We wanted to show the kid Caddo lake so we drove from Dallas to do a tour with Captain Ron…read more Ron is a down home friendly guy who obviously loves people, his job, and Caddo lake. During the 90 minute boat tour, he was enthusiastic and passionate about the lake. He really seemed to enjoy sharing his immense knowledge the lake, both real and legend. I learned a lot and he made the tour very interesting. The day we went it was a bit chilly and overcast. It had just rained so the lake water was muddy, and therefore we did not see much wildlife, just a busy beaver and some blue herons. You can go during the summer when the water is clearer and see turtles and dragon flies. During the summer, the climate is much hotter and humid and there is little air flow on the lake, so be prepared to sweat. Cool and overcast actually was preferable IMO. The wife and I had toured the lake about a decade ago and we left from the northern part of the lake. Our opinion is that despite the fact that Captain Ron did a great job, the northern part of the lake is more interesting than the southern part where Captain Ron is now located.

Floors and showers have not been cleaned in weeks and there is probably half an inch of dead bugs on the outside patio. Your feet crunch all the way in. Plus the outside doors do not lock and the bathroom and shower stall doors can't be locked either. Also, eliminating some of the signs at the entrance would afford a more welcoming atmosphere for campers. It's like a slap in the face when you drive in! Great fishing, lots of room, trails, beach, boat launches but hardly anyone here . This place could be a great campground and a really moneymaker if someone with experience would pay attention to some of these details and make some pretty simple changes.

We volunteer 24 hours a week for a couple. The bass fishing is phenomenal and the catfish are said to be the best eating anywhere in the US. I have stated in Rocky Point and Clear Sorings parks as well and for a senior pass holder at $19 per day you can't beat it. The park hosts a great to deal with and all bathrooms and sites are up to par. Malden park is my favorite spot for fishing because of its location and crappie fishing. The rangers are responsive to needs when an issue occurs. They have many pavilions for day use. We rented one for a church function and it was a huge success. The cost was $20 for the day. There is a working dam that keeps the water at required levels that anyone can request a tour of. If I were in this area I'd make this a 3-7 day stop. Texarkana has many historic sites to visit that takes about a day. Rodeo and church are big in this area. By the way it's a corps of engineers park, one of many we use regularly because of the low per night cost and all the amenities. And the sunsets! Nice hiking trail when it is dry. You may see deer and other wildlife. This is a great park for younger children's first hiking experience. This is definitely a hidden gem in the city.

I knew I…read morewanted to explore Caddo Lake and had originally planned to kayak, but given the weather and the expectation of rain we decided it's better to have someone explain the history and rich landscape to us while we relax (and hope it doesn't rain). Overall experience was superb! Starting from our call, we didn't book ahead of time but they were able to get us a boat tour in an hour. Upon arriving, they greeted us kindly with a warm welcome. Our boated tour did last an hour, with the tour guide entertaining my stepdad with fun facts about the lake and its inhabitants. We were told that gators are rare to see especially during the day. And yet throughout our trip, we saw multiple great egrets, blue herons, one gator, and one ratsnake! We were astonished at how much wildlife we observed. The trip lasted an hour. It poured rain about 20 minutes after the tour ended. Truthfully had we postponed it, it could've ruined my Caddo Lake experience. I'm really glad the timing worked so well for us!
