Its slightly hidden away, bit higher up the street from Robinsons and a bit lower down than Richer sounds...so isn't likely to pick up passing trade as easily, but i think its worth the 2 minute walk off the main highstreet. Spotlessly clean and with delightfully lovely staff it was a real pleasure visiting Tandem today. I had red pepper and houmous bagel for just £2 - nicely priced and makes working from a coffee shop more affordable and therefore something i can do more often. Wi-Fi is free and streamed the programme i was watching without any glitches...so another tick for working from there. And a final tick for providing a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. My favourite thing though....they are one of the only coffee shops that have delivered a hot chocolate to absolute perfection. Hot, not too much foam, not too thick, but still absolutely chocolately (and with teeny marshmallows). I am so impressed (as you wouldn't believe how many people seem to get this wrong). when i asked about it she said it takes a little longer than normal to make as they have to melt the limini drops slowly (that's the chocolate) and whisk it, but in my opinion it is well worth the wait. It's located on Bury Old Road in a mainly residential area, although there is a run of shops along the high street. It's also about 3 minutes' walk from Besses o' th' Barn tram stop, and right next to a stop for the 135 bus between Bury and Manchester. From the outside it looks fairly small, but we were pleasantly surprised to discover they also have upstairs seating so they were able to squeeze us in for brunch on a busy day. The menu is pretty typical of a modern coffee shop of the sort you'd find in the Northern Quarter. We both went for the black pudding hash and it was delicious. Judging by the folks seated around us, the pancake options are also really popular. We went for lattes to drink and their barista's did them proud. There's only a couple of reasons why we didn't give them five stars. The first is that there's something weird with the acoustics upstairs and we found it really hard to hear each other, the voices of the other customers were really loud and echoey. Also, it was quite busy when we arrived and we had to wait about half an hour between ordering and food arriving. A minor grumble, and certainly won't stop us coming back again.

I've been here a few times now for a late weekend breakfast and every time I've enjoyed it…read morethoroughly. The staff are extremely friendly, I've seen the same young guy on shift every time I've been in and he makes you feel welcome every time, although I bit sorry for him having to be at work, early doors on the weekends. They have a good staple selection of traditional breakfasts, no fancy bagels or Benedict's of any sort to be found, which is not a bad thing when they use quality local sourced ingredients. As Raam pointed out in his review they use meat from Axons of Didsbury which is only a few doors further down the road. The coffee is very good and warrants a second cup with your breakfast and they've even served my friend an ultra big size each time he's asked even though it's technically not on the menu to provide him with his caffeine fix. Although I'm not a tea drinker I have it on good authority the tea selection top notch and they provide you with all the sundries which appear necessary, a separate milk pot and extra hot water provided with your loose leaf tea. There are newspapers provided and free wi-fi for those more technological media addicts. They promote local artists work on the walls as well which is a nice touch and most of the work is for sale if anythnig takes your fancy. It's something I've seen more and more in independent cafes and it's a practice of which I thoroughly approve. The only criticism which is more about the location. The tables are on the small side and wouldn't really accommodate a large group of people, this however adds to cosy cafe feel, as long as you a friendly enough with those you are eating with. It can however be a bit of a squeeze past if people are ordering or paying at the counter as you are trying to enter or leave. All in all a solid independent cafe just of the Didsbury high street, with great staff and a pleasant community feel.

Starting with the positives, the prices are fairly good and competitive, and the staff are friendly, despite the fact they close at 5 pm (I do find this to be VERY early), they didn't rush me out, even as they were beginning to tidy up ahead of closing. I have visited here a couple of times now, I notice the stock levels, especially on food do tend to be poor, especially later in the day (from the mid-afternoon onwards), which is a shame, I have been turned away on multiple occasions when trying to get a gluten-free option which isn't a sweet treat, as they seem to always run out of bread! On my most recent visit, I was disappointed with the quality of my gluten-free ham and cheese toastie, they use seeded bread (I don't like this as it gets stuck in your teeth) and the cheese didn't melt well. There is a nice amount of seating here which is quite comfortable, the decor inside this place is interesting, with a wall of mugs, and a selection of books, so they've tried to make it look presentable. I probably wouldn't return here, but there are certainly worse places in the town centre. 2*

You can tell this place is new - all of the decor is shiny and there is plenty of comfy seating to provide a really relaxed atmosphere in what is usually a very busy shopping district. The coffee / tea and general drinks menu was to the standard you'd expect from any coffee shop - and the cakes looked amazing, although unfortunately it was a little early to try these!! The latte I had was good and the overall vibe I got from the cafe was a pleasant one. I'd go back.

The service is friendly and professional, and it's nice that I had the option of a few different teas, as many coffee shops simply offer "tea" as well as the coffees. The coffees available sit on a big set of shelves in large kilner jars, and a chiller by the main counter shows the sandwiches and snacks available, as well as a cake stand on the counter to tempt you! The service was quick, the tea was wonderful and they heated up my croissant so the cheese was just right (not over done!) My friend had a red velvet cake which was delicious and the latte she had was perfect (art and milk right temp- no burnt coffee!) It's so good to see something in Hulme, after living there for 4 years myself and not having anywhere to go! If I were living nearer I'd definitely be back more often.

It's a new cafe, come salad bar, come after hours bar in the new Vine House on the Birley Fields campus of MMU. Facing on Stretford Rd. It has the appearance of a NQ esque coffee shop, with lots of wood features, repurposed school desks and unfinished industrial heating. What it seems to lack for me is that care taken to produce quality food or drinks. It's clearly been put here to give the campus a less union/cafeteria option, but is so close to a dressed up cafeteria that it falls flat. Most unusual is the option to be open after business hours as a bar. They have 3 keg lines (2 currently offering Staropramen) and two cask lines both currently with cider. It may be quite a good option for those in the uni student accommodation in the same building with no desire to wander further afield. But I think these guys are even likely to wander to Oxford Rd at least. So I expect these extended hours to die off rather quickly. I'm sure it's more than sustainable in it's location with decent foot traffic from Oxford Rd to the new uni buildings. But I certainly wouldn't walk out of my way go here. They'll make your coffee to how you personally want it. All types go here, those working or those just wanting a sit down after shopping! Like most outlets Costa have a wise range or sandwiches or toasties! Cakes and lite bites alike to have a nibble on with your coffee! Costa at Oldham is pretty standard like most of them... But it's the customer service and quite ambience that keeps me coming back :)
