Okay so boom, I love a good a sandwich, especially paninis! This takeout review includes: Buffalo wings w/ Ranch Duck Empanadas Chicken Pesto Panini (no tomato) Sweet Potato Fries I have been wanting to try this place for a while and they were really busy the last time I attempted to dine-in for brunch. On the dinner menu, there were so many items that caught my eye but I settled on the Chicken Pesto Panini (pictured) without the tomato. The bread was perfectly crisp along the edges and right amount of moist in the center. Chicken hmmmm so juicy, and perfectly grilled. The pesto sauce was so savory and blended perfectly with the gooey cheese. It's honestly difficult to ruin a panini! The panini comes with chips but I subbed them for sweet potato fries. They were thin cut and just about mushy by the time I got home but once I popped them in the oven for about 15mim the were pretty good. Note: this business uses styrofoam to-go containers so anything you order that's grilled of fried may be mushy when you open the container. There was a good bit of condensation in my plate. Everything about an empanada sounds good and I've never had them with duck. They were delicious! The flavor was spot on and the sweet chili sauce they were paired with was perfect. The wings, one of my top 5, came wrapped in foil and literally maintained the hit from the point they hit that foil paper in the restaurant until they hit my kitchen counter. The Buffalo sauce had the perfect mix of tangy and spicy. I didn't care for the breading but these wings were quite tender. I will be returning to try a few more things on their menu, maybe brunch will be next! read more

I haven't been to this spot in so long that I didn't realize that it was owned by the Riccobano's now, like since Katrina now. Clearly I am not paying attention. I met a couple of friends there for lunch recently and had a great meal. My cup of shrimp and corn bisque to start was warm and yummy with just a hint of spice to offset the richness. I had the spinach artichoke panini with a bag of chips and it was just what you think, like dip on bread. Delicious. I ended up having half the sandwich to go. My friends got yummy and bountiful fries as their sides and one had the same sandwich as me and the other had the turkey bacon and said it was really good. Good to know they have heaters for their outdoor seating during this chilly time of year. And that they have a boozy brunch on weekends. I definitely need to go back and try more items. read more

Very disappointed. Place wasn't very clean and definitely needs a paint job on the walls and/or good wipe down. It just felt icky. Food was awful. Pizza was burnt all over, top, sides, and bottom. The worse part was that the sauce tasted like canned tomato paste, very bland. Sandwich was made with stale bread and cheap looking deli sliced fillings with no flavor or substance. Just awful. Definitely not worth the price or time. We did not finish our meals and chose to just leave. Service was just ok. Based on this visit, I would not recommend this place. read more

Sioooo, we ordered the spinach dip. Just rename it spinach "crack" and you'll completely understand your new addiction. This is one of my favorite breakfast joints. We sat outside on the sidewalk and luckily today was gorge. Their menu is small but purposeful. We started with mimosas and iced mochas, they were both amazing! It was busy but their staff managed well. These are things that I pay attention to. Our waitress (and sadly I don't remember her name) was an absolute doll. She knows her menu offerings and she consistently checked on our table. We dined on scrambled eggs, applewood bacon, hash browns, pancakes and biscuits. Seriously, their breakfast is delicious. Seasoned well and not too much. Cafe Navarre is a local, Lakeview haunt. If you're a tourist, get an Uber and check it out. The neighborhood is clean and pleasant and it's just a good vibe throughout. Made sure server knew exactly what kind of eggs I wanted - soft scramble not over cooked not omelette. Repeated multiple times and had him repeat. He brought out an omelette and pointed to his notepad where after everything I told him he still just write down omelette. Are you serious? Somehow this server had no idea what the word scramble meant. Then he made it clear if they redid it itd take a while even though it was on him for getting order wrong and never communicating to cooks. He brought back same eggs chopped up 5min later. Again, you have to be kidding? Utterly unacceptable. No manager on duty and waiter would no longer talk to me so another waiter kindly talked to cooks and had them remade the eggs - they were still well done. It's been a while since I've had this bad service/food so wrong. Which is shame bc eggs would have been good otherwise good ingredients and potatoes biscuit good quality. Ok I've just had one of the most delicious, tasty, and juicy burgers on the planet!!! I got the "Dirty Burger" which is a burger topped with roast beef debris gravy. I thought that it would be a bit oozy gooey and messy BUT it wasn't. The debris gravy added a whole other dimension of beef flavor goodness to the entire experience that just kicked this burger up to amazing flavor heights. The burger meat itself was outstanding and bursting with flavor with obvious tasty chunks of onion in the meat. This is one of my all time favorite burgers hands down!!! The only downsides were they sliced my burger in half (and I hate it when places do that) and the bun could use some improvement. With the roast beef debris being so good on the burger you can probably guess that it is equally fantastic on a po boy and it doesn't disappoint as they really do a fantastic roast beef po boy here. My main "beef" with this place is that they only offer their pizza at night and not their other delicious options. The pizza looks fantastic and I will try it at some point but I'm still addicted to their beefy goodness contained within their Dirty Burger and roast beef po boy so I get sad when I can't get it at night. They have lots of other sandwich and po boy options (and maybe some other stuff I'm not able to focus on as I'm still in a burger swoon) so I look forward to sampling other choices here soon!!! read more

This is an ok place if you are in the neighborhood and just want an inexpensive breakfast. I had the navarre breakfast and my husband had the combination. Everything was very basic, and the quality was just ok. I felt like I could have made everything we had at home for half the price. I definitely wouldn't drive all the way out here just to have breakfast at this cafe. The service is ok, but they forgot to bring us silverware. We had to ask for it. It's also super loud inside the restaurant, which means it's a pretty good place to take kids, but no fun for a couple trying to enjoy breakfast alone on a weekend. This was my first time here and I was with friends who's children had just wrapped up baseball at Lakeview Playground. We took up the whole upstairs. I was told by a few that the roast beef poboy was pretty good, so I didn't want to pass it up. I got my usual, dressed with extra mayo. Our waitress was very nice and attentive for such a big group, 8 adults and 5 children. They had tv's on and the atmosphere was casual. My poboy arrived and boy did it smell delish! I put a few drops of Crystal on either side and dug in. It sure didn't disappoint! I couldn't believe I finished the whole thing bc it was a nice sized portion. I would definitely recommend ordering it. I would like to actually say it's one of the best in town if the bread was a little crisper. On my next visit, I'll ask to maybe toast it a little longer? I wish I could speak highly of the rest of my food. The biscuit was under baked and tasted of flour, and my omelette had large gobs of creamed spinach. I picked up lunch yesterday and did not dine in, and maybe the food just isn't meant to be taken to-go because it was, unfortunately, pretty average. My partner got the Chicken Sandwich and the sandwich was 90% bun with a small piece of chicken. I got the Turkey & Avocado panini and it had no flavor, which could have partially been my fault for picking something so basic. I have had the Spinach & Artichoke Panini before, and that was always pretty good, but I remember the bread being soggy when I ordered it previously. Gravy cheese fries were good! Overall, will probably only eat here again if we dine-in. Some food just needs to be eaten right out the oven, but COVID has postponed this experience for many :( read more

Everything about this place was just ok. Nothing was particularly good or bad. They have very simple breakfast options for a decent price but I wouldn't call it a steal. FOOD I got a veggie omelet which I was pretty dissapointed in. I was hoping for more of filled omelet but It was just pan fried vegetables sprinkled into eggs. The chocolate pancakes were also nothing to write home about. After being the parent of the disobedient pup at the dog park, I found myself frustratedly sitting in my car, pooch in the backseat, looking up places to eat. I wasn't finding many options, and while I like Cafe Navarre, I wasn't necessarily feeling it. Fast forward through a missed turn, and bam! Cafe Navarre is in my face. I decided to drown my sorrow's of puppy parenting in a sandwich - you know, the only possible way to show my dog that she was wrong and in need of punishment! So, we did. We were the lone souls in the outside area (likely because of the ~50° weather), and were instantly taken care of. The server brought out new water to my evil child, who was trying to lunge at the local birds, quite unsuccessfully. Meanwhile, her human was devouring a Cuban sandwich that was quite good. Like, goooood. In the end, I am thankful that my misbehaved daughter led me to giving Navarre a chance for an early meal. A different waitress came back and explained that our waitress was new and didn't know to mention the bisque is an extra $2. I said, "ok we did not know that." To which she said "it's on the menu." This is one of those places I'd passed by a million times before I finally ate there, which gives you long enough to imagine (in this case, incorrectly) what it's like. They're only open until 3pm, so it's a good place for breakfast and lunch. They serve lunch all day (that is, for as long as they're open), so I love going here for post-noon breakfast (not that I sleep that late or anything...) Recently, I discovered they have an A.M. ONE OF THE BEST CUBAN PO'POYS IN TOWN! Okay so it's not El Siboney, but Navarre's version doesn't claim to be a classic Cuban Mix, rather it's a New Orleans version. WHY IT'S GOOD BUT NOT AUTHENTIC: 1. The hollowed pressed baguette although not bona fide is appropriately crisp (I still contend that a Vietnamese Bahn Mi bun would be better); 2. The roast pork and ham are generously portioned at a 3+:1 ratio to the bread; 3. They use a hearty Swiss and thin tart pickles; 4. MAYONAISE??? The first rule when making a classic Cuban is what not to add: tomatoes, lettuce, and never MAYONAISE; 5. The yellow mustard isn't strong enough to enhance the flavor. And actually yellow mustard is a South Florida contrivance. Purists contend that the juices from the meats and pickles should suffice; 6. Just $7.75 but oddly sides aren't included. This is a very cute, neighborhood cafe. I had the most delicious catfish po-boy there. They dress it seriously, with lettuce, pickles, mayo, tomatoes, and ketchup. I was a pretty busy Friday lunch hour but the food was coming out apace, much to their credit. I see that they have alcoholic beverages and are now open for dinner. Once inside, I was surprised to see a large clean dining area and varied menu selection. I particularly enjoyed their salad and Panini items. It was a warm sunny day, so I decided to sit in the patio area. The staff was super friendly, and offered many smiles.
