The Yelp feature that notifies when to join the waitlist is a lifesaver! Parking lot is on the smaller side, but not difficult. The Hostess was very welcoming and accommodating! The restaurant from the outside is beautiful with a tropical themed mural; designated areas are clearly labeled as "Dine-In" and "To-Go". The inside is also very intricate with beautiful colors. Fourth of July weekend possibly brought a bigger influx so the noise level was pretty high, but we were still able to hold a conversation. The mango pancakes were spectacular with a generous serving size. Sweet, but not too sweet along with fresh strawberries. Iced Horchata Latte was able to be made with oatmilk rather than regular milk. I appreciate how the servers ask for sweetness preference when it comes to their coffees. The pancakes were around ~$18 and the Iced Horchata Latte (~$8) + oatmilk ($1 for the substitution). I would strongly recommend checking Café Kacao out!! The food and drink selection is extensive--I was honestly a bit overwhelmed because everything sounded so good! I ultimately chose the Tikal with a café de olla since I was in the mood for something less sweet. The meal was generous, flavorful, and came with your choice of flour or corn tortillas, chorizo, carne asada, plantains, eggs, and black beans. Every bite was delicious. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to come back a second time, but unfortunately didn't have the chance. If you're in town, I definitely recommend stopping by. I'm writing this review a bit delayed but I remember really loving the house made tortillas stuffed with beans that came with my Moteleño. They were thicker than I've had in the past and it was the perfect finishing touch for me. I've been craving it ever since. Great veggie options. My mom's chicken dish was also great. The wild berry pancakes were just ok in my opinion. I think I was expecting a bit more of a tres leches type taste with the lechera sauce which is my bad just not having ever had it before. Got it as a dessert. It's not that sweet if that's what you're looking for, but if you want a not-too-sweet option then it could be perfect. It was very beautiful. Would absolutely go back here. But if you play your cards right, you'll get in and enjoy a delicious meal. After hearing about this place for years, my cousin and I decided to give the waitlist a try for an 11am target on a Thursday. I put my name in around 9:30am and saw I was on the queue. It worked out as we checked in and got in around 11:15am. They have takeout if you don't want to wait! Now the FOOD. Wait, first the strawberry-banana smoothie was HUGE and so delicious. Not overly sweet. Same for the latte my cousin got - how do they make it so perfect?! We ordered the Carne Asada lunch and French Toast with fresh berries and sliced bananas to share. Everything was full of flavor and seasoned to perfection. The French Toast is coated and slightly crunchy. I would agree the food is worth the hype. The decor is bright and colorful. It's loud so don't expect a quiet experience. Enjoy the positive energy of the spot, it goes with the food! Service was excellent and helpful if you're a newbie. Cafe Kacao is one of my must try breakfast places in OKC. It's always so good and the portions are enormous. My favorite is the berry pancake, but I love trying some of their savory dishes as well. They just remodeled the restaurant and it's so nice inside. The staff is always super friendly. The main drawback of this place is you cannot casually go on a weekend. You *have* to put your name on the waitlist. My friends and I put our name on at 7:45 and got seated about 11. So you have to be prepared. The waitlist is pretty accurate so as long as you watch it you should know when to leave your house. The wait is always worth it! read more

Flowers well deserved (claps) I have had this place on my radar for a while due to Yelp's top brunch spots a couple years back. After trying it for myself, it will also be going on my personal list of most memorable brunch spots! Ambiance: place was packed with customers, but we did not feel squished, and our server was a literal ray of sunshine (I wish I could shout out but I forgot their name). He was very thorough and happy to answer our questions about their menu, drinks, and recommendations. I do recommend calling ahead and getting on the waitlist though. The food came in massive (**massive**) portions, definitely delivering on the value front. The pancakes (3/5) were a bit underwhelming (soft and one note, but it was saved by the blueberry topping and mango compote. The softness and fluffiness may be a plus for some, but I prefer a bit more substance and flavor for mine! The burrito (5/5) was amazing, all the sauces were phenomenal (no notes), and the coffee (4/5) was pretty good Definitely got to try a lot of flavors that I normally do not get to at a brunch spot. Passing through OKC on a cross country drive from LA and saw this on Yelp 100. Super cute interior, very buzzy (Tuesday morning at 10am and it was full!), wonderful service! Holy Cow! A buddy of mine recommended this little gem. We love trying unique local places. Pro tip get on waitlist early! Once the crowd hits they are packed. Plantains were amazing! Its hard to find good plantains in the states. But these were perfectly cooked and caramelized. Our waiter brought us a special whipped cream cheese to go with them and holy cow it was a 1 2 punch of flavor. My omelette was cooked exactly how it was supposed to be. Tender chunks of carne asada and flavorful pico throughout. The cubanero sauce had a great depth of flavor. They also brought some jalapeño hot sauce which made my tongue tingle! We came to Oklahoma from Texas to visit some friends and see a few sights, and Cafe Kacao was featured on many "Best of..." lists for the city. A lot of reviews made mention of the wait times and getting on the waitlist, as there are no reservations. You can only join the wait list once you are within 40 miles of the restaurant, so we could not join the waitlist until the morning of, as our train arrived the night before. I was a little stressed about this, but luckily the Yelp app gives you a suggested time to join the waitlist for your desired arrival time. For a party of 4, the waitlist recommended joining 2 hours early, so I joined the list at 9am for an 11am meal. This worked out perfectly, as we only needed to wait outside for about 10-15 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant features a lovely mural on the outside wall, and is located just outside downtown OKC. The interior has some interesting ceiling light arrangements, many awards lining the walls, and is overall cozy (but packed). Our waiter was really enthusiastic about answering any questions in detail, which helped as we hadn't had Guatemalan food before. I got the Vaca Frita Pupusas, which was, "Two cheese and pork pupusas topped with Cuban style shredded beef and onions, two eggs, hollandaise, chicharron crumble." and my girlfriend had, Carne Adobada, "Grilled pork steak, fried plantains, black beans, rice, papas criollas & two corn tortillas." I hadn't had pupusas before, and found them very filling and tasty. The eggs, beef, and hollandaise all really were good additions. I also had "off menu" blood-orange juice, which I loved as it was less sweet than orange juice, and had some grapefruit quality to it in terms of tartness. My girlfriend said her pork steak and plantains were especially yummy! Our guests devoured their plates and said the coffee was quite good too. The restaurant was packed and loud with conversations, making it easy to have a private discussion about anything in public if desired. We had a lovely meal with guests, and the food felt unique, filling, and tasty. This made for a special start to a nice vacation. read more

We had a bad start with a much longer wait time than quoted and a rude hostess, but once we were seated our server was great and the manager was wonderful. The manager shared that she heard we had a much longer wait than expected and she was super nice. I visit Cafe Kacao every time I'm in Oklahoma from North Carolina so I was sad to have a rocky start but it quickly got better. The entire restaurant is beautiful and I really love their brand new (new to me anyway as I visit Oklahoma every other year) mural on the side of the building. They had a special Dubai chocolate pancake and we ordered that for the table. It was so good and good for people who don't like Dubai chocolate as the pistachio was not overwhelming. Came here expecting a great experience based on the hype, but honestly, it started off bad and never recovered. We were stopped outside and not even allowed to step in, then told to wait. After standing around, we were informed over the radio that they weren't accepting walk-ins at all. No clear communication upfront, no courtesy, just a waste of time standing there to be turned away. Got seated within minutes from our arrival. The staff is very pleasant and helpful with suggestions for first timers. The place was busy and can obviously loud, but it just shows you what a popular place this is. The portions to any of their entrees are a lot so we ended up sharing what we ordered: Tikal and Pupusas breakfast. We also ordered blood orange, chamomile tea and Japanese matcha with coconut milk. While everything I've ever had here (I've had a large portion of the menu) is good, I could eat the black beans and plantains until I foundered. It's a little loud because the place is small and they have put as many tables in there as they reasonably can. It's fine, just don't expect to have quiet, intimate conversations.
