their banana bread with chocolate chips is unbeatable. the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is super cozy. highly recommended.

This place has just the right mix of superb drinks/food and refreshing/fun atmosphere. As out-of-towners we stumbled onto this place on a late afternoon and indulged in some killer cold-brewed coffee and handcrafted granola bars. The second day we tried out the kale chips, the pressed sandwiches and the espresso drinks---all very fresh and tasty. The downstairs space has some great lounge-y chairs and work spaces for those urban entrepreneurial nomads in need of caffeine and wifi. Nice touches such as indoor bike racks, lots of comfy seating, and a good vibe from the staff make me want to come back to Tucson for more sunny winter days at Sparkroot. One minor gripe made me give out four stars instead of five. They pull Blue Bottle Coffee Co. instead of a local bean and since I've heard there are some really good roasters in town, it'd be great to see one of those roasters featured on the menu instead of a CA company. read more

Excellent lattes; honestly, I think they are almost exactly the same as Caffe Luce's. I did like the vintage, hip vibe, and I think it's great how you can get a vegetarian sandwich and a glass of wine. The horchata popsicles for $2 sound great, so I'll have to get one sometime soon. read more

I've been here a handful of times now..nice ambience, they've always been very welcoming, expedient, helpful, and friendly!..,excellent coffee and tea, and they have almond and organic dairy. Okay here's the deal: Sparkroot is a tragedy to me, because prior to this new year their coffee was the best in Tucson. Even after they switched from Blue Bottle Coffee (RIP my fav ever) to Ritual Coffee, it was still good. Now that they're using Café Lucé beans though, the coffee is just mediocre. Every latte I've gotten so far with the new beans (and I've had many!) has been just inconsistently meh with doubly gross coffee bean grounds at the bottom. I used to be a die hard Sparkroot fan but it's waning now. Please bring Blue Bottle back - otherwise, Sparkroot remains a gem in terms of ambience and food. But it is of course a COFFEE shop, and right now the coffee kind of sucks. read more

I've had to drop my rating and it may go lower still -- What is really responsible for the rating involves the musical decisions being made. It seems like little effort is being made with the music. Alannis Morissette, seriously? Pearl Jam acoustic stuff? Matchbox 20? That's what you're playing in a coffee shop? I sincerely hope to see an effort to play interesting and not horrifically dated and/or irrelevant music. This place had more attitude when it was Sparkroot and I am nostalgic. read more

Among the best iced coffee I've ever had, and I love the ambiance. I can see how the baristas could be perceived as short or condescending, but they kept it real and I'm okay with that. I love the vibe in this place, and the NOLA iced coffee is to die for. I can't imagine going back to Tucson any time soon, but if and when I do this will be a definite stop. read more

things. have. changed. I live near campus and used to drive down here several times a week to eat, sip coffee and cram/study. There were several highlights here for me, most of which are no longer available. The crowd has dwindled and the final outcome is yet to be established. I will no longer recommend this location nor travel downtown for the following specific reasons: 1. they no longer offer Gluten free bread. I could order sandwiches, toast, etc and study here and sustain self with food and coffee. this was a huge motivator for me to settle in and support this local business. 2. they no longer off the NOLA or the nola equivalent, a special sweetened coffee that was unparalleled. Now it is just the same old coffee options. I will just stick with Raging Sage and the other shops nearer my house. 3. They no longer offer the flavored sodas. My go to was a combo vanilla-hibiscus. Gone. 4. New unfamiliar faces. Everyone is nice but clearly discouraged by the state of transition. (and probably the bevy of disappointed customers like myself) I provide 2 vs 1 star since the frontline staff were very friendly and the interior is still a unique study space near the downtown Yoga Oasis and other convenient destinations. However, I will only come back if I happen to be a passer-by. This is a sad day for me as Tucson struggles to supply an inspiring coffee culture, something always is lacking. . . The internet sucks, the clientelle are scary, the space is crowded, the coffee is gross....Sparkroot's only weakness was being downtown which I would deal with. I also provide this review as a means to communicate my frustrations with the new owners in hopes that when I next pass through some of my favorites have returned, ESPECIALLY the gluten free bread! read more

Sparkroot is gorgeous, it has all the right ingredients for a beautiful atmosphere, the reclaimed wood and metal decor is stunning. The coffee did nothing for me, however. I had a hard time accepting it because the prices are reasonable and the location is great, but the espresso I ordered yesterday tasted like breakfast cereal. I really don't know how else to describe it, just bland and with a barley aftertaste that was not pleasant.. A friend brought me an iced latte this morning and it had the same flavor and aftertaste. I willing to try them out again, thinking it might just be growing pains, or I might just not vibe with the roast. Despite my disappointment with the coffee, I'll go back to try the food, which sounds promising.. read more

I came in on thursday night around 6pm and there wasn't too many people inside. I was the only one in line and I asked the girl at the register (the barista) what kind of chocolate was used in the mocha and she responded in a dry, bored manner " it's high quality chocolate.." After I ordered the mocha I asked the girl at the register if she could put less chocolate than normal because I didn't want it too sweet and she said "well, I eyeball it.." and then a different girl came out from the back and blurted out in an aggressive, irritated way " We put 50 grams of chocolate in it.. what do you want 40??". I replied calmly and kindly, " how about 30? thank you." I then watched the barista make the drink and she didn't measure the chocolate at all. The overall experience was awkward and the employees were extremely rude and not helpful at all. They made me feel like I shouldn't have even asked them any questions or even try to alter my drink. It's a coffee shop, making customer specified drinks is their job you would think they would know that and offer at least a little customer friendly service.. I won't be going back. read more

Ooh, how I enjoyed their homemade sun butter. Employees are always so kind every time. They have a great selection of tea, and they make sure that's it's steeped long enough before it's ready to be given. There are so many outlets, it's perfect for those needing to do work, study, etc. And they have a large table with several benches, just perfect for a meeting with the laptops. :-) Thank you! read more

Favorite coffee shop ever. The Nola is pretty much like drinking elixir of life - a titch of chicory and half and half (?) and however they brew it with a bit of sugar just makes my brain buzz with delight :) My husband and I went out of our way in Oakland, CA to get Blue Bottle coffee after trying it at Sparkroot and were not at all disappointed there, either. Also had their goat cheese and spinach? basil? sandwich and it was delicious! A biiit too hipster to really fit my style in terms of ambiance, but the vibe doesn't bother me since the coffee is so freaking good. read more

Sparkroot simply is the best. It offers Down Town Tucson a healthy, organic and fun location to eat. Most if not all the food is made fresh daily. The coffee and ice tea is awesome, and the food is to die for. I love meat but every now and then a meat free meal is fine, especially if it comes from Sparkroot. My personal favorite is the pressed sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, and basil its sooo good. read more

This place is an example of what is not right with downtown shops. It is pretentious and paying 6.50 for granola is shameful. I asked about what comes with the 4.00 version on the menu - and the answer was nothing. So if you want to eat it like it is meant to be eaten with yougurt or milk - it is another 2.50. There is also only one size for coffee - 12 oz. which is small and expensive (2.50) and ironically called Giant. The coffee is also made using the espresso machine - so, there is a wait. There is a wait with everything - including cc processing, There were not enough employees, so I felt rushed asking questions of the nervous cashier and was continually directed to the wall menu. I had to remind her that I had not beeen there before. So, overall this place is a bubble not unlike some of the other downtown joints that think way too much of themselves. Huge turnoff and the food and coffee were fine, but not outstanding. read more
