Happened upon this cute cafe while out for Sunday Funday. We got there towards the end of the brunch service and the place was still packed. We were able to squeeze into a table and order lunch. There is no hard alcohol but they did have some tasty mimosas on the menu that we enjoyed. The boys would have liked Bloody Mary's but hey, gotta go with the flow. I ordered the French Dip and a side of fried cheese curds and they were both delicious! There was a ton of meat on a crispy and chewy bun served with a delicious ajou sauce. The cheese curds were tiny bites of fried cheese perfection and served with a side of really good ranch. If you are in the area would highly recommended stopping by. read more

One worker in particular who flitted around finding employees to whisper to or sat at the bar snapping coworkers with a rubber hairband. Our kids had went there and had a wonderful experience. We drove over an hour from our home to eat there with company and it was all absolutely excellent. We aren't ones to drive to a restaurant an hour away from being in the Midwest, but this was so delicious we made a special trip all based around going to this restaurant again. Sorry to say six of us were all very sad with our meals. It sounded like there was a good reason for this as evidently Something was going on that the restaurant was left with two new cooks. I guess the only way all of us would be going back as if we called to make sure the owner which is an amazing chef was working. I would've given five stars for the first two times we all ate there but the third time I would give it a one or zero if possible. Café Brulé is a good cafe to stop by in Vermillion,SD. When you tell them you have a gluten allergy they add an extra 20% charge to your food item but they use new utensils and pans which is great. Their gluten free bread is thick which isn't my favorite for sandwiches but I like that they have the option. I got the hot beef sandwich with the beehive latte and the other time got salmon with balsamic glaze with potatoes brûlée. The beehive latte was amazing and their spring special. I enjoyed both the entrees I tried of the hot beef and salmon. The potatoes brûlée was rich but good and cheesy. It is a fun place to try a lot of gluten free items and get some comfort food. Such a cute place, and they have a little bit of everything. I've only ever been for lunch. I think the prices are a *tad* high for sandwiches and salads, but it is a college town. I got an amazing cold brew iced coffee. Grilled cheese I had today was good, but they use just regular Hidden Valley ranch. Isn't anything great. I also got fruit today and it was warm. I'm not a fan of warm fruit. Great service and I'll be back to try more and more on the menu. They really do have a little bit of everything. read more

When visiting Vermillion, we stopped in at Cafe Brule. We had heard that the breakfast menu was pretty decent. We walked in and were sat at a table and our waitress came by to take our order. Unfortunately, we were just seated and hadn't looked over our menu yet. This seemed to perturb her a little bit, but she left and came back a few minutes later. Again, we were undecided as to what we wanted and she left out a heavy sigh and left again. This kind of put us off, but figured maybe she was having a bad day. When she returned to take our order the third time, she huffed at us and we placed our order. By this time we were really put off. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict with a side of salsa and Tabasco, she ordered one of the scramblers and the potatoes brule. My Benedict was cold and the English muffin was not toasted. Her potatoes brule was bland and could have used some salt or some spice. We are not ones to return our food or even complain. We just eat , pay and never return as repeat customers. Our experience here, did not reflect in what we saw with the other patrons. People generally seemed to enjoy their meal. Unfortunately we did not. Nor did we really appreciate how our server acted towards us. We do really like Vermilion, but will not return to Cafe Brule. read more

My mother and I were out and about exploring SE SD and decided to stop in for lunch. We were seated immediately, had a WONDERFUL server named Payton. She was prompt, friendly and attentive. We saw many folx come in and be seated, order and receive their food after us. We waited for our lunch for 45 minutes. Only to receive a mediocre tasting sandwich and mac and cheese. The owner was milling around greeting all the regulars and flirting with the old ladies. Never once stopping by to apologize for the delay or even acknowledge the situation. We opted to pass on the desserts after our experience and not wanting to contribute any more money to the owner. Upon leaving and exploring a bit more of downtown. I was nearly run over in a cross walk by none other than.. the owner. I was not surprised in the least. And again, he was not apologetic in the least. read more

For coffees I love that they have so many options for alternative milks, so many places don't tend to have oat milk and it's my favorite. The service was amazing and they were very friendly. I was super excited to try one of their dinner foods. I got the lemon cello pasta my pasta dish had zero sauce on it which meant that the noodles tasted like straight up noodles. I added on sautéed vegetables and mushrooms, and I had about three whole baby, Bella mushrooms total And broccoli was added the add-ons and the tomatoes in the dish were the only thing that has some flavor to it. Edit: came back during covid, front of the house staff were completely awful minus the man I've had in years passed, likely the oldest of the group. He was the ONLY one with as mask consistently on. We wanted a random road trip today so we drove up to Yankton, SD from Omaha, NE. Couldn't find somewhere that looked good in Yankton so we came here & we're so glad we did. The restaurant is pretty narrow and busy but we were immediately sat (on a Sunday late morning/early afternoon) & had someone at our table for drinks immediately. I ordered the Creme brûlée latte (decaf as I'm limiting caffeine) and it was fantastic. Hubby stuck with iced tea and water. Food wise I ordered the chunky monkey pancakes and he ordered the loaded potato frittata brûlée. I'll be honest, the main reason we stopped here was a picture of he chunky monkey pancakes and the Creme brûlée latte. The pancakes definitely did not disappoint, three pancakes and they were delicious! The pancakes were filling for me and just perfect. As a fair warning, the pancakes have almonds and raisins mixed in - I'm assuming from the granola but I just picked around the raisins. The loaded potato frittata was good - not as sweet as what I ordered but still really good. I did cave and get dessert to go for our trip home. Ended up ordering a gluten free strawberry and cream cupcake & the cookies & Creme, vanilla champagne and cookie dough cake truffles. Our waiter threw in a Vanilla Almond Poppyseed cupcake and a chocolate cake truffle because I was having issues deciding. read more

We met our son and grandsons for brunch here and as always everything was fabulous! Kids enjoyed coloring their menus while we waited for our meals. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The place was packed and wait was about 45 minutes but once in the staff was very attentive. Everything came out hot and timely.
