I had a restaurant.com coupon, so I found this restaurant. the food was great, I started with mussels in garlic sauce. the mussel was tender, the sauce was so good I broke down and did the bread dunk. My main meal was the chicken in brown sauce with mushrooms and shrimp. Again a home run. I almost never get chicken out, but I was sick 8f eating fish all the time, they did have an extensive fish menu. I finished with espresso and tartuffo. the espresso was good, but they did not often any sambukko with the espresso, the only demerit. read more

Absolutely dissapointed. Placed an order for 8 trays of food to be picked up at 7pm. I Arrived there 6:55pm. I was told food would be right out. I only got my food 40 minutes later . When you have a party to get back to and now your 40 minutes or more late is unacceptable. If your restaurant is running behind schedule especially 40 minutes, a courtesy call to your customers is the right thing to do. I would 100% never order from this restaurant again or recommend it. read more

Got a Groupon to try this place. We seated at the bar. Ordered frozen margarita but somehow not available so had one on the rocks instead. It was okay. Somehow, the bar is pretty empty on a Saturday night, which I don't mind . Service was great, the waiters and bart Nedra are very helpful. The issue is the kitchen...too slow . The place is not packed and yet took almost an hour to serve our food. The place has a lot of potential so I will give another chance to go back. read more

I went here yesterday.... and not my first time probably my 10th....And this place should be the standard for all Portuguese restaurants should try to live up to.....not overly fancy but the perfect neighborhood restaurant... the staff are always attentive, fast and welcoming ... The decor is perfect for this place old wood bar cream table cloths...patrons speaking Portuguese...wine on every table...pretty good if u ask me... The food...1st you have to have the house wine in the frozen metal mug...just be careful the mug is so cold your lip will stick, it's that cold!!!. Tonight I had the sirloin with rice and veg... plain simple and cooked exactly as asked...it was delicious...this place isn't fancy... just excellent Portuguese food at a great price with dynamite service...you wont be disappointed and the specials are always interesting and different....my only quirk is the name...I'm guessing it's the soccer thing...give them a try..you'll leave full and smiling read more

It's very disturbing that we are in 2016 and staff cannot treat people with an ounce of respect. My boyfriend and I came here Saturday, December 9 after a long hard work week in hopes of having a nice dinner and drinks. Upon entry, the staff did not acknowledge our presence...I made the mistake of proceeding to the bar and said "Hello" to the bartender. He just looked at us as if we were beneath him and did not say a word! Our minds were blown and we left. It really upset us. I'm not sure what was in the water at this establishment, but hope they can put an end to judgment and discrimination. according to Yelp it was open till 2 am. i pulled up at around 11:30 pm and it was still open, but people were leaving. after i parked and went inside it was already empty inside and they told me it was closed. i told them that according to the internet it should still be open ( both google maps and yelp showed 2 am ) and they just replied " no no no closed " ... if the information on yelp is wrong they should have fixed it. or maybe they just decided to close because there weren't enough people inside. either way - not cool at all. at the same exact time applebees on Jericho turnpike was completely packed - there must have been 50 people inside. basically if it's getting late i strongly suggest you ignore the listed hours and either call or go somewhere else. read more

The Sangria was excellent! The salad was nice too. Pre-tossed with oil & vinegar. All down hill from there. The service was incredibly slow with no hospitality. Also a 45 minute wait for our main dishes. My paella, if you want to call it that. was so disappointing. It was watery without any taste. I ate a few shrimp that was it. I tasted my friend's seafood dish, which also had no taste. My buddy has eaten there and always liked it. Maybe it was an off night. But I won't be going back. read more

It's a small restaurant nice table. However on Mother's Day dinner we were the only family in the restaurant( the only table) it took 1 hr for our food to come out. It was disappointing to my family to have wait 1 hour for the food to come out when there is no one else in the restaurant. The lamb was average. The goat was subpar. The service was slow. Two people for dinner. I give the waiter a restaurants.com $25 coupon. Waiter takes back the check, and adds an 18% tip on the top. The coupon did NOT say this would be automatically done. Insulting and stupid. Do I not know how to tip and to tip before the discount? I would actually have given a 20-25% tip based on the service up until this point. So the waiter essentially saved us money and lost some tip. I felt hurt anyway. The bad is that they serve you soup in a bucket. I would have preferred a small cup and a bit lower price. All food is two to three times of the portion I would expect. Mountains of rice. A basket full of bread, enough for 4-6 people, but there were two of us. What a waste! Then they charge $25-30 per dish. Soup $5, desert $10. Add a drink, and your bill with tip is over $60 per person. Hard to choose from the menu, because you have variations of the same dish as separate items. Some soups have heaps of flour in it. You want to eat healthy and they load you with carbs. The good is that the place is clean, and silverware is spotless. I loved some of the artwork on the walls, like a lady standing at a bar. The waiter was skillful and attentive. Every dish was brought to the table on time and piping hot! Everything we tasted was absolutely fresh. If not for the ugly part, I would say the place is OK. But the bad outweight the good, and for the money there are plenty of better choices on Long Island, Manhattan, and in-between. Avoid! read more

I've driven by Café Sport for years and never went in because I always thought it was another "local" sports bar. But a while back I found out it was a Portuguese restaurant....really? I mean, who knew? Anyway, we finally went last week, and was so pleased with everything, we will be going back very soon! The food is wonderful, with portions that border on too big, but hey, that's a good thing isn't it? Because eating your meal again for lunch will help your work day go faster! Lol! The service is spot on and the restaurant, though not very modern or sleek, has a old world feel that fits. And how often does a waiter tell you that what you & your husband ordered is so big, you can get away with ordering 1 portion and split it? Like never right? Well, we should have listened, because when our 2 Valencia Paella orders came to the table, we looked at each other and immediately sent back 1 portion to be packed up for home. And we couldn't finish the one we did share..... Our friends had the osso bucco & the seafood combo in a parsley sauce. They were both outstanding and equally huge. BEWARE!!! Lobster dishes were tasteless, not as described, a TOTAL disappointment! Lobster tails with Champaign Sauce... the lobster was SO DRY AND HARD it was almost impossible to tear out of the shell. the CHAMPAIGN Sauce was like water with a splash of RED SAUCE in it!! NO TASTE, TEXTURE OF WATER! My friend had Lobster Tails in Green Sauce. These lobster tails were not as dry, but were also totally tasteless in a watery sauce with some parsley floating in it. The food I've had here was mediocre, with the exception of the chicken wings, which were crisp and delicious. My cousin's fish was burnt and not well seasoned, and the rice was dry. We had drinks, they had food, and toward the end of the night, one of the bartenders pointed in our direction and another one made a motion that seemed to ask "Is that her?" Apparently they read my review and upon spotting me decided it necessary to question why I left what I did and why I only gave the place two stars. I explained that what I wrote was what had happened, and while it wasn't a terrible dining experience, there were things that could've been better. I wasn't scathing or nasty in the review, but these men seemed entitled to a justification for my opinion and proceeded to explain that I probably came late when the kitchen was nearing closing, so the food quality was a little lower. Besides the fact that I expect food quality to not be compromised due to the time of day (first impressions are lasting ones!), I was a bit put off by their insistence on discussing this in front of my friends and having to feel like I was defending myself. In any case, to even the score so to speak, they waived from the bill a pitcher of the sangria we thought was free (only individual drinks are free for ladies on Thursdays as of my latest knowledge) in exchange for my revised review. I appreciate the staff's willingness to change my mind and opinion about their establishment and their act of good faith (the free pitcher). That's how you turn a somewhat unsatisfied customer into someone who will do repeat business with you. I would return here gladly. read more

Portions are big enough to share or certainly take home and eat again. Service is very good, attentive, but slow. Bread basket is overflowing..., so rare not to have to ask for a refill. This small local restaurant serves excellent food for a very reasonable price. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The Portuguese wine we ordered was delicious. We started with clams Portuguese which had so much yummy broth that we couldn't stop sopping it up with the lovely bread.
