The sausage itself was yummy and the relish was good, but the balance of flavours was ruined by too much rocket leaves. We also shared a cronut: I like cronuts but this one was made cloyingly sweet by a topping of sugar icing. Too bad. Is it me? Are the flavours suited for a different taste? I really wanted to like this place. I'm hoping it was just an off-day. Aside from the food, the service was great. Staff were friendly. Their EFTPOS machine was unavailable so the manager just trusted me to pay later, which I did. Afterwards, we made a quick trip to the nearby market, and drove to the new ferry terminal for a look-see. These extra attractions made the journey nearly worth it.

And what a shame it would have been to miss out on this little gem! As I tend to do every time I go out for breakfast, when I went to Catalina I ordered the 'big breakfast'. Poached eggs, sausages, tomato, homemade relish, mushrooms, hash browns, crunchy buttery toast - it was the perfect way to start my morning. But what made it even better was the delicious berry smoothie I coupled with it. I highly recommend both these options, and according to my coffee connoisseur of a boyfriend, their coffee is pretty good too. The outdoor area of Catalina is beautiful - really spacious with big umbrellas and a courtyard, it's the perfect place to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, or even a cold wine in the late afternoon. Tip: Every Saturday and Sunday farmer's markets are held in the park right next to Catalina, where great knick knacks and curios can be purchased for a bargain

He noted the nest was a bit difficult to eat with a fork and knife. Everything was beautifully presented, and the coffee was lovely. Double shot on the espresso drinks standard, as it should be! The atmosphere was very nice. Couple of tables out front perfect for a sunny day and plenty of tables indoors. It's a small place but it's a bit out of the way and we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes to sit. So many interesting options to choose from - I can't wait to go back and try the banana rice with salted coconut cream and lychees! Sounds incredible!! 'The Russian', which I ordered, was essentially salmon and cream cheese w toast but they served the salmon as a tartare with dill and the cream cheese was full of herbs. Combine this on the lightly seeded toast with a squeeze of lemon juice and some avo and I was in heaven. The décor is a little bit different. They've used dark wood and loads of dark, leafy greenery and with a big Persian rug taking centre stage in the middle of the floor. I loved it but I will admit, it did was rather dark inside despite being gloriously sunny out! I'm normally more of a savoury kid at breakfast but having seen some of the sweet dishes come out of the kitchen i'm already looking for an excuse to head back here ASAP!

And same sausage problem. His toast was not only dry but rock hard. The eggs tasted....odd. Almost no flavour. You'll be hard pressed to find me spending another $60 here. The cafe itself is not very large, but they still seem to be able to fit a lot of us in. Just don't expect to have loads of time to chill after eating, as you can feel bad for the people waiting! I like how they provide you water when you arrive, and I generally like the service that the staff provide us. They seem to all enjoy working there. The food is a bit funky, as in they are usually relatively common meals but with a bit of a twist, to keep you on your toes. I quite enjoy the pumpkin omelette with a side of potato gratin. They have both gluten free and vegetarian options available. An outside table works well for people who come along with their doggos - not nice during bad weather, but most of the time it's lovely to be outside and have the option of bringing your dog (i.e. good pit stop on a walk for example). It's not crazy expensive, as well. Not cheap, either, but I'd say it was about average breakfast prices. Will definitely be going back!

Having spent next to no time in the area, I was stoked to find C&G, and even more stoked when I walked in and saw they use Kokako beans. I usually prefer such accompaniments on my bagel, undressed, but with the generous amount of salmon and C.C already on there I totally forgot about it. Also, they mix fresh herbs through their cream cheese - big tick in my book. Perhaps, what stood for me the most though, was the service. Just little things - like the barista chatting to me while she made my coffee, bringing over water as soon as I sat down or asking how my meal was part way through - sometimes it's just the little things that make all the difference.
