Chocolate with 'churros' small, length of a doughnut-like pastry is a traditional Catalan way to start the day, and different cafes vie with each other to sell the best chocolate. The drinking chocolate here is hard to beat it's delicious, not too sweet, and so thick it is more of a dark chocolate custard than a drink. They also sell an extensive range of sweet and savoury pastries and salads here, making it a popular venue for a light lunch. As well as a large pavement seating area at the front, there is a series of interior rooms, including a lovely conservatory and a small, secluded rear garden, complete with a small grotto and pond, home to some friendly terrapins. The interior is a good example of the Catalan 'Modernista' movement, whose best known exponent is Gaudi. It's decorated with colourful art nouveau motifs, and the colourful, Moorish-influenced tiling associated with Spain.

Beyond the lure of terrace seating, it has the added convenience of being open from 8:30AM to midnight and 2AM on weekends. I can't believe I forgot to take pictures in this last trip to my hometown! Definitively one of the…read morebest and oldest coffee shops in town. It used to be a store where you go and buy coffee in bulk to brew at home (back when there were no Starbucks, not that there is one in my native town!). People decades back brew a lot of coffee at home instead of having the cafelito in the terraces in downtown, so this was a classic place to go and get 'Cafe Pont' one of the most beloved brands. With the time the many decades old coffee store has expanded and got hipsterized so to speak. Very lovely and cozy.
