Don't go here. The guy who used to run it was so sweet. This new guy is rude, forgetful and acts like you're an inconvenience. I've stopped going as often because of this however, recently tried the place again and was met with rudeness from the guy working there. I never got what I ordered but he did give me a refund. As I walked away I vowed to never go there again. It's not nice to leave a nasty review and not a habit I make but this warrants it. Shame too because it's a cute spot. read more

A hidden gem on the corner for coffee and tea aficionados with the bonus of great snacks and dishes. Some highlights include their African red bush tea and chocolate or almond croissants as well as the fig, ricotta and proscuitto bruschetta. It's a great place to chat outside or indoors as well as get some work done. Several parents chill here before picking up kids from the pre-school across the street. The egg wrap was tasty, and appreciated the fact that it's a real cooked egg in there instead of a microwaved pre-mixed egg liquid. It was a bit on the smaller side but was enough for me given I wasn't too hungry. They observed distancing and mask guidelines well. The service at this little neighborhood cafe is just as wonderful as their food. My wife always gets the caprese sandwich that is always on point. She liked it with kalamate olives but since they don't have any pitted, they give us some on the side. It's just a small thing but the thoughtfulness counts. We walked in and the guy at the register was extremely rude. He snapped at us and stated they were closing, and we asked if we could buy something. **Use the Yelp check-in deal! ($15 for $10)** I've never roasted an establishment based on service-- I'm more into the food, value, and atmosphere. Seriously. Ugh! There's a first for everything I guess! Before I even placed my order I was barked at by the barista. Two young ladies lined up to place an order behind me and all three of us were scolded because we weren't standing close enough to the counter. Thankfully the young man that took my order was friendly and pleasant. I grabbed my number and made my way to a table outside to enjoy he amazing San Fran sunny weather. A few minutes passed and the crabby barista came out with my cappuccino. Again, she scolded me! She made some snide comment about how my coffee was probably cold because she was calling my number for awhile now. Um, you didn't think to go outside?!? It's not like this place is big or anything! The two young ladies that ordered behind me were now sitting at the table next to me, so they witnessed both of my scoldings. All three of us chuckled at how bizarre the barista's crappy attitude was and joked that she must be having a bad day. (On a side note, several yelp reviews mention this barista and her crappy attitude, so I doubt it was an off day) They decided that they didn't want to get yelled at by the barista so one of them went inside to pick up their drinks. Anyway, the coffee is excellent and the food is pretty good! The outdoor seating is great along the streets of this quiet part of North Beach. 5 stars for food and coffee, 2 stars for service (the order-taker guy was friendly). I always pass by this cute corner cafe on the way to Trader Joe's. There are always people sitting outside enjoying the sunshine, and I told myself I would eat here and enjoy myself the same next time. I came here famished, right before it was going to close at 4 pm, and got myself a turkey avocado panini. For $12, I was expecting more substance in between my bread. There was one slice of lettuce, two tinyyyyy slices of avocado, and a maybe two thin slices of turkey... I felt like I was just eating thick toasted bread because the ratio of bread to filings was 3:1. Maybe resources were low right before closing time, but for $12, I could've gone to Trader Joe's and gotten something much more substantial. read more

I was strolling from China town toward the water and spied this corner purveyor of coffee drinks, sweets and wi-fi and decided to give it a go if only for a double espresso and cantuccini, and a very well situated outside chair that provided sun and a view of all passersby. Cafe Cappriccio serves a lovely double espresso. The wait staff were attentive and relaxed. I'd go so far as to say that this is one of those little cafes that truly fits its location perfectly. Cafe Capriccio is a nice little spot on the corner of a not particularly famous North Beach corner. It is not a destination, and I think that this probably worked in its favor. The result is a nice little cafe which is not jumping off the hook. The things here are just fine. And, they don't force a contrived environment - it's already good enough to be on a nice corner of North Beach, with decent Sandwiches, Coffee, Wraps, Quiche and Breakfast items. Nice chill spot inside and a few tables outside. I've had lunch here a number of times - and I like their sandwiches. It takes a few minutes, but the ingredients are tasty and it comes on grilled bread and with a nice little salad. Says a Minnesotan: "I guess that's what they call a Panini." ... I didn't grow up in North Beach, but I like good Prosciutto, Mozzarella, Basil, Olive Oil, etc. I like a chill place to have a cup of coffee in the morning. BTW - They also have Iced Coffee, which is reasonably priced and packs a good pre-work punch. I'll keep going back when it's convenient. This place isn't going to become a scene so I feel comfortable recommending if you like the things that I just outlined, I hope you drop by and enjoy it as much as I have. 5 star croissants and other quality eats & drinks! I can't give the place 5 because the prices run a little high to me - but it's a solid 4 for sure. CROISSANTS- you want these - especially first thing in the morning. Story round here: the owner wakes up at 4am to make sure these are baked fresh by 7am. This is probably the 2nd best almond croissant I have had in SF, a good contender for those in Marin County. Without exposing my dirty past here, lets just say that I grew up with mad croissant hook-ups in Sausalito, Mill Valley, Larkspur and San Rafael from establishments that cater to European tourists. I was an overstuffed child with a mother who thought good parenting meant pimping European butter to me like I was one of her clients. And sadly, I've been bribed with food since I can remember - not naming any names, but I kept secrets for a certain baby sitter in exchange for bags of croissants from a touristy spot in Tiburon. I hit em hard but I also flipped a great deal. My point is that I have had my share of croissants and this ish right here is - bomB! Worth blowing up for. TAKE EM HOME FOR BRUNCH My girl sometimes brings them home when we prep brunch. Anything within a block under $10 that makes me wanna sing, has the potential to become part of me. I've been good about these until recently. Your warning: these aren't sweet, but the toasted almond one can produce bad girl affects. Butter, fingers, lips, hips, swallow, singing in public - "pour some [butta] on mey." Not sure you wanna hit this. SCENE We have been neighbors for almost three years. This is one of my go-tos to get stuff done because I like that my neighbors pop in and other students hang around to study. They have wifi, outlets, pillows, and a fair amount of seating. It can get busy, but I've never had trouble. The staff is way kicked back even after a spill- I like that. The music is always crack'n - a few times I have had to whip out Shazam. I don't know who puts together their playlists but I would probably buy their mixed CD. OTHER FOOD & DRINK TIPS - I'LL BE BRIEF Do get: mocha, latte, cappuccino DON'T get: regular coffee Do get: yogurt Parfait, salads, wraps, caprese sandwich, paninis, bagels w/ bacon egg and cheese, vegan donuts, warm baguette w/ nutella, pie, and pastries. Beer includes Big Daddy, Deschutes' Black Butte (love), Hef, Fat tire, Peroni. Wine changes. SPECIAL NOTE: DON'T get the prosciutto sandwich if you don't like prosciutto - no matter how bomb it looks. Really, it's a beautiful mountain of raw pig, everyone else is eating it. However, if that is not your thing - stick to your guns. Pulling prosciutto out of your panini here will get you dirty looks like you're sacreligious. read more

The best espresso I've ever had. Not kidding. Cafe Capriccio also (and not surprisingly) makes an amazing Americano, which I'm embarrassed to admit may be my favorite type of coffee these days. There's is so flavorful and delicious I think I may be forever spoiled. I've now been here multiple times, and am able to report that the food is delicious as well. They make a delicious roast beef and cheese panini made with a thick baguette bread that kept me full all day; the vegetarian caprese sandwich is also great. They serve it up with thick slices of mozzarella, tomato, and pesto sauce with a side salad, and I was sad when it was gone. I may have even licked my fingers. My friend tried the quiche - a bold move, since it's such a hit-or-miss kind of dish - but we both agreed that it was cheesy deliciousness. The ambiance is casual and quiet; even when it's crowded, most people are on their computers. There's a larger table for groups, and outdoor seating is plentiful and lovely on sunny days. If you're in the 'hood and want to escape (or, even better, avoid) the hubbub of Fisherman's Wharf, put this cafe on your list. read more

The Caffe Menu is not beyond extraordinary, and the food is rustic, though nothing compelling to write home about. However it does the job of serving its local neighborhood well, and the service is sincere, warm, and friendly, which is a big plus and the reason why I always come back when I'm in the area as opposed to the nearest Starbucks or Peets. I absolutely enjoyed my visit. What I experienced was the heart of local business all throughout the world. This place, my fellow Yelpers, is worth a visit. It's a few blocks from the touristy piers. It's located on a corner in a nice neighborhood. Bring your laptop or tablet. Bring a friend. Stay a while. Sit inside or grab a seat outside and sunbathe. There's wifi with no password. I only had a blueberry cheese danish and an iced mocha. Both were hits. If you know me well, then you know cheese danishes are a weakness of mine. This danish was amazing. My iced mocha had enough sweetness without an overpowering sugar taste. What really made my visit here so memorable was how friendly the staff was. I started off sitting outside in the shade and they brought my food to me. I was a bit cold so I moved inside and I saw how friendly everyone was with every person that walked through their doors. I could have easily picked up and gone somewhere else to kill time (I was on my laptop) but I felt so at home at this cafe. I ended up staying for about three hours. Kudos to this great place. I LOVE this place! I live nearby and it's my neighborhood breakfast / lunch / coffee spot. Every time I'm there and see tourists who have stumbled upon it, it makes me happy they've found this local gem that is sure to make them fall in love with San Francisco and North Beach. Their egg wrap is my favorite! It's prepared to order with a real egg and the lightly dressed greens they put in it are amazing. It's delicious and such a nice alternative to a greasy egg wrap or burrito and I always feel great after eating it. Their coffee is really good too! They're just a block or two up from Starbucks and their coffee is SO MUCH BETTER. Their service is also great. They are super friendly and they've taken great COVID precautions. It's also really nice that you can see them making the food so you know that it's clean and safely prepared. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

This cafe is so close to my place that I'm kinda ashamed I didn't hang out here much more often. Although the Starbucks nearby isn't so bad *ambiance wise* really. The space is kinda tiny and there's really only 1 table where I can look outside. I've tried many of their food/drink: americano, cappuccino, almond croissant, plain croissant, and chai latte. All are really good, although the chai latte is a tad too sweet. Too bad they can't adjust the sweetness other than by reducing the chai powder amount. It's still really good though! I love the outdoor seating on Chestnut st. Very sunny and don't get too much foot traffic. This city needs more cafe with good outdoor seatings. read more

Out door seating if you wanna kick in some vitamin D on a sunny day, out door seating if u cant afford a shower on a rainy day. Excellent for studying, or reading, with the assistance of free wifi. I've been a regular at this cafe for about 2 years for my cup a joe, but it's there Lattes that bring the real shine. I've been here a couple of times, and I always love the atmosphere. It's very relaxing, and there's free Wi-fi, so it's a great place to study. BUT ("[someone] once told me that nothing someone says before the word 'but' really counts") They are quite racist here. My girlfriend ordered a chai latte, and we had to go get it from the counter ourselves. The lady (a different ethnicity than us) at the table adjacent to ours ordered a macchiato... but she got it hand delivered. She also ordered a slice of pie... and got that delivered as well (both by different servers). And she got a heart in it. Still coming back for the cozy setting, but you'd expect better treatment from a cafe in San Francisco. Guess discrimination never goes out of style. read more

Think in terms of Blue Bottle / Ritual here... The new owners Jesse & Alex, while very young - have put a lot of effort into making sure the espresso drinks are of great quality. Just check out my pics here on Yelp ! Cappuccinos & lattes are made "Blue Bottle" style - with that great micro-foamed steamed milk, with the beans courtesy of Ecco Coffee (Sonoma). The barista in the mornings seems to put a lot of effort into each drink - you may be waiting for a minute longer - but the results - AWESOME. I was on an extensive hunt for the best coffee in SF as well as the best patisserie/boulangerie. Though I don't think I found THE best, I must say their baristas are AMAZING but their food is just ok, ambience is casual and warm. Overall, I would go back if I am in the area, but I didn't fall in love with it. First, we got a mocha and a hot chocolate. Take it from a barista with 10 years experience when I say you can't really mess up a hot chocolate, it was still perfectly balanced between sweet tasting, foam, and delicious cocoa (I think it is a sauce not a powder, fyi). As for the mocha, excellent. The foam was sweet and delicious with just under a half inches worth - perfect. They did some latte art as well, which I have NEVER been able to do - try as I might. The mocha was perfectly balanced with the richness of the espresso. The espresso itself was full bodied but not over powering, not too acidic, and very aromatic. Whatever their blend is, I appreciated. Food wise, I think the quality of the breakfast sandwiches I got were ok. Nothing to brag about. I was starving and just wanted something so I wouldn't be hangry anymore. I must say, their lunch menu looked more to be desired than breakfast - they also seemed to be lacking in the pastry/bread department but we got their around 10 so it could have been taken by the morning rush. I would be interested to try some of their lunch sandwiches and paninis. Finally, the location wasn't too bad. It was only two or three blocks away from Hotel Zephr (our hotel, go check out my review!!). So essentially 3-4 blocks away from the piers. I will definitely go back for coffee, skip it if you want something spectacular for food. I just try to support local businesses over chain places. I will still be on the look out for the best coffee place (the one I looked at was closed for renos). Honestly, the mocha sold me. Consistent? Not sure since I have only been here once. read more

TL;DR: I had one tiny slice of ham on my ham and cheese bagel, and they were out of two things I wanted. This place was pretty disappointing considering its rating. Traveling here from Portland I was looking for a good breakfast sandwich and coffee to have fuel for walking around. Ordered a chai, they're out. Okay no big. I'll take a latte. Ordered a ham and cheese croissant, no croissants. Hm okay. I'll take a ham and cheese bagel. There was A slice of processed ham on my bagel with cheese that was barely toasted. Like one. The funny thing is I was charged the full 5.95 for a ham and cheese croissant. Also on their menu if you were to add ham or bacon to any other sandwich it's $1.50! I'll be walking straight to the pier for a cup of clam chowder I swear I'm not hard to please, this girl just wants a little protein!
