I think she may have said she would bring menus over because she came right after us with some menus. Fair enough. The breakfast menu was pretty standard with your full breakfasts, your full veggie breakfasts, your eggs, omelets and a range of fresh juices, sodas, coffees and teas. We all ordered the full Manchester, which was basically a full English, and my bestfriend, who is vegetarian, ordered a cheese omelet, a hash brown and some toast. We pretty much all received what we were expecting in a fry up, except for one thing. We weren't asked how we wanted our eggs and it didn't even dawn on any of us until we got our eggs and they were poached. I'm not a fan of poached eggs, but I ate it anyway. My bestfriends girlfriend on the other hand, wasn't a fan and pushed it to the side. I felt bad, it being her first experience with a fry up. I was pretty impressed, she tried the blood sausage and didn't revolt. All in all, the food was pretty standard and the service was ok. The grilled chicken sandwich is definitely to be tried, as is the lasagna. Cafe Metro is a seat-yourself, pay-your-waitress-or-at-the-till, eat-with-your-friends-or-dine-alone casual café on two floors, with large windows on the ground floor for people-watching. The chips are delicous golden, crisp, logs cooked to perfection, apparently cooked using fresh oil very day. The breakfasts are also very good. They serve very good coffee. The prices are very cheap. Anyway, as a recent resident of Sale I decided to have a look inside Serendipitea - the name alone had me sold. Stepping in from the hustle of Washway Road it's an oasis of calm in there, sleek, clean yet homely. The owner was incredibly welcoming and we got to chatting, they've been open 10 months and business has been good. Whilst I was in there a steady stream of customers came in, some ordered and stayed, some ordered and took out. At first I was only feeling like a hot brew, so opted for an Earl Grey which was from Stash Tea Company - it tasted delicious, not had a tea hit me in such a satisfying way in a long time. Anyway, after that I decided to grab a light bite as well so went for their scrambled eggs on brown toast. It was absolutely delicious. They have an all day breakfast menu which I'd definitely be trying again more thoroughly. They also have freshly prepared baguettes, paninis, jacket potatoes - and cake. I've found my Central Perk.

It was chilly by the door so we tucked ourselves away in a corner - obviously with a quick look at the counter beforehand so we could see what was on offer! There's a rotating menu of salads, soups, frittatas and cakes and made fresh on the day. Eschewing my usual dependence on meat and carbs, I ordered the salad plate, with the 3 salads of the day and a small hunk of brown bread; carbs are too good to pass up altogether. The salads were red cabbage with grapefruit, which was an unusual combination in my head but tasted delicious and gave the cabbage a tartness; sesame green beans, with a perfect bite; and butternut squash wedges. I felt surprisingly full afterwards and am glad I resisted the lure of the cake for dessert! The other half's cauliflower, coconut and chilli soup was really delicious and perfect for the true winter weather we were experiencing. It was a much lighter consistency than I expected and had a great hit of chilli that wasn't too overpowering. Needless to say, I had plenty of food envy, though my colourful plate was more attractive to the eye. Service was quick and friendly, and as unique as ever. The Craft & Design Centre has a great thing going with this cafe and I hope it continues to attract people to this gem of a building.

Talk about delightful. Nestled cosily in the beautiful Craft and Design Centre in the Northern Quarter, it's the sort of place you could lunch with a friend, come for a quick pitstop coffee while you're present-shopping, grab a cheeky slice of cake or even bring your mum. Which I did! We had a great lunch here whilst listening to one of the Craft and Design Centre coordinators fetch some stories from elderly gents who used to work at the building back when it was a fish market. It was fascinating. They had a special code they used to speak in too. It's easy to forget the history of this place, so try not to! Check de photographs - our lunch was tasty. Baked falafel, salad, frittata and some really nice coffees, plus the cakes looked pretty amazing too. It was all at a reasonable price with superb flavours and a really unique atmosphere. Who can complain? Just a star lost for the Craft and Design Centre having wifi but the Oak Street Café not giving away the password. I gots to work when I eat!

Food was good in quality and tasted nice, also arrived very quickly, however it was £14 for that lot so definitely on the expensive side for a town centre cafe. Overall - a good location for a quick lunch, but not if you're looking for a nice relaxing cuppa with a good view. I guess it does what it says on the tin - a good solid safe in the town centre.
