During one of our strolls in streets of Amsterdam, we came across this cafe right by one of the canals. We sat outside by the water. The waitress was very friendly and nice. After looking through the menu we decided to get the Dutch sandwich and the lamb meatballs. The Dutch was a daring choice as it is raw Dutch sausage. Although tasty I could not get over the texture of it. The lamb meatballs were very tender and well cooked. They were served on two slices of bread like an open face sandwich. The tomato sauce was homemade with a hint of spice. Overall it was great. read more

I would recommend this place for drinks on a nice day. They have outside seating which was great to sit right on the canals and enjoy the end of the nice day. I would save your money and time and find a better place to eat if you are looking for a meal. There is a place right down the street called Black which looked a little nicer i wish we would have gone to instead. When we sat down at MP's, I was a little appalled because our table was still very dirty when we sat down and our waitress didn't really seam to notice or care. Literally was stained with red sauce and there was a board in the table broken. Also, they didn't give us silverware or napkins. My boyfriend and I got a couple appetizers to share. They were mediocre at best. They definitely were not freshly prepared. Most seemed like they were grocery store bought and deep fried. Which meant everything just tasted bland. read more

I'm traveling solo this weekend from the US, and just needed a place to chill and eat some hearty food for dinner... and HM was the perfect destination! The waiter found me a seat at the bar - my preferred seat when I travel solo. I had the steak w/veggies and fries and it was delicious. I wasn't quite full at the end so I ordered the apple schnitt dessert which is something I wouldn't normally get. My night became even more perfect when a live folky/jazz band started playing in the corner of the bar! Fantastic jams - perfect way to end my trip. read more

This is in my favorite part of Amsterdam (not that I'm an expert or anything, but in my humble opinion), and is so awesome for it's close proximity to the water. We sat here for a couple of hours, having a couple of drinks, and eventually dinner. I had a great peanut chicken dish here. There are many cafés in Amsterdam, but very few of them have me coming back often. Het Molenpad has a great atmosphere, great food, and great location. It is located quite close to the Anne Frank Huis, Damrak, Rambrandplein and Leidseplein, but somehow avoids all the tourist buzz. You see lots of locals having their ewrtensoep here. Excellent for lunch in the weekend, with an optional beer. The usual soundtrack of Blues and Jazz and free wifi makes it a 5-star place. read more

A cozy little cafe situated on the Prinsengracht not far from the Leidseplein. Beer, wine or cocktails to sip on in a place that is an easygoing place to hang out, have lunch or dinner or even just a snack makes it all the more comfortable. During the warmer months there is outside seating next to the canal. I had the chocolate mousse pie along with a glass of the gluhwein on this visit. I'm sure there'll be more visits. read more

This spot is fun, good food and drinks, a place to go while in Amsterdam. Right along the canal, we have gone twice for drinks at the outside tables and ate inside. The food was excellent, I had the prime rib special with a red wine sauce, asparagus, and topped with delicious sweet potato fries, my husband had the stuffed crepe with veggies. Just a nice spot that captures the fun of the canal district. read more

Good fries, but truly problematic wind; my table lost a beer card into the canal and had to chase down some of our reading material; the table next to us lost at least one drink onto the ground, breaking a glass. The food menus are chained to the tables, I'd suggest attaching the drink menus as well. The fries were hot and crispy, with a generous serving of mayonnaise; jenever selection was better than many places, and their coffees and mint teas are served with honey rather than sugar, which was a nice surprise. There's a large pile of blankets to wrap chilly customers in (although one got blown off the pile by a gust), we took advantage of that despite the sun. It's a nice place to watch little boats wander the canals; just keep your hat on tight. read more

Not a whole lot to say... typical cafe with a European menu. It wasn't anything too special and I can barely remember what we ate. The service was average, the atmosphere was pretty easy going... I would say a typical Amsterdam cafe for a typical Amsterdam night when you're more interested in your company than a spectacular meal :) read more

There were two people working both the bar and restaurant end. We sat for ten minutes while the two avoided eye contact for as long as possible before the male server reluctantly approached us. We ordered the satay and fries and two beers, all of which arrived fairly quickly. Great location by the canal, decent food and beer, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. read more

I found this spot on Yelp when looking for a nice gastropub to grab a bite and linger over a few midday beers. There is this great word, "gezellig" (heh-SELL-ick, with lots of guttural throatiness to start and finish the word) that perfectly describes the overarching theme of cozy-welcoming-homeyness that permeates so many Amsterdam pubs/restaurants/coffeshops/brown cafes whatever. Even during the day, this place was still gezellig. Friends, I love me some gezellig. Amsterdam felt like home to me because of it. We had a few beers (watch that alcohol content! two beers at 8+% abv can wreak havoc with sight seeing plans if you're unprepared), a salad, a yummy pumpkin soup (man I love pumpkin soup, and this one had curry - bonus!), and an amazing little sandwich with ham and melted brie - yum. We lingered, we wrote postcards, we drank, we ate, we chatted - it was the perfect vacation pub stop. Outside seating also available; definitely less gezellig, though certainly more alfresco. :) read more

Centrally located but just enough out of the way to not be overrun by tourists Het Molenpad has great food and a relaxed atmosphere one expects to find in an Amsterdam eetcafe. Personally I like often changing specials and have never had a disappointing meal. read more
