We also tried the smashed pumpkin and tortilla chips- this was amazing, would definitely have this again!!! For mains we both had the crispy skin salmon and scallops. This was served with a fragrant broth which smelled divine and had a nice kick of chilli in this. The salmon was cooked perfectly, as were the scallops. Perhaps a little less pepper on top of the salmon. Overall, a great experience. Will be back.

They are both entertaining and informative. Also has the best view of Newcastle in Newcastle. Highly recommend.

They had rooms with replicas of how it once looked with artifacts. There's a nice view of the beach and ocean. They have cannons. It's really fun to explore this site if you like military history. I think kids enjoy it too.

There are only 4 or 5 tables inside, with a handful more outside if the weather's warm enough. Inside is country-quaint, with a mix of table and chairs; outside overlooks a reedy pond with birds and trees. The food was alright. Mushrooms on toast for the missus were decent, but my corn fritters were a bit thin and uninspiring. Stick to the simple choices and the coffee and you'll do alright.

In general, I enjoyed the Verdelho because it was like a mixed fruit salad and it was more unique in terms of wines I've tasted. Often you're forced into two courses, and there's only so much steak or lamb rack you can have sometimes. The Wandin's Diner is a nice change in that it's sharing plates: somewhat larger than tapas, and definitely Mod-Oz in cuisine, but really tasty. Chilli Cornbread w/ Warm Tomato Chutney, BBQ Roast Pork Sliders w/ Apple Slaw, Crispy Fried Whitebait: these are different choices than anywhere else around here, refreshingly so. It's great that you can customise your meal in small bits (most things come in 2- or 4-person sizes). It's laid-back, relaxed service, and the outdoor seating area is enclosed in heated in winter. Actually wasn't expecting anything much, but indeed a pleasant surprise! The Gallery is housed in the old Maitland Technical College building, which has been superbly adapted and expanded to produce an excellent, quality art space. The gallery is a very welcoming place and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The art works are beautifully displayed. Luckily for me, there was an excellent exhibition of Jim Cooper's ceramics and the Archibald Prize entries were also on display, on regional tour. I had a most enjoyable morning perusing the artworks and afterwards the well-stocked gift shop. Finally, morning coffee and a delicious home-made pastry at the gallery cafe. The cafe was excellent, and is clearly well-known in Maitland, as it was packed!! Definitely the best cafe I've found in Maitland so far.
