Known for it's intriguing combinations, This store offers amazing Liqueurs, spirits, fortified wines, oils and vinegars for you to fill up and take home in whatever size bottle you need. I remember being stumped for good gift idea's for my manly man friend, but after talking to the friendly sales staff I got to take home white port in a bottle that had a GLASS SHIP IN IT. (Needless to say it's so boss it still resides on the kitchen counter.) With liqueurs ranging from mango melon, pineapple, rose, limoncello, cognac and walnut, AND melon (as well as a yummy chocolate vodka.) This place definitely has you spoiled for choice. Now is the season for yuletide giving and If you're stumped for a unique gift idea this place is great alternative to that giftcard you were guiltily thinking of buying.

And oh, what a place full of delightful, alcoholic things! But first there's the amazing oils (I don't cook, but even I was impressed). I totes wanted the Mandarin Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil to dress some of my Christmas Day salads with. Or perhaps even the Raspberry Caramelised Balsamic Vinegar to dip breads in? Then I realised that I was loitering right beside a huge bottle of chocolate Port. Yes, you read that right. It's Port and it's chocolate flavoured. You can even soak strawbs in it. Then there were the other amazing liquers, just ripe for adding into cocktails: watermelon, rose, mango, macadamia nut). I underestimated you, Liqurious. Respect.

I used to walk past this obscure retail space on Musgrave Road in Red Hill every morning and every…read moreafternoon on my way to and from work. It was this indie-looking bottle shop that unfortunately always seemed empty. Then on a recent drive past I noticed the indie-looking bottle shop had closed but there was an alluring 'Craft Coming Soon' sign in the window. Staying true to it's independent bottle shop roots, Tony Harper (wine writer and former-owner of Anise) and his team have refreshed this space to open a bottle shop with a difference. I don't even want to call it a bottle shop for the connotations it promotes. Gone are the standard "could get anywhere" bottles of wine, beer and spirits and instead shelves are adorned with hand-selected brews from Australia and afar with a focus on introducing some of the best natural, organic and biodynamic drinks to Brisbane's palates. I was fortunate enough to meet Tony and sample a few of his favourites during a Christmas degustation tour. We sipped on organic Jean-Paul Perardel champagne, an all natural first drop white wine which we all declared is a wine that can be "all things to all people", and a Natural Selection Red Wine. This red wine was the stand out for me. Not being a red wine drinker I automatically declined a taste of this wine which is touted as "a collaborative experiment in natural winemaking." At the insistance of the group I was with I relented and tried it. I'm glad I did. It was smooth, fresh-tasting and unlike any red wine I've had mainly because it is one I'd drink again. The point to all of the above is, whatever you're looking for the guys at Craft will undoubtably have something for the occasion and in the process will arm you with a world of knowledge about brewing practices, wine making and so much more. It is the kind of "local" that you'd walk in for one thing and come out with many more, yet that's the beauty of it. It isn't a mass-market store and to me, that is a part of its charm. And, if you're like me and geek out over packaging design, their range of wines with beautifully designed labels will give any dinner party host a beautiful gift!

Of recent times, Wine Experience has branched out and now has a carefully selected, interesting range of imported wines. I've noticed that their selection of imported wines seems to have a particular emphasis on French, Italian, and Spanish wines. I love a good Spanish rose so this suits me just fine. They do have wine from other areas, but there is a big bias towards those places. The staff are always helpful and generally knowledgable. Although, if I were after super expert advice and a willingness for a long consultation, I'l probably go to Wine Emporium first. Wine Experience is one of Brisbane's premier wine cellars and it's obvious that the people who run it have a passion for wine which is always nice to see in a bottle shop.

Well, the concept is pretty simple, they sell them in cleanskins! Before you start thinking of those $3 wine bottles tight-arses bring to parties, let me reassure you, these are not the same thing. Every cleanskin that is sold at 'Wine Experience' has been carefully selected from some of the finest wine regions around Australia and New Zealand so you know they must be good. Even though I am not the biggest wine coinnesseur, I do know my fair share of what to look for when wine shopping. This place stocks wines from regions such as Adelade Hills, Barossa Valley and Frankland River and all types of wine ranging from Tempranillo to Rieslings. These wine bottles cost between $8 to $15 and I am glad to say that every bottle of wine I have purchase here, I have enjoyed! Since most of the restaurants around Rosalie are BYO, buying wine from here and taking into the restaurant is something I like to do as it saves money a lot of money. The only downside is that you don't get a pretty picture on the front. For anyone who loves a good wine at a cheap price, I would recommend you check this place out!

The good thing about Spiros is that they ALWAYS have a special going on across various ranges, whether you're looking for a carton of boutique beer, a cheaper but quaffable wine, or something more special. Check out their website to sign up to their newsletter and keep abreast of their promotions. Staff will also walk up and greet you in a friendly manner when you walk into the store, in some cases probably because you're a little overwhelmed by all the different stands advertising different new wines as soon as you step inside. I probably wouldn't recommend this shop for someone looking to go out and get drunk as cheaply as possible. The main brands of generic beers (e.g. V.B., Hahn Super Dry, XXXX etc) are featured here but are more expensive by a dollar or two than a liquor barn. Back to the staff. They're awesome. I walked in here once looking for boxes (I was moving house) and not only did they provide me with some, they showed me where else at Paddington Central to find more. Stellar customer service!

Upon walking inside, there is a multitude of liquor, beer, wine and mainstream alcohol to be bought. The thing that suprised me, and I don't even drink, I was looking for a present for a house warming... was the array of Whiskey this tiny little shop had. They also provide... maybe a first for Brisbane... a free liquor delivery service to Brisbane CBD and the general metro area... unheard of! They also cater liquor to functions for work and what have you. Staff are really lovely and knowledgeable, and the place has been open for many many years so it holds history... smells a bit of history too... but not in a bad way. The staff also informed me that should I not be able to come into the store, they also have an online champagne gallery which will have a brilliant selection of fine champagne... delivered free! The champagnes aren't that cheap mind you, so I have a feeling they may have incorporated the 'free delivery' price into the price of the alcohol, but either way. This place is where you need to visit. Right next to the bar too. I'll definetely be checking out their online site... i'd never heard of one before!

At Grand Central Cellar, I simply tell the staff my price range and that I'm looking for a red that is sweet, not dry and tastes like blackcurrants. They get it right every time.
