews. Honestly the place is outdated in furniture and decor BUTTTTTT it's very clean. We ordered an omelette that came with hash browns and pancakes. Upgraded the pancakes to chocolate chip. Also we ordered the Almond crusted French Toast that had peanut butter, strawberries, sliced almonds, with fresh whipped cream and powdered sugar. This came with sausage and eggs. We also ordered chili cheese fries because why not! They were exactly what we wanted! Perfect! Everything we ate it was soooo delicious. I probably went to this place a dozen or more times within a couple months when they first opened but they soon got so popular they acted like they were doing you a favor letting you eat there. Needless to say, my trips have greatly subsided in the past 8 or so years until today. Since I'm moving from the area, I was looking for something different for lunch and their site came up. I looked at the menu and today's special was chicken fried chicken (which is what I was craving) for $7.95 so I thought I'd give them one more try. It cost me over twice that. The waitress copped an attitude saying they never had that. Then I mentioned it to the checkout lady and she acted like she didn't hear me. So if you want to be treated like you don't matter, then this is probably your place. To be honest, it's a cafe for those that like old classic flavors. This place embodies the phrase, "just like grandma used to make", and there's nothing wrong with that. Especially in mid-cities suburbia. Down home, southern cooking is what this place does best and it pulls from classic recipes with familiar flavors. There's nothing special, just exactly what you would expect. The environment is exactly what you would expect as well. Old school 70s country decor. Wooden chairs, beige tables and flooring, couple of fake flowers here and there. A little dirty and dingy, but it's got its charms. This place needs a makeover for both the menu and the restaurant. We decided to have breakfast here one day and thankfully got in before the breakfast rush (if they have those here.) I was very surprised to see the restaurant looked like it had been built in the 80's or 90's, but the furniture likely hadn't been replaced since. I was seeing things I thought no longer existed in the world and the cushions on the booths looked like they had seen better days. Our food came out at a reasonable speed for breakfast food. I can't say the quality was very high though. I ordered a dish with biscuits and gravy and there wasn't anything that screamed quality about it. The sausage obviously had been frozen previously and what it lacked in flavor, it more than made up for with it's rubbery nature. They had cubed it for some reason in the sausage gravy. Who does that? Just mash it and dash some salt and pepper on it while your at it! The gravy tasted like it was a powdered mix. My eggs were eggs. Nothing special. My wife ordered pancakes, and neither of us really cared for that either. I'm sure they used to be better, but those years are likely far behind them. read more

The first time we went here, it was amazing! Delicious food, fast and friendly service, never-ending coffee. Everything you could want in a breakfast. I'm thinking this is maybe a fluke. The second time we dined here, our food had obviously been sitting at the pass for awhile. Granted, the place was extremely busy, but I don't think that's a good excuse to get ice cold food with no apology. We thought, surely, this must be the fluke because the first time we ate here was great. Sadly, no. We ate here again last weekend and it was sub-par standards. We were seated at a table as it was being cleared from the last patrons, no one even wiped it down - the second the dirty dishes were gone the menus went down. Our waitress came around promptly for drink orders and I asked for another minute with the menu. Apparently to her that meant I needed at least 20 minutes with the menu as she would not come back. After finally ordering food, she said she would refill my coffee cup... Which did not happen until she was giving us the check. My coffee cup was sticky on the inside of the handle and had dirt so stuck on the rim I couldn't pick it off. The biscuits and sausage gravy was basically a joke - there was literally 3 chunks of sausage in all of the gravy and the biscuit was pancake-flat and tasted kind of old. The entire meal, our waitress was nowhere to be found. After this, I doubt we will be back. Old West is wayyyy better. read more
