From jewelry to crystals to succulents and art, there was something for everyone at the Miami Flea. They also had live music which was super festive and a bar with cocktails. The cocktails were from Mac's pub and super refreshing and tropical. Some of my favorite vendors included Martha of Miami with her Miami AF merchandise, Wagboss and La Succulenta. I left with inspirational jewelry from lucky bee, and a full heart from all the Local love that was going on that day. Aside from the shopping they also have a section for food. I didn't try, but the options were varied and looked delish. Parking can be tricky. There's a few cash lots around but I got lucky with street parking near by. The Miami Flea is a fun spot to support local! Shout out to all the small biz owners following their dreams and making Miami a truly unique place :)

It would be cool if they opened the application up to one-time vendors or pop-ups. I wouldn't really make it your main destination for the day, but just a short stop to somewhere else in downtown or Wynwood. I've only purchased food like coffee, macarons, etc. here. Never saw any stuff I actually wanted to buy. The vintage stuff vendor is pretty cool though. It's great for people watching and chilling because a variety of characters show up.

Therefore, whenever there's a public event I try to attend. The fact that it's right on the sand of south beach on a sunny Memorial Weekend? Even better! The way the event is organized, the different branches of the military put interactive displays of the "exciting" units (special forces, air defense, tanks, fighter pilot) to let people try out and sign up for recruiting lists (I'm sure). They also have fitness contests where for example, this here late 40's dude, can do 40 pushups for military swag such as water bottles and take pictures with different hardware. I also got to play around on a simulated missile battery and wear cool helmets. The best way to see the air show and parachute jumpers is buying a ticket to be able to access the fenced-in area on the ocean (similar to what is done for SOBEWFF and the like.) Operating just off the water, myself and others were treated to displays such as the SEAL team boarding a ship, checking out the paratroops and of course seeing some pretty fast planes! They also had a display of vintage military aircraft. Getting to the beach has both general admission and various VIP tiers. With GA you basically get a front seat to all the action and have to buy everything else as you go. Springing for "basic" VIP gets you seating in one of the tents, included well drinks (basics like rum and coke) and a lunch plate (Churrasco & couscous). The VIP also gets you one re-entry to the area. The drawback to the tent did limit seeing some of the flights though. The only other snafu was that the printed ticket showed the entrance on 10th and Ocean when in reality it was on 13th.. Oh well, at least I got some PT going in. I could also stay on the beach after the show and catch up on my tan as well!

The chef (whose name I did not get, because I'm smart like that) spoke pitifully little English, but he was openly friendly and kind. I ordered a meat lasagna and was pretty happy to get my order on short notice with a bit of bread on the side. I honestly thought that'd be it. The portion wasn't crazy huge (which you almost expect eating at a food truck) and it wasn't the crazy kind of lasagna you'd see somewhere else that's drenched in cheese and sauce. What happened was that I bit into the thing and was blown away because it was surprisingly delicious. Really, really good lasagna, with super-tender pasta that you can tell was made fresh, no shortcuts. If that wasn't enough, I'd returned to pay my compliments and I got to try a piece of tiramisu. Maybe it's because I'd never actually had tiramisu before (and I claim to love Italian food -- I'm a failure), but it was delicious and sweet. Girlfriend had some of my tiramisu too, and noting that she has had some amazing tiramisu in the past, noted that what I'd just eaten was definitely up there. So maybe the portion isn't what you're used to, but if you just want to have GOOD Italian food, then this truck will impress you. (And get the tiramisu once you're finished.)

Spanish being spoken everywhere you go. And the best part is to watch the old-timers playing dominoes in the parking lots/sidewalks. Mass traffic on Calle Ocho (SW 8th) with no where to park so go past it a couple of blocks and park in that area or take Uber or a transit bus. No matter what, you will have fun there! This year, I made sure to be fully prepared for the event in order to get the full effect. I was slightly disappointed with the event this year. I feel like there were barely any food vendors this year, especially compared to last year. Also, a lot of the big Miami restaurants weren't in attendance like they were last year. I will say the vibes were great. There was music, great vendors, and good food and drinks. I got so much merch and snacks/drinks to take home. My favorite dishes this year were the griot arancini from S. Joseph Catering, the Bahamian conch fritter from A Taste of Elegance, the crispy sazón chicken from Goya, the peach cobbler pound cake from Chillicious Edibles and Events, the truffle bites from King Hawaiian, the hibachi fried rice from Benihana, and everything (both the dumpling and crab something) from STK. I also loved the birria quesadilla from a vendor I forgot to get the name of. The event was very organized and I love how there's free water stations and garbage stations at every corner. They keep the place extremely clean! Even the bathrooms are kept in outstanding order the entire day. Great job by all the volunteers and staff working the event. Right when you enter, they hand you a bag filled with goodies (which already sets the tone), and once inside it's pretty much a foodie's playground. You're free to eat and drink as much as you'd like, sampling everything from small bites to full-on impressive dishes. The event felt very well organized, and everyone working it was pleasant and helpful, which made navigating the crowd easy. Yes, some drink stations had longer lines, but honestly I never waited more than about 5 minutes -- totally manageable for an event of that size. The cooking demos were actually interesting (not just background noise), and I tried a lot of great food. My absolute favorite was the jollof rice -- I've never had anything like it before, and it was packed with flavor. STK also had a crab appetizer that was delicious and perfectly done. (I remember this area when I went to high school nearby and it was just the hood, but I'll leave it at that...don't want any more gray hairs to pop up!) Anyways, Wynwood / Design District has grown up and diversified now and known by the mainstream. Nowadays you're likely to see a DJ performance in front of a local (non green mermaid) coffee shop with live breakdancing, live street painting, performance art such as planking in one of the public spaces, and bands in the other . You're also likely to run into a bunch of majorly cool people around the different galleries too. Don't forget the bunch of new restaurants, plus the food trucks either! Sure, parking can be an adventure and / or overpriced ($10 for an unimproved lot where my "Eleanor" gets dirty?? ) But what would a hot night in the city be without a little adventure!
