This wide promenade (a rarity in Venice!) was originally built as a landing spot for timber in the 1500's. These days you can see Venetians running along the zattere or people sitting on benches enjoying the view of the outlying islands. You'll also pass by a lot of government owned offices (i.e. French embassy) or see people having lunches at one of the floating restaurants along the promenade. At its most eastern point where the Grand Canal and the Guidecca meet, you can view Piazza San Marco and also visit Punta della Dogana, a former customs office which now houses contemporary art.

I told her I was interested in buying the hat and not once did she tell me she needed to take it down for me to buy it. I tried to take the hat down and for some reason a glass necklace and sunglasses were hanging on the hat so they both fell. A piece of the necklace broke and the lady yelled at me and demanded I bought the $30 necklace. Monica was awful! She not only was extremely rude to me but rude to other customers who were interested in buying things!! There are plenty of other stores to go to so do not go to this one.

wow, what a flat in an old building …read more.. not cheap but really in the heart of San Marco, close to all important destinations by foot. you will be collected from the next vaparetto station by the manager. Our room was great (not only high) with all the helpful things of a holiday apartment, with view to the patio and rescue service for the mosquitoes in the summer. Around the house is a restaturant for lunch or dinner. Two night in Venice to see and feel many of the interseting things by day and night and there was no hurry to get the last vapareto and train away from the island.
