We got the sampler platter with braised oxtail, jerk chicken, curry goat, plantains, and rice & peas so we could try a little of everything. It was the perfect size for two. The meat melted in your mouth, and the sauces were incredibly flavorful and not too spicy. We also split a very nice bread pudding for dessert. We liked the ambience and the music - nice for a date night, not too loud and not too soft. The chef Patrick was really hospitable and explained the different dishes to us. Was out in Jersey for a soccer tournament and a group of us decided to try out this spot after and it did not disappoint. Cozy spot with ample space and seating. It's in a dry town so they don't serve alcohol, but they allow you to BYOB. The service was really good. Friendly and efficient, and felt very homely. Even though we were a big group of like 15 and only one 2 gentlemen working, they were really efficient and on point. The food was really good! Everything came out hot and fresh and was seasoned to perfection. I tasted my friend's fried chicken and fell in love! So much so, I placed an order of just the chicken to go! Popped into this restaurant for my brother's graduation lunch. We got there early Tuesday and had the restaurant to ourselves. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. The bathroom is also very clean just a tad bit small, but that is okay! We got several appetizers but I only tried the conch fritters and they were tasty! I was encouraged to try the sorrel juice and I'm glad I did! The taste is a perfect balance and the ginger really is refreshing! My main entree was the herb salmon and it was truly delicious. I truly savored every bite along with the spinach and mashed potatoes that came with it. I also ordered a side of plantain because I could not resist and it was perfectly made. Lastly I got to try the bread pudding and molten cake which were both very rich and tasty. I preferred the molten cake but everyone on the table truly loved both. the food did take a little while to come out but everything was made fresh and to perfection! 8/11/24; 8/13/24 & 8/16/24 We found Cafe Mo Bay through Grubhub. We don't like going out on Sundays hehehe Our order was Ackee and Fish and Jerk Chicken and a side of Cornbread with Mango Butter. Everything was delicious!! Of course we had to go out and try in person. We got Mango Punch, Snapper Roll, Oxtail with Rice and Peas and Jerk Pork with Rice and Peas and a side of Collard Greens. Mango Punch has a hint of ginger which gives it a super refreshing taste. Snapper Roll, is genius, we've never seen fish inside a roll that wasn't sushi and it was sooooooo good lol. We wish it was more than just 2 rolls. Oxtail was tender and flavorful and Jerk Pork was delicious. The Collard Greens were good but something was missing... I didn't see any meat pieces so probably not made with ham hock or turkey so it was plain. We went back again by chance, we saw another restaurant on our way the 1st time so we wanted to try it but they were close so since we were already in the area we stopped in again :) Cod Fritter, Curry Goat with Coconut Rice and Snapper with Callao Rice and Spinach. Cod Fritter needed more fish but it was delicious and the sauce was perfect. Curry Goat was tender and so good, and I don't like goat because it can be gamey but this was not gamey. I was the only customer but the young lady was very friendly and sweet., honoring when I needed time and even suggesting some dishes. The atmosphere is a chill vibe. Nice jazz music playing, place is clean and nicely decorated. I ordered the jerk chicken wrap (to dine in) and the jerk chicken spring rolls to go. Now onto the food. The jerk chicken wrap and salad was nicely presented, however lacked flavor. There was a small hint of jerk flavor that I detected but other than that, nothing. I am quite used to Caribbean food and flavor as I grew up on it, so I know what to look for. There were only 3 spring rolls and they were small. Most especially for $12. Gimme'Mo Cafe MoBay!! Great choice for my brothers birthday brunch! The aroma drifting from the kitchen stirred my appetite. We were greeted and seated right away by the waitstaff of 1. He brought us glasses right away when he saw we brought a bottle of bubbly. He explained the menu and the specials and left us to decide. The appetizers came out piping hot and flavorful! The cod fish fritters were my favorite. The apps were brought out in a timely manner with more than enough time to enjoy before the main dishes arrived. This place is great! We got the yucca puffs and the vegetarian roti. Both were amazing. The yucca puffs come with this delicious sauce. The roti is pretty large, and has a large variety of vegis, and a really good flavor. It's not the only Jamaican restaurant in Bloomfield, but the vibe/inside is much more eat-in worthy than its competitor. The inside is nicely decorated and the music is great. Thought I was having a meal from back home, but this was not it. The stew chicken was chopped into such small pieces. The codfish fritter had more flour than fish, it was shameful. By the amount of pictures taken you should' be able to tell that I completely love this restaurant. First off, the pricing was perfect and matched the quality and quantity of each plate received. The top was nice and crusty while the inside was melted, hot & steamy greatness. Will definitely be getting again. Sorrel- refreshing every time but this is the best batch I've ever had. I wish I had rum because it would've been a match made in heaven. Hot Banana bread- I was going for the peach cobbler but god told me this will be just as good and let me tell you...it was! One of the best desserts ever. The hot sauce - this hot sauce teeters on in great and absolutely amazing. The island curry island shrimp. This is hands down some of the best shrimp I've ever had. If you know New Jersey you know we do seafood very well but not every place that sells seafood has quality shrimp. Cafe mobays shrimp was like it was caught and prepared within the same hour. It was fresh, peeled well, cooked to perfection. I hate when i order shrimp and it comes back so small and less than bite sized. This was perfect and I had leftovers that were just as good. There is nice outdoor seating available and if you want to eat indoors their playlist is awesome! Service was great, out waiter was very nice and friendly. COD FISH FRITTERS - They were a little too doughy for me, but I enjoyed them! The honey ginger dressing is what makes this dish stand out to me. It has notes of coconut milk that I really love. SORREL - if you haven't had this before you need to!!! This drink is for my spiced drink lovers out there! It's refreshing and infused with different spices and aromatics to make this the perfect drink to wash it all down with. I have been past this place many times but never noticed it. I was looking forward to trying some of their vegetarian dishes. I called in my order of vegetable dumplings in jerk sauce and a chicken and beef patty for later. The man told me it would be $15 and ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived I had to park illegally because that area is busy. I arrived and waited about 10 more minutes for my food. I paid with credit card and left. When I got home I dug in and the dumplings were ok. The sauce wasn't too bad, it had a little kick because of the jerk sauce. All in all I had an ok experience. I said a prayer and hoped my stomach wouldn't be bubbling. The food was ok. It wasn't as fresh or flavorful as I would have liked. The oxtails weren't tender with hard meat surrounded around the fat and bone. It had a little flavor profile. You could tell this was old. The jerk chicken had good spice, but you could tell it was reheated a few times where the taste was borderline old. The fried red snapper had little flavor, but the oil smelled old. The stew chicken was mid-flavor. The patties were good. The portion size of the meat and veggies was small incomparison to the amount of (Uncle Ben's) rice it was served with. I had the cod fritters as an appetizer here. The only problem there was no cod in them! They tasted ok/good, but they were more like fried zeppolis without the powdered sugar. For dinner I had the stew chicken with Mac and cheese and plantain. The stew chicken was delicious! But, it was mostly all bones barely any meat! I kid you not, but it was around 4 ounces of meat all together! The rest were just bones! That's the main reason for the 3 star rating, and why I wouldn't come back. We took our order to go, which gave us permission to lick the containers. The serving sizes were huge, I absolutely have left overs. We also got sides of Mac and cheese. Flavors were good, but felt a bit dry. It needed more cheese! I would love to try their brunch menu one day. I also wish their prices were updated on their menu and website. Prices have gone up on everything and I didn't know until it was time to pay. We ordered the oxtail with rice&peas and a side of Mac and cheese . Also the island jerk pork with sweet plantains and another side of Mac and cheese. It was phenomenal!
