For our entrees, I got the taco truck dinner with pork pivil as my meat of choice. The meat was juicy, tender and had lots of flavor! The pinto beans had a nice smoky flavor. My boyfriend got the queso chimichanga. It didn't come with rice and beans, as they are inside the chimichanga. We both agreed, the queso was a nice addition to the chimichanga. Our three tacos for the taco truck dinner ($14) were chicken, chorizo and carnitas with the chorizo standing out amongst the three with better seasoning. The guacamole had a strong citrus flavor which I am a fan of and the salsa was complimentary! I would HIGHLY recommend the best burrito ($15) as they did not skimp on any ingredient, especially the flavorful pork pibil. My only qualm was that the rice was undercooked and slightly crunchy, but otherwise an affordable and tasty restaurant for a date night. The first time I had Cafe Corazon was in December 2011, with a friend. It was chaotic inside, but the food was great. I loved the variety of the menu, especially the vegetarian options, which are hard to come by in a lot of Mexican restaurants. In the past few years since I've moved back to Milwaukee, I've eaten at this location several times. It's about 6 blocks from my house and I still find veggie Mexican options to be rarer than I'd like. Generally the food is good, if no longer great. I wonder if their expansion and success has spread them thin over the years. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes it's like an afterthought. I've also ordered delivery from them many times and it's been generally fine, but not often great. Tonight I ordered delivery, paid extra for expedited service, and I really just wanted some good cheese and onion enchiladas. The delivery time was quick. Despite that, my food was cold. My black beans - literally cold. The cheese enchiladas - um, the cheese on top wasn't even melted. The rice had no flavor at all, like it could have literally been plain white, tepid rice. So I don't know what is going on at Cafe Corazon, but it's just not good anymore and that makes me really sad. read more

November 2025: I went to Cafe Corazon in Riverwest with three family members to celebrate a birthday. Two of the family members are ADA. When we arrived, we were welcomed by staff and seated at a lovely booth at the back of the restaurant near the restroom, which was perfect. There was enough space for us all and the location was what we preferred. Very accommodating. Our waitress was wonderful and friendly! I believe her name was Selene. She provided exceptional customer service. For lunch, I ordered the avocado salad with chicken and it was amazing! Fresh, quality ingredients, filling, and I liked the seasoning on the chicken. My family ordered the steak tacos, both Mexican and American style, and the breakfast tacos on the brunch menu. We all loved our food! (Granted, it's small lol) Corazon Salad Asked for the beans and rice on the side, and the salad was super yummy with shrimp as protein. The shrimp was scrumptious, fat and juicy. We had been here (Brown Deer location) in the winter and enjoyed the food, so we were looking forward to this repeat visit. This time the food -- salsa, guacamole, chips, empanadas -- all were bland and lacking flavor. There was no salt and pepper or Mexican sauces on the table, either. The chorizo in my vegan burrito, on the other hand, was too spicy (and I enjoy spice) to enjoy -- I couldn't taste any other flavors. The service was fast and friendly, and the margarita was excellent. Did the chef change? I don't know the reason why our experience was so different this time, but it was very disappointing. Everyone I know has recommended café Corazón. I finally went there and was so underwhelmed with their food. I have no idea what people see in this place. The food was bland. The guacamole tasted like it was made from preserved avocados so it had that weird citric acid tangy flavor. The only thing good was the salsa which I had to smother my food with since it had no flavor. Their bar looks like it was bigger than their kitchen. If I have to go there another time I'm sure I will load up on drinks. Maybe it'll make their food taste better. The people who worked there were very nice. read more

Solid Mexican spot with a cute patio (perfect for a summer day) located in a hip area of the north side of Milwaukee. I walked over here with some friends since they recently bought a home in the area and it was a perfect Sunday lunch spot for us. I ordered one of their wet burritos and it was very filling and delicious. I do have to point out that the green salsa that they have at the table is SOOO good and has a great kick to it. Some people might not be able to handle it, but I loved it so much that I asked for a few containers of it to-go. Soooo good! Jesus Christ and really good food are what's waiting for you at this cute little spot! I had never been to this particular location, but I was not disappointed. Due to a last minute change in our dining plans, we decided to come here, but the wait was less than 30 minutes. The entrance is a little crowded with minimal waiting space, but you are welcome to wait at the bar with a drink. Once we were seated, we were initially hit with a mouthwatering smell of fajitas thanks to the table next to us. I ordered their special drink of the day, the tamarind margarita which, to be honest, was the only disappointing part of the dinner. While tasty, the tamarind flavor was very light and barely discernible to my palate. The food, however, was exactly what I wanted and remembered. Of note, the spicy salsa verde that came with the complimentary chips definitely packed a punch (and was equally flavorful) and was available in a bottle for your table! The chips were warm, well seasoned, and tasted great even on its own. The burritos were large (too large for us to finish). My husband got soy chorizo in his which he loved. I got sautéed veggies in mine covered with half and half of red and green enchilada sauce. I enjoyed the green sauce a lot more than the red (which was more smoky). I used the spicy salsa verde as a hot sauce for my burrito and it made it taste even better. I am looking forward to taking my leftovers to work tomorrow - the only reason I'm looking forward to work. We will be back! read more

I hadn't been to Cafe Corazon in years, they've made some changes since covid hit. The dining room used to be right in front of the kitchen (which was a bit cramped) but it's now in the back of the restaurant which is great. In the warmer months you can eat on the patio. During busy times with a wait, you can put your name on a list for a table and even order a drink from the hostess. I like to think of this place as "healthier" Mexican food because it's not covered with pounds of cheese and you can actually get some decent vegan protein options. I went with the enchiladas, one cheese and one soy chorizo split with red and green sauce. Very tasty, but again, not your typical tex-mex. The side of rice and beans was pretty good too. My sister got a veggie burrito and it was large enough that she saved half for later. Free chips and salsa! The service was good, we short wait and our server was friendly and offered suggestions. Cute and colorful latin joint that was walking distance from my Airbnb. I commend places that make an effort to authenticity, which this place does/the meat is from the wife's family farm, and some of the produce is grown at the couple's urban garden, one of the owners is Hispanic as well. I think that stuff is important! It shows that they as a business are committed to as genuine a dining experience as possible. Food wasn't bad, margarita was pretty good, they have a breakfast menu which I'm interested to go back and try. Lots of young and hip folk inside the building/a little too turnt and loud for my liking, as the dining space for the Riverwest location is a bit small/intimate. Friendly staff! If you go on a weekend night, be comfortable with a potentially long wait, I was quoted over an hour, but was called back within 20 minutes as a table had opened up. Not too shabby! read more

This is a great restaurant that has become my go to mexican food. I've had it delivered twice and eaten there once and every time the food has been top notch. All the proteins are well seasoned and cooked perfectly, the sauces are flavorful, and the portions are generous. The staff were super friendly. The bartender talked to my toddler while we waited for a table, and our waitress got down to my toddlers eye level and interacted with her a number of times. She was also extremely attentive to the table. Finally, the atmosphere is amazing. It's in a classic milwaukee house bar that is covered with colorful art and pride flags. As an lgbtqia+ family we felt really safe and welcome here. The whole place exudes warmth and welcoming. I have only two critiques: I didn't see a handicap accessible entrance. Fortunately I didn't need to use my cane or walker today but that might have presented a challenge if I had been using them. The other is the chairs have these side brackets that were about 5 inches narrower than my hips. Neither a dealbreaker but I hope they at least think about accessibility for the future. read more

I ordered delivery from Cafe Corazón shortly before closing time on a Friday. Here's what I got: 1. Taco Box - Soy Chorizo : tasted standard, enjoyable, satisfied my protein craving, every soy chorizo I've ever had no matter what restaurant has been a little dry so if they added some water to it while cooking that could help, still met my expectations. - Herb Tofu: tasted okay, I wasn't wildly impressed the flavor wasn't memorable - Sautéed Vegetables: YES CAFE CORAZÓN!!!! This is how you do a vegetarian taco!!! The flavor was excellent!!!!! There were a few different types of veggies and I gobbled this down so fast. GREAT TACO. This is the type of taco I will be thinking about when my tummy is hungry. This is the taco I regret eating so fast because I want more. - No sauces, lime slices, lettuce, or other toppings were provided with the tacos. The vegetable taco didn't need anything but the soy chorizo and tofu taco definitely would've benefited from some lime or sauce. - Rice: had some sort of unique herbal flavor, lacking the typical Spanish tomato flavor, still tasted good. - Refried pinto beans: the flavor was subtle not overpowering, I would say the minimal amount of seasoning if any to create delicious beans - Black beans (whole): I love beans so I still liked these but I did notice they were not as flavorful as the pinto, maybe this is a good thing because you can salt it to your own taste! 2. Nachos, Soy Chorizo, 1/2 1/2 beans, Extra Green Salsa, Chips - I made a major error here while ordering. I saw special options, some said no guac no chips and another one said "chips" so I thought well yeah! I want chips!!! I want extra chips!!!! I always want chips with my nachos!!! So I clicked the chips option.... Big mistake guys. Don't do this. Turns out, it will lead to receiving a container of nacho toppings without chips. LOL - Did not receive the green salsa in my mush of toppings - mush of toppings is not terrible eaten with a spoon, would advise to not mess with the menu options so you get chips - comes with cheese whiz rather than legit cheese which is a little sad Overall assessment is that the sautéed veggie taco is so delicious I would 100% order from here again!!!! Oh, Café Corazón, you have my heart! My boyfriend and I found this place on Yelp when we moved here last August . We've eaten here and have ordered take out; we haven't been disappointed yet. I absolutely love the vibe of this place. It gives me the feeling that all are welcome... Love that there is art everywhere! The food is high quality. We always fill up on the chips - crispy, thin, and addictive. The Queso is creamy goodness! I've had the enchildas, tostadas, and tacos so far. All very yummy with fresh ingredients! My boyfriend's fave is the Best Burrito. It's huge, so you better have an appetite. Margaritas are on point. The last time we were there, my boyfriend ordered a Mezcal Margarita. He loved it; too smokey for me. The bartenders always steer you in the right direction if you're not sure what you want. The staff is friendly and service is fairly quick. It's not just a save the turtles thing, it's a save the world by doing one small thing at a time I still didn't mention the food. Their food is delish! Lots of great flavor. I've been here several times, but will highlight one visit and mention some entrees I remember! try their chips and salsa and order a side of guacamole, you may want to use a spoon to pick out the guac without breaking the chips. Don't be afraid to ask for more chips when you run out quick. but for now I will highlight their carnitas enchiladas, they're juicy and flavorful not bland , the corn was moist, not dry. Drink some sangria with that and then top it off with whipped cream topping tres leches cake. Or a red velvet cake. Food is overpriced but fine. Service, however, was sh*t. Bartender (Mason) refused to honor the happy hour price, and then was oddly hesitant to bring me a box for food to go. The space was nearly empty for most of my visit, yet getting the bartender's attention was like pulling teeth. The restaurant did get some customers toward the end of my visit but, from the way they reacted, the staff collectively acted like they'd never seen more than 30% of tables full. So odd, given that this place has been relatively great for the last many many years. Hope the owner enjoys the extra $4 in cash flow. I have no plans to return. read more
