The waterfalls we visited were stunning and we didn't see any other people on our hike. It felt like we were the only people in the forest. The walking was a little more challenging and slippery than I expected, but we did signup for an "adventurous off track bushwalk" and that's what we got. It was a real adventure! Even though it had been raining prior to the trip, the wetness wasn't a problem, and it added to the atmosphere. The waterfalls were all pumping. I'd recommend Wilderness Adventures.

I would suggest that this is a quiet beach, then again, considering that it happens to be in the middle of a national park, then that goes without saying. However, considering that it does tend to be popular with surfers, I probably wouldn't designate this as a place to go for a swim.

Wategos won hands down. The others were too busy. I happened to get lucky and my beach day was the first day of sun & warmth after weeks of rain. Due to this, the beach was quite crowded. Wategos provided ample sand to find a spot so that was a plus. Truth be told, any of the beaches along the path are gorgeous but for something a little more low key, I recommend Wategos or little Wategos.

As you start on the trail look up in the trees and you might spot a koala. They are pretty high up, but visible. Head through the rain forest terrains up a very nice steep trail that is well maintained. You will come to many picturesque spots with spectacular views of the sea it's splendid! The light house itself is beautiful. Sitting high upon a lookout its white gleaming features remind me of Greece. There are also trails down to the rocky beach area where there are crashing waves and tide pools. Very cool hike/ walk.

Yes, the social life is fun, the beaches…read moreare gorgeous and the weather is warm, but I think the walk really wins as my favourite Byron Bay activity. The walk can be configured in different ways, but basically it weaves its way down to Wategos Beach, then up to the eastern-most point of Australia, and then around to the Cape Byron lighthouse, then down through some gorgeous bushland, in a sort of loop. Or you can do it the other way around. It's definitely run-able, although some sections are steep and full of steps, so often everyone but the most fit athletes are reduced to walking... One of the things I love about this walk (apart from how gorgeous the vistas are...) is the steep up and down nature of it all. Steep climbs and descents, varied terrain, from open and in the sun, to hidden in the trees. How long it takes is entirely up to you. I started the walk as a jog - on the other side of town, and then did a sort of run-walk, circling back. That took about 75 minutes. Unfortunately most of the walk is not wheelchair accessible, and it can be pretty rough if you have bad knees.

The lake itself is a natural lake, the stunning part is that the trees surrounding the lake have seeped their oils into the water making the water coco-cola coloured and thus the locals refer to it as the coco-cola lake. Extremely safe for swimming and mucking about in the water. Bring along a surf ski or a stand up paddle board and have a paddle. The water is cool and there's plenty of shade along the shore. Only down side is that the park is an alcohol free zone until March this year. Unsure why. Definitely go and check this stunning place out.

Well, not quite because there is a sort of person that seems to like this particular beach, and they are probably the young, or the young at heart. As for me, well, I wouldn't necessarily consider it to me one of those beaches that really grabs my attention. I was okay, but then again I'm not really a beachy sort of person.

Byron Bay . . . how long have you got?…read more Depending on who you ask, Byron is either Heaven, or Heaven. Everyone loves it sick, bro, in fact there's very little not to like. The backpackers? The prices? Yes, and sure, but compared to avalanche of good things about this place, these pale into insignificance. Now, I'm a beach-goer of some 30-odd years experience, and this might very well be the most epic and welcoming beach in Australia. Split by a rock wall there's one huge flat swimmers paradise to the right, and to the left a shipwreck and a surfing Valhalla. Don't even get me started on Wategos. Sit on the grassy hill and watch the giant martian moon come up after sunset and hang over the beach like a glowing spaceship. Sip wine. Strum a guitar. Smoke bongs. Whatever your pleasure, it's pretty much game on at Byron. Love. Love love love. In the words of an American colleague in her truly awful Australian accent: "Bist ivva!"

This is one of those great parks that you can spend some time wandering around in the morning, even…read morea chilly winters morning. Sure, it is a conservation park, meaning that you have to stick to the paths, but the trek around the cape is actually quite exhilarating, especially some of the views you have along the coast. There is even a lighthouse, as well as Australia's most easterly mainland point, which is also pretty cool. In fact, it seems that quite a few people take this walk in the morning, at least from what I could see.

Whether you're a local or a tourist, stopping by Cape Byron Lighthouse is a must do. Park your car…read morein one of the parking lots at the top of the hill for a small price (pay at machines) and walk on over towards the lighthouse. As you walk up, you will be treated to stunning views of the coast and once you reach the lighthouse, a great photo op! Behind the lighthouse are multiple trails that wind down the hill towards small secluded empty beaches. If you're lucky enough and it's a beautiful clear day, you'll be able to spot whales and dolphins! We were lucky to catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins nearby. As I walked through the trails, I was also able to spot a wallaby hiding in the brush and get some good pictures while being at a respectable distance and still on the trail. One of my favorite memories from my last trip.

And what a beach - beautiful Byron Bay is absolutely gorgeous. Soft white sand and pristine beaches. We started camping here back in the 90s and LOVED our camp spot with an uninterrupted view overlooking the beach - I reckon it had to be THE BEST camp spot in the world! Those windy days and nights made us feel like we were on a boat with our sail like tent in full billow. Then First Sun went up-market and changed its name from humble caravan park to First Sun Holiday park when it built it's luxury beachfront cabins. When the part told us our beachfront camping spot would be turned into a community park BBQ area we were horrified. Oh no - what will we do for our holidays now? But we were offered first shot of the luxury cabins overlooking the beach so we thought we'd give it a go. OK, it was a financial stretch beyond our camping spot - but still, compared with the holiday houses we rented for a couple of years around Byron before we found our idyllic camping spot - this was a bargain! The thing we love about First Sun beachfront luxury cabins are: 50 footsteps to the beach, nice and quiet, listen to the surf all day and all night, lovely sea breezes all day and all night, it's a very short stroll to the town and you can go via the beach or via the town centre. Feel like an espresso? or a gelato, a kebab, a tofu and vegetable pie, a drink or a great meal at three of Byron's fabulous pubs? It's all a short walk away. Right in the heart of the action yet lovely and peaceful with only the sounds of the waves and the birds. First Sun Holiday Park at Byron Bay has a full community kitchen, where you can meet up with friendly travelers from around the world - and it's always fun trying to guess where their accent is from. We've met some awesome people here at First Sun. Plus there are cabins, caravan sites, camping sites and also dorms too with shared bathroom facilities.
