Having only been in the area since June this shop, run by a six strong craft collective is a unique glimpse at the production of some beautiful products. I think it's the shop split in half that makes Fig such an enjoyable place to poke my head in: half the shop given to racks for gifts and cards and the other half to the in house artists. I asked the always friendly staff what it is that stood them out above the rest. They can't stress enough the importance of products being hand crafted, on the spot. They say it's a very refreshing and unique approach to their work. Pop in and see for yourself.

Made up of a small collective of local designers and artists, Fig is a fantastic place to go for gifts but also for inspiration to brighten up your own home. The felt embroidery of underwater scenes by Katy Tarling and quirky prints by Jane Orme are some of the highlights while the greeting cards are charming but at around £3 each are a little pricey. Although the listings on the website say this shop is only open Thursday to Saturday I recently popped in on a Monday morning so it's worth stopping by if you're in the area a the beginning of the week as opening hours may be changing.

You can pick up ready-made bouquets for about £20 or ask for something unique for any price. So if your friend hates roses and loves the colour yellow, then they can do a yellow rose-free bunch in a few minutes. I have bought flowers from here for gardeners and they have been impressed, which kinda says it all. Staff are really friendly and listen to what you are trying to explain, most importantly really excited about making something for you that works. They also deliver locally but, trust me, if you're a man walking down the street with flowers you will get a smile from all the ladies!

This is a wonderfully refreshing and vibrant florist right in the heart of the city centre. One of…read morethe most refreshing things about it is the service - a very personal touch from Ms Tomlinson herself who has built the business from scratch. It is her knowledge and dedication to the industry that really shines through in this wild pink and green floral bouquet of a store. This isn't a run-off-the-mill florist offering baskets of pre picked flowers and plants fit for a student's bedroom. On the contrary it is something very unique and different; a shop where specific types of flower are bought in and sold similarly specific. Bunches and bouquets can be arranged for any occasion from a christening, to a wedding, to a wake. Even if you're not sure what flowers would be best for what occasion, rest assured Tilly Tomlinson and her more than able staff will be happy to assist. A colourful, happy shop built with love and smelling oh so beautiful.
