I am so beyond impressed with this restaurant! I ordered the Mezzi Rigatoni Alla Vodka and added Burrata and loads of red pepper flakes because I love spicy pasta. It was SO GOOD! Our table was brought a variety of breads and marinara. The marinara tasted so fresh. My table also ordered calamari, a classic chicken parm dish, and a vodka chicken parm dish and there wasn't a single crumb left. The drinks were also delicious here! I ordered a few glasses of sangria and they were perfect. Our server was very attentive and super friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant was also so cozy, and it felt like you were dining in Italy. This place inspired me to write my very first review on Yelp. Let's break it down. When I first walked in I felt the scenery could be used for a scene in a movie or a series. The music gave me a sense of nostalgia like I've been here before but, it was my first time. Its warm aesthetic and welcoming people made it pleasant to be there. Not only was the venue solid but the pizza was deliciously made. It was my first pie on the east coast and was not disappointed. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay for long as my order was to go. I visited Cafe Bello on a Monday evening for dinner and the place was surprisingly packed. Parking It's not easy to find a parking spot in the area. You might need to park a few blocks away so keep that in mind. Reservations They take reservations but I didn't make one since I went on a Monday evening but there were only 2 available tables once I arrived so next time I will reserve. Food Food is DELICIOUS. They give a complimentary garlic bread which is great. Fried calamari and the 5 cheese pizza were also delicious. I was afraid the pizza was going to have a strong cheesy flavor but it was just like a cheesy margherita, I definitely recommend it. By the way, one pizza should be enough for 2 people especially if you order an appetizer. Remember, they serve a delicious complimentary garlic bread. Ambiance It's a small restaurant and when it's crowded the acoustic is bad, it's difficult to hear and have a conversation with someone across from you. This is the only thing I didn't like about this place. Once some people left it got better. They had some ambiance music but you couldn't hear anything, just people talking loud. Price Price is fair for the quality of the food. Make sure you ask for the drink menu, I have no idea why the waiter didn't bring it along with the other menus once we arrived. P/S - I was reading other reviews and although I personally had a positive experience some people didn't, which is totally fine, but I didn't like the owners response to some of them. I sensed a little arrogance. P/S 2 - Cafe Bello, add your drink menu to your website along with the food/pizza menus and have the waiters bring them all. I rated this place a 4 because I called previous to my arrival and they said getting a table shouldn't be difficult and we would get one right when we walked in. When we got there, we were told we needed to wait 10 minutes which turned into 30 mins. 30 minutes with a 5 year old is a bit annoying. However, the food was amazing and was definitely worth it. We just need accurate information when we call. The bread basket was so good we honestly ate the entire basket! The meal i got was the rigatoni alla vodka with burrata. 10/10 soooo good! I have been going to Cafe Bello for about 25 years. We went there three years ago with my family. My sister found a hair in her food., we didn't complain about it because it was a favorite of ours. Welp, I went there Friday night with my husband, and I found a hair in my vegetables again. I mean, I understand it's human error but they really have to be careful. I really think that they rushed our dinner. It was out within like seven minutes flat and they had a full house. The food has really become mediocre. I love the ambience of the place and I do love their coffee and dessert, but the food is not as good as it used to be at all. Also, finding hair in my food has really turned me off. They really should wear hair nets in the kitchen. I understand all of the waiters have to carry the food out, but the hair was in the middle of my vegetables. So gross. I really hate leaving a bad review, but I feel it had to be mentioned so it doesn't keep happening. I made reservations for 12 people for 6:30, when I get there I approach someone who works there and told him my name and informed him that it would be 10 people, he said the reservation I made was for 7 people so I corrected him and he said to give them a few minutes, so I did but that few minutes turned into 30 minutes. We finally get seated in a corner by the bathroom which was cold, but we didn't complain and stayed. We ordered wine and i had to send my glass back because it was visibly dirty and so was the plate on the table. It took long for the appetizers to come out and way too long for the main dish to come out. Needless to say most of the people at the table were not impressed by the food, the food lacked flavor. Staff was friendly - sometimes slow with clearing plates and the food took awhile but the service was pleasant. Tried the octopus and artichoke on their specials menu. It was really good. Super expensive for such a small appetizer though. Over $20. We ordered their pizza. My husband had the prosciutto and arugula pie and I had a pepperoni pie. It was good! Crust was crispy. Pie is definitely shareable. We shared the pizza and still had some leftover. Would definitely return to try other items on the menu. Parking is a pain here. You will definitely be circling around to find a spot. If you don't live too far, would definitely recommend walking. read more

This rating is relative to a café. It's a great café. I've eaten there twice at lunch. Everything I've eaten was delicious, everything I saw other people eat looked great. This week I had a seafood salad, it was perfectly good size for lunch. Did not need anything else. Good mixture of seafood (shrimp, scallop, calamari), well marinated with some fresh greens. I don't like seafood salad with too much fresh greens, the seafood should be the star, and here it is. The café itself is nice. The food were all well made. The meatballs were not too bready or overcooked. Pasta and pizza were also done well. Service was excellent and attentive. Cafe Bello has been consistently excellent since I first started going there as a kid in the 90s. I've eaten there probably close to 50 times and I've never had a bad bite of food. Traditional Italian dishes like your pasta, parmigiana, saltimbocca, etc., are excellent. They really shine with the rotating fish specials and their fresh pastas. Potentially hot take: they make the best pizza in Bayonne. 14" pies that an ambitious person could easily take down in a sitting are made in front of your face at the bar, with excellent ingredients and a thin crust that finds that magic combo of chewy and crispy. The alla vodka with shrimp is in my top 3 favorite pizzas ever, anywhere. Service is usually on point and prices are appropriate. The general volume is never too much and they let the natural hum of the crowd be the background for the dining experience. It's Jersey, so someone might be laughin' a bit too loud, but that never hurt no one. read more

The food was surprisingly mediocre. Not bad, but nothing above or beyond what you'd get at a standard Italian restaurant in Anytown, USA. Cheese wedges were particularly meh. Bread basket was very good. No free refills of soda is tacky, and even worse when waiter offers a refill without announcing this. Unlikely to return. UPDATE: owner suggested that I'm used to free refills because they are endemic to fast food. I don't eat fast food, but I do eat everything from corner mom & pops to Michelin Stars, almost none which nickel and dime customers for soda. Then again, almost none post passive aggressive responses to 3 star reviews, so I guess Cafe Bello just does things differently. read more

Very homey with filling portions and great service. We ordered for pickup, arrived in 20 minutes, and did not have to wait any additional time. Bread and tomato focaccia was included in our order which was a very pleasant surprise. We ordered the Bianca al Prosciutto Crudo without the prosciutto crudo to make it vegetarian and the Calamari alla Toscana. Both were good, but nothing spectacular. I continue to tell everyone that Bayonne is a hidden gem for food, so I'm happy to say that Cafe Bello backed me up. The food and service were great, and the atmosphere is fine and casual at the same time. You certainly don't need an occasion to come here, but if you do, it's a great place to have it. We started off with the mozzarella wedges, which were perfectly fried and came with their standard marinara, which was very good as well. Additionally we had the sausage and broccoli rabe app, which was delicious. For the entrees, we split the papardelle pasta with a cream sauce to die for, and the pork chop. I recommend both. We finished off with a fresh-filled cannoli. I haven't had one that good since my days in NY. Can't recommend it enough. I will be back. read more
