This is a review about service not quality of food. We arrived at 8:30pm and the restaurant closes at 9:00pm. Ordered the Moqueca de Palmito (vegan) and The Redeemer. The waitress informed me that the Moqueca would take 20 minutes which I said I didn't mind waiting for. I asked for the Redeemer to be made with only chickpeas instead of black beans. The waitress informed me this item is "prepared ahead of time" and substitutions could not be made. I said that was no problem. She then comes back out and states "there is no more prepared". I say that's fine I will just have another curry but make sure it's vegan. About 5-10 minutes later she returns with our food. Unfortunately it was 2 Redeemer bowls. There was a miscommunication, I thought the redeemer bowl was out of stock but it was actually the curry. The waitress really upset me with her attitude. She was frustrated speaking to the manager behind the bar and I could hear her. Instead of the manager solely coming to talk with me about what happened she brings the waitress with her. Just an uncomfortable situation all together. The manager states they really shouldn't be taking any food back because there was "nothing wrong with the food". I know I never would have ordered my significant other the redeemer due to allergy. In the end we took home and paid for one bowl and returned the other. Can't tell you how the food was because I was too shut off to try it. The kitchen was closed so we couldn't order another meal so we went to another restaurant close by to salvage the evening. read more

Kudos to Yelpers for helping me find this place on my long road trip across the country! Little Rock was hardly a stopping point but as we left Oklahoma City and traveled to Memphis, this was a perfect spot to stop for dinner. Tucked in the quaint Hillcrest neighborhood, I was impressed immediately as we approached the restaurant, two ladies speaking Portuguese walked by. That's a clear indicator of food authenticity! The setting was nice but not stuffy, the service was very friendly. The food was delicious. The bartender made an excellent strawberry caipirinha (hmmm Leblon!) with freshly muddled fruit and mint! I had the bolos de salmao (salmon patties) and tried some of the special beef dish (Picadinho I think) that had a wonderful creamy sauce with the sweet taste of raisins. My wife and I looked this up on yelp. we were just looking for some coffee and to relax with each other and enjoy each other's company while we drink the coffee but we ended up running into an old friend. She went with us there and we stayed there for about an hour and a half. we talked a long time and the server came around twice before we finally ordered coffee and we drank the coffee for a few minutes more when they came around to ask If we had decided on an entrée, we haven't even looked at the menu yet we were so engrossed in our conversation. I ordered what I thought was a salad with a side order of soup, but I was mistaken, and it was a cup of soup with what seemed like a slice very small slice of pizza which cost me $19 my wife ordered coffee and our friend ordered ordered I think a simple chicken soup. I never looked at the menu prices before we went there. We just saw that they were reviewed as a coffee shop. The atmosphere was very nice and pleasant and quiet. We even sat near the front door, and the service was respectful, but kind of rushed. The food was OK. The coffee was excellent. I like trying new things and I don't think I'd had anything in this menu before. I got there around 730P on a Wednesday night. I was the only person in the front dining room and there was a party of at least 8 in the back room. The main thing I went for was the chicken stroganoff but I also wanted to try a variety since nothing on the menu looked familiar. There is a soup on the menu that is essentially the same thing as the stroganoff. I got a cup of the soup, an order of coxinhas and the Rosalina balls. The soup was really good. I'm pretty sure it was shredded chicken in a cream base with spices. The guts of the coxinhas might have been the same thing as the soup. It was then wrapped in mashed potatoes (probably yucca) and deep fried. They weren't bad but I think I would have rather gotten a bowl of the soup instead of a cup and the coxinhas. The coxinhas might have been better if the outside was a little more crispy. They were definitely cooked all the way through but they weren't crunchy enough to hold together. They pretty much fell apart when I picked them up. They were also served with a small amount of hot sauce to add some flavor. The Rosalina balls weren't anything special. I knew they were vegan when I ordered them but I wanted to give them a try anyways. It seemed like puréed cauliflower mixed with chopped sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds were there for texture. The glaze the balls were topped with was primary flavor profile since the rest of the dish didn't taste like much. I'd be willing to give Cafe Bossa Nova another shot. I'll probably try some other places around town first. read more

I know , I know. of all the dishes in all of Brazilian cuisine with Pão de Queijo, Salpicão and Picanha na Tábua. This should be a review of the most popular dishes but here's my thoughts. If your a Brazilian restaurant and put something on the menu that's a cross between Brazilian and Italian. Then it better be great. So with much anticipation, I chose the Scallopini de Frango. This dish can be done many ways. The chicken was prepared well. Nice lemon finish and the creamy sauce did not over power everything. I prefer pencil thin asparagus so wasn't pleased but they were grilled which I do like. All in all only ok. I redeemed myself by ordering the Coxinhas. This comes as 2 croquettes which consist of deep fried chicken dumplings, made with unbleached flour, potato, chicken breast, Catupiry cheese, fresh herbs and spices, served with spicy piri-piri sauce. Very good dish but beware the sauce is not for beginners. There's plenty of dishes to try so explore the menu and go for the authentic!!! read more

I've been coming to Bossa Nova my for over a decade or two now. It's been a Little Rock restaurant landmark. The menu hasn't changed a lot either which makes going back never overwhelming. I love their cheese bread and salmon cakes for an appetizer. For dinner, hands down my favorite is the stroganoff! They love hearts of palm here and this dish has plenty of them. It's a must try and top it off with the FOUR layer Delight for desert. This is probably my all time favorite desert. I order this pie for birthdays and holidays from the Bakery next door. The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is it can get pricy fast so be careful. read more

I went there because the menu looks good on paper and I'm Brasilian. I ordered my favorite meat. Picanha is a well known meat in Brasil. When you cook picanha, you must leave the fat on in order to get that distinctive flavor. For some ungodly reason this restaurant decided it was a good idea to remove the fat. Big mistake as it makes the meat chewy and flavorless. It's like eating a birthday cake without the icing. The owners need to learn how to make and serve picanha. If you are used to going to a Brasilian steak house here in the US or have been to Brasil do not order this dish. You will be disappointed. They also used some bad salt for the picanha. You need to use sea salt or "rock salt". I am not doing this out of anger but with the hopes they learn how to not screw up picanha. read more
