Fries were cold, aioli too spicy and had some mysterious stuff in it; 'Veronica' had to check if they could make nachos without chili con carne, but she was pretty sure they came with it already on the chips.... What the hell kind of pre-made garbage is she used to eating?!? They finally came, with too little guacamole, and too spicy. Nothing special, just like what you can make at home... The glass was dirty; there were blankets and it was cold but the staff didn't offer one. Other than that the one male waiter in his 30's we had was friendly and spoke English well. Cafe Extrablatt's breakfast buffet is great. Fresh scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, broetchen and croissants, along with fruit, cheese, etc. It's much butter than even the breakfast buffet over at the expensive Maritim hotel (Bellevue), which costs a whole lot more. It's my daughter's favorite place to hang out with me in the mornings. The food is fresh and delicious, and the waiters/waitresses are young and very nice. Highly recommended! read more

Wanted something quick and easy but when I went in it wasn't what I expected. This place wasn't a cafe it was a restaurant with two floors. You could compare this place to a Burger chain restaurant in the US maybe like a Jonny Rockets. The burger I ordered was the Cesar but got a regular burger so I don't know the name of it. Nothing special about the burger though to be honest, it had cucumber on it which I have never had before so that was new. The fries were like McDonald French Fries and they were even served in a tiny deep fryer to let you know how uninspiring they were. I probably will never get a burger here again but from looking what other people ordered I think a Wrap is the way to go. Seems like the popular choice for lunch. read more

My wife and I walked in at 8:30am. A rude waitress replied us in an unfriendly look and voice that all the tables are reserved, as if we were intruding in her work.This is a two story cafe and with only two gentleman sitting at one table, that's it. Then another waitress who was very kind tried to pass us the menu. But I found out that they don't serve breakfast until 9:00am. It's fine, but the first rude waitress should have informed us. We then went to X11 Apostel hereby which provided excellent service at EURO$12.50 per person a decent breakfast buffet. What a difference. read more

We had a fairly last-minute trip to Germany, so we didn't plan ahead and we know that's a big no-no when it comes to restaurants. Well, we stumbled upon a Christmas market while looking for another place we found on Yelp and of course it was booked. After walking through the Christmas market, we found this place. Not being hopeful, we walked in and we immediately seated (right next to the door, but it was a place to sit with food!). Our server was a very nice young lady who helped explain things to us even though we noticed later that English was in small print under the German. Oops! It had been a long day. So, my husband got two beers, I got a large cocktail, and we each got a schnitzel. I got regular, and he got it with broccoli and hollandaise sauce and each came with fries. So good! I wasn't expecting a great meal out of this place, but it was a great surprise. The fries aren't the best in the world, but I enjoyed them. And the schnitzel was perfect. I couldn't have been happier with the food, bill (~ 30 Euros), and service in a place that obviously caters to tourists. Would definitely go back! read more

Came here with my family because of the good reviews, but when we looked at the menu things went downhill. The selection of food can only be described as of the cafeteria variety. Not that the food was bad, but I figure if you're in Germany, maybe you want to eat at places that offer a taste of local cuisine, or even European cuisine, rather than pizza and burgers. To be honest the only reason we went into this restaurant was that it accept credit card payments though the Yelp comment weren't actually positive. However, it stays true to its price and we fed ourselves well with limited amount of money. We ordered 2 hot teas, an "afpelstudel', a lasagna as an "afternoon tea"ish meal and 2 wraps to go, which was only 34 euros in total. The environment was light and more of a young people place rather than traditional food restaurant or family place. It should not take 20 minutes to serve an espresso. I also have never been served an espresso that's spent 15 minutes sitting on a tray being carried around outdoors on a cold day. When in Germany, do like the Germans do. Like having breakfast on Sunday in a cafe. Many people recommended us this placefor it's breakfast buffet and it was worth it for sure! Large buffet with different kinds of bread, croissant, meat, cheese, fruit and juice whatsoever. All fresh and monitored continiously. On top of that friendly staff. We were lucky that we could have a table without making a reservation, when we left every single table was in use. So make a reservation when you plan to have breakfast here (at least on Sundays)! read more

Twice I've been to Cologne, and both times I've have brunch here. While their regular menu isn't really traditional German cuisine, their brunch certainly is...and then some. First, it's served buffet style. You will find the traditional bread, cheese, and cold cuts. The most delicious flakey croissants! There is a variety of hot and cold cereals. Yogurt with fruit and granola toppings. Milchreis and rote grütze that is off the charts delicious. There are all the makings for a full English breakfast. Then to top it all off, there is a desert bar filled with pudding, fruit, donuts and sweet rolls. The brunch comes with orange juice, so coffee is an extra purchase. In the end, our bill was just around 30€. Good food, good price, and great atmosphere. I will say that the seating can be a little tight. Also, the first time we went was a quiet, rainy day. The second time we went was a beautiful weather day, so everybody was out! It was crowded, and loud. None the less, the energy in the cafe was wonderful. We DID have a hard time tracking down the waiter so we could pay our bill. That was a little frustrating. Still, I give Extrablatt 5 stars! read more

Last year when I visited Cologne I ate here twice because it was so good! Nice atmosphere (great music, layout, comfortable, not as compact like a typical German restaurant). I am one to try something new, but at this restaurant I am literally stuck on the Pizza Caprese (which is pretty much a pizza margherita; topped with slices of mozzarella cheese, basil leaves, and fresh slices of tomatoes). I was local for just under two weeks and I dined here three times. Very decent prices as well! read more
