Given the season and weather, I was only one of two tables. The table was already filled with appetizers, but don't worry, you just select the ones you want to keep and they remove the others. I tried the sautéed mushrooms and the baked veal dish with chestnuts. Sauce and seasoning was delicious. Most of the meat was very tender although there were a few tough pieces. The chestnuts and potatoes were a nice combo. Also came with small side salad. Take note they don't have wines by the glass , so given that I was alone , I instead opted for a beer. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Nice music in the background. Great choice for traditional regional food.

A friend had the stewed pork and is was tender and super tasty. The appetizers included olives from the Evora region, thin slices of Iberian ham, marinated mushrooms, cheese, toast, jam combo, marinated sliced spicy bell pepper. The drinks were amazing and ever flowing as our friend/host is local and knows the owner. I had the 40% alcohol local drink. The customer service is outstanding. Food preparation and plating was exceptional. The taste of the my dish, Iberian Black Pork was mouth savoring and delicious. The restaurant is small and great for intimate setting. It has a great family ambiance. The food and customer service is exemplary and we will be back again.

The tables are nicely set and well spaced so you can have a good conversation with your companion. This was the 1st restaurant we tried during our month's vacation and it is undoubtedly one of the best. The dining room had a nice warmth and coziness to it. They were very busy the evening that we were there but the service was very good. There is a huge couvert on the table when we were seated. We declined the couvert as there was simply too much food on it. I had the roast suckling pork and it definitely lived up to expectations. The skin was nice and crispy but the pork itself was so tender, moist and full of flavour. It's one of the best dishes that I've ever had. My husband had lamb shank and he was as impressed with his meal as I was with mine. We had a 1/2 bottle of wine with our meal and we finished with a mango dessert that had a shortbread crust. At the end of our meal a gentleman (I think he may be the owner) asked if we had enjoyed our meal. During the course of the evening we were talking to another couple who had come to the restaurant a few times during their time in Evora. We were talking about port wine and we mentioned that my husband likes the tawney port but I preferred the ruby port. The gentleman who asked how our meal was gave my husband a tawney port and myself a ruby port. What a great start to our vacation Highly recommended

The first time we went, I was a little surprised they didn't bring us any sauce. One bite and it felt like asking for sauce would be an insult to the chef. The meat was seasoned perfectly, and it was wonderfully juicy, tender without being mushy, as may happen to suckling pigs. Our waitress was nice enough to subsitute the potato chips with salad, as we are a bit potato'ed out with all thte Portuguese food. The salad came out more colorful than we expected. The second time we went, the waiter brought along some sauce. It was not a black pepper sauce, but mildly spicy. Beside the suckling pig, we tried other dishes from the menu - there's actually quite a good selection. The roated goat and duck rice are both quite delicious as well. The portions are quite substantial. A very important note: there was quite a spread of couvert (starters) at the table, from bread to sliced ham to other warm and cold appetizers. Do note that these are not free - the waiter did ask us which one we would like. The prices for all couvert are listed in the menu, they do cost around 5-7 Euro each, so if you want them all, even if it's just a few bites, it could add up to a pretty penny. Beware of this - couvert is very common in Portuguese restaurants - and don't complain of scams or rip off. For us, we checked the price and let the waiter know which one to keep and which to take away (another reason why we usually turn down couvert - I don't have a good clue if the dish has done more travellng than I did, and would rather order something to be cooked for me.) This is a relatively fancy restuarant, customers seems to dress up and we felt a bit underdressed in ourvery casual travel clothes, though the waitstaff still treated us nicely.

Yes, the owner/chef is opinionated about how he prepares items, but the food and tastes were so, so very good. We started out sharing a large strawberry/apple salad that was exquisite, and I'm not a huge fan of salads. Next, I insisted that we try the mushrooms with balsamic and chocolate. Incredible! For our mains, my wife enjoyed a thin slice of steamed salmon steak, while I had a thin filet of sea bass poached in Champagne. The serving sizes were small, but the accompanying veggie tray was incredible. It had been challenging to get fresh veggies at dinner, and here we ate more and a wider variety than we had eaten since we arrived. Lots of herbs, with very little salt, which is how we prefer our food. Alentejo wines by the glass were lovely (though I prefer Douro and Dão reds myself). We had a lovely meal in an intimate setting (we put on a Sinatra LP). Definitely a treat dinner.

We enjoyed Jorge, the owner, but we understand he could be over the top for some. For us he was an added benefit. The wines were very good, and mine was the first red on this trip that wasn't too hot. Kudos to our delightful server, too. She explained the creative parts of our meals very well and was professionally attentive all evening. Heads up: this is not inexpensive mass-produced Portuguese food. It's pricey if you have all the courses and wine.
