As you walk through the inviting doorway, a meticulous array of freshly made pastries and breads lays beautifully on the wooden countertop. After a detailed survey of my options, I opted for a cinnamon almond croissant (the actual German name sadly escapes me) and black coffee. The breakfast pastry was airy, light, and full of flavor. My Italian-inspired espresso coffee was robust and gave me a nice little jolt. My German friends mentioned that Pâtisserie Ludwig constantly rotates their pastry offerings depending on the season and even offers gourmet ice cream for the warm days of summer. Outside of the phenomenal food offerings, the rustic decor made for a magically relaxing environment. My friends and I were lucky enough to have one of the two sitting rooms all to ourselves. These rooms have beautiful wood floors throughout and wooden tables to match. Light from outside bounced beautifully through the windows, making me want to stay inside and chat until dark. If I were a student in Karlsruhe, this would be the perfect place to stay caffeinated and get some solid reading for classes done. At the end of my stay, I was happy to hand over my Euros to the kind and helpful baristas and treat my friend Sammi to her birthday breakfast.

We went for the second time today to take some treats home - so I can't comment on the service for sit-down customers - and plan on coming back very soon. My husband had a cassis cake with a macaroon on top which was just delicious - fruity without an artificial taste and the lightest sponge cake bottom - and I had an "All or Nuts" mousse cake which was beyond words. Nutty with a liquid caramel center, soft mousse and a crumbly bottom. We sure can't wait to go back!

As I was exploring some cities along the Rhein I found myself craving a really good cup of coffee at a really good coffee shop. I'm talking a third wave, artisanal, single-origin, bordering on pretentious, independent coffee shop. Yelp led me to Cafe Bretelles and I was not disappointed! Don't be turned off by what looks like a tiny coffee shop- there's a second level with more seating if the outdoor seats and first level are full. Just place your order at the counter and take a table number. We got an oat milk cappuccino (1 shot of espresso and steamed milk), an oat milk flat white (2 shots espresso and steamed milk), a hot chocolate, and a shot of espresso. The espresso-based drinks were just what I was after. They were rich, bold, and creamy. The hot chocolate was more like warm than hot, but packed on the flavor. Overall, this is a spot I'd frequent for if I was in Strasbourg more often. For now, it'll be a fond memory of a perfect cup of coffee in a sea of underwhelming hotel coffee.

Finally found it and was underwhelming. It was a micro place with seating for 6 people, one seat available and I sat there while my wife ordered. We were told we could not be served, we asked if we could wait inside and rudely told we have to wait outside in the cold. Don't come here there are plenty of bakeries that serve cappuccinos. I am writing his review while siting inside Secret De Table with plenty of seating where it is warm and drinking a great cappuccino.
