Definitely my favorite meal of our entire time in steamboat. There weren't that many people there when we went and it allowed the server to give us all of her attention which was great. Drinks were exquisite. In particular the blackberry julep. I have been obsessed with these (the julep family) for like 2 years now and they got it right. Venison was perfectly cooked melted in my mouth but the star of the show was the tomato jam, I hate tomatoes, until you add sugar... lots and lots of sugar. This paired nicely with the meat and with the potatoes I couldn't get enough of it. The steak was perfectly cooked as well and made me happy to be alive. However, the wild rice was not the best, probably the only thing that I didn't like about this place. OMG I forgot about the pepper soup. I ordered a second bowl like a weirdo for dessert because it was perfectly sweet and savory. The creme brulee was one of the tops that I have ever had and by now I have had creme brulee at at least 50 or more locations so I think I have finally earned my street cred. THE VERDICT: The great thing about steamboat is you can hit almost every single restaurant in a 4 day period. If this is left off your list you will be greatly disappointed that you will have to visit steamboat for a second time. You have been warned. read more

This has been a favorite special place for many years but it is not the same place as when Paul owned it. The food was good (not great) and the service fair at best. The server came back for our entree orders before our starters were served and when we said we wanted to at least see the appetizers before deciding, she basically said "no" and just stood there waiting. First time visit to Cafe Diva. I did not have reservations and was eating solo. I was warmly greeted and easily found a spot a the bar where I had the great pleasure of being served by Gina who made a fantastic martini and explained the broad menu. It all sounded good. Tough choice but I chose the unbelievably delicious appetizer - peanut butter and pork belly on crispy bread. I know this sounds strange but try it. It is so good! I followed that with a fantastic lamb shank that was fall off the bone delicious. I went with the recommended wine -perfect match. My biggest surprise was the attentive expertise of the staff. The three couples that made up this dining experience come from Brooklyn, NY; Lawrence, KS; San Luis Obispo, CA. Ages range from 29-69. Everyone was absolutely in love with everything about their meal. Starting with the crunchy crusted bread, they brought slightly warmer than room temperature butter(which is the true way to serve butter) included a great olive oil and balsamic reduction. For appetizers we got the pork belly spring roll lettuce wraps with a Thai peanut sauce and Sriracha for extra dipping and flavor punch. Lamb sausage dumplings with cucumber tahini yogurt sauce. The crab and tomato bisque was out of this world. Also shared the spring pea and sunflower panzanella, with white balsamic mint vinaigrette, was maximum freshness and lighter than For main dishes the Mesa encrusted Chile Relleno was shockingly large and delish! The surf and turf, was elk and diver scallops, on a pile of incredible mashed potatoes, and haricot(perfect green beans). Absolutely fabulous! The scallop dish is a favorite of the locals and one from the party. It was perfect as always! Gochujang glazed Colorado chicken breast, coconut coulis and Asian squash noodle salad, was the most surprising dish. I was overjoyed by the coconut coulis, I just wish I had kept some of the bread to soak up the remaining coulis And for dessert we polished off the Mexican chocolate cupcake, with delicate chili strings on top of vanilla bean ice cream. read more

What an amazing dining experience! You definitely pay for what you get but what you get is certainly worth the price. I had the butter lettuce wedge salad that was big enough for three to share easily. It was delicious! I also had crab cakes that were good as was the sauce. Not my favorite ever crab cakes but good. One had the tenderloin and the other the surf and turf and both were fabulous: presentation, taste, temperature. What was really nice was our excellent (and handsome) skier enthusiast server explained every dish including every sauce. I really liked that. The crème brûlée was wonderful as was the wine, sherry, bread with olive oil & vinegar. The warm olives were wonderful! We sat outside in the "garden" which is raised planter boxes full of tiny pansies of all different colors and other flowers. Talk about ambience! A VERY pleasant evening overall. My wife and I were enjoying a nice Labor Day weekend getaway and several people recommended this restaurant. I am so happy they did. Forget the casual dress code; this restaurant is a fine dining experience from beginning to end. I have been fortunate to have enjoyed some of the finest restaurants in the world and Café Diva would not be out of place among them. The dishes are well-designed and very well-prepared. I started out with the crab bisque. Very nice creamy tomato flavor with a hint of pepper. I would have liked a little more crab flavor to provide that bit of sweetness, maybe larger chunks of meat? I enjoyed it very much though. For my entrée I had the halibut which was absolutely delicious. The fish itself was clearly a nice piece of fish to start. Cooked well, great flavor and texture. The lemon, salt & pepper was so simple, but complemented the flavor of the fish so nicely. This was one of the best halibut experiences I have had. My wife had scallops and really enjoyed them. I don't do scallops, but I tried a bit of the sauce, potatoes and corn. Delicious. The corn provided a nice sweet flavor that worked so well with the savory flavors of the rest of the dish. For dessert I simply opted for a pour of Macallan and a scoop of vanilla gelato. I had chocolate the night before and nothing else struck my fancy. This is a simple standby and I was pleased that they had my favorite Scotch. The service is impeccable and friendly. Their staff are clearly very well trained. We will definitely be back. read more

So every once in awhile someone makes a strong recommendation for an amazing restaurant & it actually exceeds expectations. Cafe Diva was a short stroll from our hotel at the Sheraton. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Being such a lovely evening, we decided to enjoy the beautiful Steamboat evening, even tho I could tell the decor inside was beautiful. We were told by the hostess that Cheryl would be taking care of us and within a minute or 2, out she came. We discussed some of the specials, then she had one of the 2 sommeliers come out to discuss wine. Not only was the bottle of wine discussed, he continued with the warmth and friendliness that every person so har extended. We expressed to Cheryl our distain for cilantro. Never before has a server brought out samples of the dishes containing cilantro to see if they would be overpowering or if we still wanted to order them. (btw, the cilantro flavor was so mild that truly you could hardly taste it so we continued with our original order) On to the food. Holy Moly..... We are a sharing group and this is the place to get a number of appetizers and try all the chef has to offer. Is there a favorite? Honestly, each morsel included so many wonderful flavors - they combine in these dishes to perfection. The special soup was a sweet potato vichyssoise topped with creme fraiche. Hint of a spiciness in the soup added to the flavor. They split it for us ahead of time in the kitchen and brought out 4 little bowls. A very nice and unexpected touch. My personal favorite was the crab, mango and coconut cocktail over avocado served with toasted plaintain chips dusted with coconut. OMG... The chunks of crab... yummmm. Next app was sweet corn creme brulee' which my daughter nearly licked the bowl clean. The crisp flat bread served with this dish was a perfect combo. On to the main courses which we decided for only 2 - the special fish was wolf fish served over wild rice salad... My husband's favorite was the Venison Short Loin - wow.... huge portion - we loved this presentation with the green beans & almonds and the huge pile of Yukon gold mashed potatoes. The cabernet sauce was to die for. Apparently this has been a stable on the menu for 20 years. I can see why. It was my husband's birthday so we celebrated with a fantastic berry tart with a brown sugar graham cracker crumb crust. Amazing amazing. ( my lemon and berry mousse was out of this world!) I can't even decide which dish was my favorite, they were all bursting with unique flavors and wonderful presentation, arranged so beautifully! The venison dish was medallions of tender slices of venison loin with a beautiful and flavorful red wine peppered reduction. The kale and pear salad featured gently massaged kale, flavorful pear chunks with feta cheese topping and a spicy vinaigrette dressing. The creme' brûlée's is a mainstay, but the flourless chocolate cheesecake is sure to rock your tastebuds. You cannot make a less than wonderful menu selection. Hands down, one the best meals I've had in many months! If you're in Steamboat and want a memorable meal, you'd be remiss to pass up Cafe Diva. I took my sister here for her 30th birthday on Christmas Eve, and it was worth the wait! I made reservations a month in advance since it was the holidays. We started with a split of champagne, she had a (very strong) pomegranate martini, and my brother in law stuck with a dark beer. Since we'd made the mistake of having a late afternoon snack, we skipped the appetizers and salads and went straight for the entrees. Cafe Diva offers up a modest menu, with a focus on what's fresh and seasonal. One thing I loved about the meal - warm olives topped with almonds. It never would have occurred to me to serve green olives warm, but they were incredibly delicious. My sis has a nut allergy, so they brought out a special dish just for her, and our server notified the chef so that nothing nutty accidentally snuck onto her plate. (Nothing ruins a great birthday dinner like having to whip out the epi pen!) I ordered the beef tenderloin, and was not disappointed. Delicious. It came with a side of crunchy green beans and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were overwhelmed a bit with dried onions, but that's a small complaint since everything about our meal was spectacular. Cindy had the catch of the day, which she enjoyed, and Wil had the lamb shank, served thick and hearty like a stew, and the meat was falling off the bone. Icing on the cake? The waiter overheard us talking about it being Cindy's birthday so brought out a complimentary chocolate torte topped with fresh raspberries and raspberry sauce. What a way to end the meal. I don't understand what all the hype is about. Everyone here was extremely friendly, but I don't review strictly on service unless it's bad. Numerous people told us that this is the nicest restaurant in town. The appetizers were average, and the Bison tenderloin was something I would pass on next time. We went to Café Diva for our last night in Steamboat and my mom mentioned that she tried to come a few weeks earlier for her birthday, but that they were closed due to COVID. All of the staff was so nice and made us feel welcome. Casey, our wonderful server, was so polite and brought my mom a dessert with a candle in it, complete with a birthday serenade. Yum! This place is so romantic, quaint, and fabulous. The servers are friendly to guests as well as eachother; they work as a team (you can ask anyone passing by for help, and they all come to your table to refill waters, pick up plates, etc.) and know how to give service for this caliber of restaurant. We shared the corn creme brulee appetizer which was a large portion, I had the falafel tower which was way too much for me to eat but very pretty (the beet hummus was a beautiful color), my other half had the scallops which very yummy and presented beautifully. For dessert we had the S'more which was amazing and a great interpritation of actual campfire S'mores. The Rose wine suggested by our server was great and paired well with our food. They bring out bread as well (which we were unaware of), so you will definitely not leave this place hungry! The restaurant overlooks the resort area, and on the day we went there was a wedding going on in a tent nearby which provided us with music and entertainment (watching drunken wedding guests stroll by). This is a great location for a date night, especially with the beautiful bistro lights on the patio. The one thing that made us giggle was that each course brought to our table was placed on the table followed by a scripted narrative that began with "Tonight chef Kate...." or "Chef Kate did ______" which made Chef Kate seem like the leader of a cult.
