Good tunes as I spent a couple of days between Niagara and London with limited Internet in some places but plenty of FM. "Take the Money and Run" by the Steve Miller Band "Somebody's Out There" by Triumph "Livin' On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi "Teacher Teacher" by .38 Special "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield Commercials are often but the breaks are short with lots of local. I grew up in Buffalo. Many of the things I remember: when…read morechannel 2 was actually CBS (before that moved to channel 4), Freddies Donuts (long before Paula was born), Parkside Candies on Main and W Oakwood (the original location, made an appearance in "The Natural") peppermint ice cream sundays at HoJo in Niagara Falls when Main street was still drivable before the subway, just to name a few, are long gone. Some are even making a return now (drivable Main Street). Like fashion, some things just cycle. When I went to college in New England I did not know that my music tastes were "fashion forward" for many. I had that Canadian music influence of course, an uncle (black sheep) who went to Woodstock, had been to jazz festivals in many places and had a brother who was in a garage band (but then who didn't in Buffalo?). But many people I went to college with had not had any of these influences, or even a radio station that played anything other than country. Starting those drives home for the Holidays, I could tell you the moment various local radio stations (including Canadian ones) would come into tune on the NYS thruway. Then I moved to NYC. And started driving home again. And I knew when the stations came into tune from Rt 17. I wanted to hear that "Buffalo Music". We are a Hard Rock Town I have been told. I can't validate that. As a total news and politics junkie, I listen to Sirius radio news and politics stations now. But in Buffalo I'm happy to hear Styx, Genesis, The Who, Queen, even some Zeppelin at times. Coming back into Buffalo every holiday, and many other weekends, meant tuning into 97-Rock to see what was playing. I still do it now that I'm back. Singing along to those old familiar songs is a part of Buffalo for me. All this being said, I thought I was the "only one". Then my brother came to visit and the first thing he did at the airport was tune the radio to 97 Rock. He basically said what I just said, coming home means those oldies, comfortable like a favorite pair of jeans. That was about 5 years ago now. Then I went to an "Expat Buffalo" gathering in NYC. Other than the Bills and Sabres, the music choices & radio stations here were covered. Hilarious. Before wings and Molson, people talked about the radio stations they missed, the music they heard in Buffalo that they never hear on the radio anywhere else. I still don't listen to the radio often, but when I do, its only in Buffalo, and often 97 Rock. So 97 Rock is "a little bit Buffalo" to me, up there with Niagara Falls, FLW structures, Olmstead Parks, more than wings, beef on weck, sponge candy, and the Erie County Fair. That's why its my 1000 review for Yelp.

I went and bought the 20 ribeyes for $40 that 97 Rock advertised at trailer supply in Lockport and…read morewas disappointed. They were only about a quarter inch thick and I was talked in to buying other meat and ended up spending $450. So far the only thing that was good in the box was the hamburgers. The T-bones looked good. I haven't tried them yet but everything else was terrible.

A good mix of new stuff, old stuff, and every genre you could imagine. I loved it. AND their signal stretched all the way to Fredonia, NY and all the way up to Niagara on the Lake, ON. And they played a song that I had never heard but really liked, and I was able to go to their website and find it easily on their playlist. STAR 102.5, thank you for keeping me entertained on my long, boring drives whilst in Buffalo.

This is by far the best and the only local station in Fort Erie…read more It has the best live hosts and is the only station that caters to the Fort Erie Region with local talk, news, weather, traffic and community events. They also care about the community and do a lot of work with promoting and helping raise funds and awareness for local charities. The Morning Show with Jones & Tyrell M-F 6am to10am and Middays with Steve Simkus M-F 10am to 2pm are the best!
