This is my favorite cafe in Michigan!! I swear I was in there at least 2x a week. The food and coffee is so fresh and tasty, you can definitely tell the quality is high. My favorite go to is the iced rose cardamom latte and their breakfast brioche sandwich. Just recently tried their cookies as well and it's unreal. Upon arriving, it took a little while before anyone came over to help us, but once we made it to the ordering counter, the atmosphere really started to live up to the café's name and charm. Will was phenomenal and truly made the experience. He was incredibly helpful while assisting with our order and his energy elevated the whole visit. He also shared that everything is made in house, which made the experience feel even more special. We ordered the Chicken Masala Sandwich, an Affogato, and a chocolate chip cookie. The Chicken Masala sandwich was absolutely delicious. The flavor profile tasted clean, fresh, and thoughtfully crafted. For the Affogato, we sampled several ice cream flavors before landing on vanilla, cookie butter, and dark chocolate. The cookie butter was the standout and absolutely phenomenal, but honestly any of the options would have been a great choice. The chocolate chip cookie was also incredible. I warmed it up in the oven after getting home and it completely took it to another level. If I had one recommendation, it would be offering warmed cookies in house because that made it next level. One of the best coffee shops we've been to! Stopped in for a quick coffee and bite to eat. We sat outside on a hot day and had some iced coffee and a breakfast sandwich. There were so many different ways to get an iced coffee and a handful of different syrups. My wife got vanilla and I got maple cinnamon. She got the Rollo for food and I got the brioche breakfast sandwich. I could not believe how soft the brioche bin was and how flavorful her wrap was! Cafe Origins is tucked right into the bustling area of Birmingham, and it's a really charming spot to stop for a coffee or bite to eat. They have a beautiful patio with plenty of seating, and I appreciated that the tables were clean and sturdy, not a wobbly one in sight. It's a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you're trying to enjoy a drink without worrying about spills. The staff was friendly and quick to bring out orders. Something I thought was interesting. They take orders on Toast devices right in the café, which isn't something I've really seen before. The baristas were super nice, and overall the service felt smooth and organized. My only small critique was that the music was a bit loud, even outside, so it was harder to fully relax or have a conversation without raising your voice a little. When I tried to grab the baristas attention when I was leaving to figure out where I should put my items, he didn't actually hear me so I think maybe slightly turning down the music would be a good idea. This is really just my preference because I'm a reader, though, so some people may have different opinions on that or not really care. The menu is diverse, with plenty of drink options and a good selection of food. I only ordered a chocolate croissant this time, but I saw several sandwiches going out to other tables and they looked like a generous portion. For my drink, I went with an iced chai tea latte. It was good--smooth and refreshing--but I personally like my chai with a stronger spice kick. A lot of places sprinkle cinnamon on top or mix it in, which I enjoy, so in hindsight I should've asked if that was an option. That's more on me than the café, though. Overall, a cozy and well-run spot in a great location. I'd come back, especially to try one of the sandwiches or explore more of the drink menu, maybe on a slightly quieter afternoon. read more

My first visit here, and definitely not my last. This might just be my new favorite spot for coffee in Birmingham. They offer much more than just great coffee, including ice cream, baked goods, and sandwiches. The fact that they have several halal options is a big plus. I tried the affogato, and it was absolutely delicious, rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I'll definitely be back for it again soon. My new favorite place to eat! Breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner - they got it all covered! Lamb rollo is my favorite! Chicken one is Really good too. Don't want it as a roll up? No problem - turn it into a salad or a rice bowl. Quiches are yummy as well. This place has a very ethically diverse menu which pays homage to different cultural cuisines. I love that in the summer you can eat outside- with potted palm trees, sun umbrellas and music playing outside- it gives the place Floridian vibe (minus the ocean) . The quiche is my favorite quiche in this world and doesn't to be changed at all! Please don't change it! I really do think this is the best cafe in the Detroit area and it's just not the food it's also the staff that make it such a nice experience. My go tos are the: Tuna melt add fresnos - it's sooo delicious if you love tuna melts. Applewood smoked bacon quiche - I rave about this quiche/ it's perfect/ no notes ( please don't get rid of it) Pistachio latte- best I've had!! Great cafe with awesome food. Staff here are very friendly but one problem. We ordered some of the ready made items with a roll up sandwich that had to be made in the kitchen. We waited almost 30 minutes to have it made. The staff were apologetic, I wonder if they were short staffed in the kitchen. The food is unique and really good, so we will be back. read more

This place has gone wayyyy down hill. Used to be my favorite breakfast/lunch place. Seems that the ingredients and quality of food has changed. The hot sauce doesn't even taste remotely the same. The staff here are incredibly nice and you can tell they all enjoy working there which is a bonus! I've gone here several times and no matter who helps me they've always been extremely kind. I believe their positivity rubs off on their customers and makes the whole cafe a nice and welcoming environment. Not to mention, their coffee is probably my favorite over anywhere else. I love that they have patio seating and I hope to get out there over the summer to enjoy it. My only complaint would be the WiFi doesn't work that well, so I usually end up having to use my hotspot which is not a big deal for me, but please be aware if you intend to do work here. read more

I use to love this place, but for the price it's not worth it. Ordered a roast beef sandwich had no sauce and 3 tiny pickles on the whole sandwich. For almost 20 bucks super disappointing. Went to get a bacon breakfast sandwich with extra meat, why is extra meat half the price of the sandwich. I also use to add kimchi to my sandwiches but it's 4 dollars for a tiny scoop. I'm always up for trying a new cafe. This place invested in a large, expensive Loring roaster which caught my eye. It was a bit disappointing to find out that they basically just roast blends and not anything for coffee nerds. Was happy to try this new spot in Birmingham recently. Found the ambiance to be bright and cheerful, with staff that were friendly and helpful. Their menu proclaims the locale to be "more than coffee," and this description is spot-on. Offerings included hand pies, which consisted of a variety of pastries with different savory fillings. I got the curried potato samosa (delish!), while the co-diner ordered the chicken pot pie - he liked it very much. The pastry used in the hand pies was flaky, buttery and flavorful - just what the diners ordered. Other options were: rollos (wraps), soups (we each got the clam chowder: highly recommend), salads, sandwiches, and quiches. There was also a lamb tagine as the day's special. For dessert, there were gelati and pastries. We split a hazelnut cookie - very nice. Good variety of options in all categories. Hot and cold beverages were on offer, from coffee to tea to juices, and even a chocolate egg cream. Will definitely need to come back and try that one.House-made bread was also available. We took a loaf home, and it was great. All in all, if you are looking for a sparkling clean and friendly place for lunch or a light dinner (or even a more satisfying dinner, if you get the daily special), Cafe Origins will hit the spot. read more
