And in today's second generation of Main Street destruction we sit our unhealthy selves in the comfort of our overheated homes and with a few clicks of the mouse we have a cardboard package whisking it's way to us no mind the human interaction is gone and early onset diabetes gets closer with each substitution of small cardboard box for Main Street strolling we elect to make. But no worries. Soon healthcare will be provided us for free and one more choice that we previously got to make on our own will be gone. Good on us. Want to reclaim a bit of your independence? Want to add ten years to your life and a smile to your face? Go back to Main Street. I was in need of hardware to make a few improvements for mi madre and not being from these parts thought that the big boxes had killed a local hardware option and she said oh hell no we're going to Dubben Brothers they're good people. I was all no way San Jose Main Street is dead but bc Main Street was what mama wants and what mama wants is what all the offspring should recognize as their reason for getting out of bed in the morning off we went. Dubben Bros rocks. It's been there forever! It smells like old time hardware stores are supposed to smell and while it isn't ginormous it does have a ton of stuff. Maybe three varieties of the tool you seek instead of a million but do we really need a million brands to choose between no we do not. I'd suggest if you've recently moved to the area or been there awhile but not in this particular establishment that you drop by and look around to get a sense of what's in store. So to speak. One thing you'll find for sure is an old fashioned hospitality and genuine desire to be of assistance that's hard to find on 28. No disrespect intended those who work hard in those big corporate spaces but there a worker has to serve two masters - us AND the machine. And the priority isn't necessarily in that order.

I switched to Wanderlustny in October 2021 and can only give the highest praise for every aspect of their work.  Alida provides a high level of service and ensures that both the owner and the guests have the best rental experience.  She communicates frequently with guests before, during and after their stay and goes the extra mile to make their stay a 5-star experience.  For example, when a recent guest at my house mentioned they were celebrating a birthday, she took it upon herself to get cupcakes and a birthday card to welcome them on arrival and got them a reservation at a restaurant they were not able to get themselves.  She always looks for current events and compiles a list with must-sees and best places to eat/drink for the area. For the home owner, Alida makes sure the house is in perfect condition before and after any short term rental. Whereas the typical property manager does a quick and superficial walk through, Alida takes her time to thoroughly inspect the house and grounds and communicates frequently about anything she notices. When rentals are slower, she promotes my property on social media and handles pricing adjustments to increase rentals during off seasons. Alida stacks her team with the best local contractors so issues can be fixed quickly if needed. She develops a great report with cleaning crews but also supervises their work and has them come back to fix items they might have missed.  With Alida of Wanderlustny I have zero concern about renting out my house. What some realtors also do in this area is that they do not list the public area attractions so they can lower the value. For instance, if you go to Captain's Cove, Virginia online listings that area often lists the private and public attraction areas nearby like gym, swimming pools, marinas, etc. In Upstate, NY, like Oneonta, NY, realtors often do not list the nearby public swimming areas, YMCA, 2 colleges/universities, several parks, etc. They do not do any marketing, and sometimes lower property values by doing that. The small village I live in has several attractions, so I would find Benson Agency that has an office about 20 minutes from where I am substandard.

We went to Cooperstown Field of Dreams a Tournament and stayed at this loft for a week. Lots of…read moregood things about the rental and a few questionable things as well. Pros: 1)Directly outside of the Dreams Park which made getting to and from the park very easy. We had rain delays, and instead of just hanging out at the park to see when the rain would stop, we went back to the loft and relaxed in bed watching TV or whatever. Pros: 2) They have private parking in the back of the house just in front of the stairway to the entrance. Although we were right on the busy highway, it felt secluded because the entrance was at the back of the house adjacent to a large grassy meadow. Pros: 3) They had built in washer/dryer in the unit. So we did laundry daily and didn't need to bring another suitcase of extra clothes. Pros: 4) The wifi was strong enough to do work and stream videos online. Very handy when you have kids around. Pros 5) There was a small kitchen that made meals and snacks 100x easier that living in a hotel. Pros: 6) The people who live on and own the property were nice and were available when needed. Cons: 1) You don't have a secure unit. By that I mean that the front door lock is easily bypassed. Also there is an inside door that leads down to the second level that has no lock on it. The unit is potentially accessible to other/former guests. In fact, one of the male owners/family members came into our loft during our stay without giving any notice, to "get something out of the laundry closet". I realize that they may have gown up in the home, but I felt there needed to be notice given if they enter while "Guests / my family" were renting the unit. I felt really uneasy leaving my wife and daughter there alone and leaving our electronics/ laptops in the unit while we were out. We didn't lose anythings during our stay, just felt uneasy. Cons 2) Although there was a "kitchen" it was not set up with proper ventilation. There are no windows or venting system in place to take the vapors/smoke/gas-byproducts of cooking out of the kitchen. We had to rig up a system of fans to blow air out of the kitchen via the door entrance. Less than ideal, but we made it work. Cons 3) More attention could have been paid to the cleanliness of the unit as a whole. Example, the window Air conditioning units smelled like mold/mildew when turned on. When I looked closer, the AC units looked like they have not been cleaned in some time and the filters were dirty. We left the AC off for the Duration of the stay, even though some days called for some AC. There are ceiling fans in each room that help with circulating the air a bit. There was a towel bar in the bathroom that was half hanging off the wall ( obviously broken, but left as is for our stay. A doorknob to one of the bathrooms came off in my daughters hand when she tried to open the bathroom door....small things like that. Cons 4)The loft is on the third floor, up a very long and intimidatingly steep flight of wooden steps. Not a big deal most of the time, but carrying bags of groceries or luggage up and down the steps is a chore. Families with very young kids may get nervous as the tall staircase is sturdy but less than childproof, and its a long way down to the ground. Con: 5) There was work being done on the house during the week that we were staying. Scaffolding was set up and it just didn't look like a place that was in its prime, ready for guests. Around the house itself there were lots of odds and ends/ construction materials/ old things that otherwise should have been in a storage unit. The feeling is that of a rural cabin as opposed to a "resort vacation rental". All in all we had a pleasant enough experience with the Maple Shade Villa and we made the best of the situation. Our team went 6-0 in the pool play, so everyone was in a good mood. However, if we had known the details of the loft at the beginning before we booked, I think some of the cons may have caused us to go elsewhere. This place has a lot of potential, it just needs some attention to the details noted above.
