My Yelp friend has this thing about "local" places when he travels. Cafe de la Maison du Peuple is probably the most local place we visited when we in Brussels as this seems like a popular place where young local people hang out. Cafe de la Maison du Peuple feels like every other Cafe we been at home. Coffee, Sandwich, Salad, patrons busy on their laptops..... my Yelp friend was yawning and ended up getting Cafe + Viennoiserie (3 EUR) as his breakfast and of course I needed my beer fix. Grisette Fruits des bois (2.50 EUR) was light and fruity, perfect for drinking during lunch time. There is no table service, so you do need to go to the bar area to order and pay, then the food will be delivered to your table. The vibe here at Cafe de la Maison du Peuple is laid back and youthful. I can stay here drink beers and yelp away the whole day just like the locals! read more

Decent place, not the quickest service nor inspired menu, but a nice little terrace to enjoy the hustle and bustle on the churchyard.

Hipster Café/Bar a la Brussels. MacBooks, Ipods, Newspapers, Skinny Jeans, Café de la Maison du Peuple is the local kindergarten to leave your hipster buddy for the morning or afternoon as they sip their drink for an hour or more, and the cycle continues into the early evening until sufficient Free Wifi usage has been consumed. Reminds me of the newer renovated Starbucks but this Maison has just a bit more quick snack options and obviously a whole list of beers available. The occasional Music, Quiz, Gallery and various events keep this place trendy and hot as with the typical Hipster Joint. This Café gets an A-OK, so when I translate it in French... Un Accord. Cafe + Viennoiserie (3,00 €), so why did I get a sad looking pastry along with Lavazza brand coffee? A place such as this, I was expecting a bit more support for the local brand of coffee roaster and fresher artisan pastry shops. Maybe I had high expectations but an airy modern space such as this deserves matching products from the kitchen, just saying... Bad staff, no table service, dirty tables, very poor service,asked for a latte- delivered cold , terrible food and expensive for what it really is. A lot better bars only 5min walks from here , with great food ! The place is a joke, don't go ! read more

Stopped here for lunch and it was very tasty. The place is full of locals and has a coffee-shop vibe with people on laptops everywhere. The food is order at the bar. I got a beer that had a shot of alcohol in it, I not really sure what it was it it was very tasty! I had the quiche of the day which was really tasty. It had aubergines and tomatoes in it. So delicious! Prices weren't too expensive, I would recommend a stop by! read more

who doesn't like La Maison du Peuple? this is one of the best well known places in the neighbourhood of Saint Gilles. easy going bar where you can go at any time of the day, for a coffee or a beer or just to chill and watch people passing by. Decorated on one side with old red bricks and the other side with an amazing wall painting. La Maison du Peuple has a normal Belgian choice of beers, spirits and have happy hour :) Dj's on the week-ends (you need to check first on calendar + style of music as it changes) what it is also very enjoyable is their super terrace on the square when the weather allows it hipsters, artists, cool people, normal people, this bar is always full and has a good vibration.you should definitely try it if you don't know it. read more

Terrible service, rude and unfriendly staff. Not what I'd expect from a cafe in Brussels. Disappointing.

Pretty awesome bar that is always packed with a younger (hipster) crowd. Not the place to go if you want a quiet drink but rather a place to hang around with friends. Good selection of drinks (full bar) and price is average. Food looks ok but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Good luck finding a table during the evenings (I went on a Tuesday evening and I was surprised how full it was, granted there was a WC match that evening but it was 2 hours away). This place is one of my favourite spot in Saint-Gilles. When it is crowded, mostly on week-end or evenings, it becomes quite noisy. Otherwise, it is the perfect spot to work during the week. They have good free internet, quite lots of places to plug your batteries and lots of table, so you will probably find one to sit in. The staff is very friendly, the coffee cost 2 euros, they have good food if you like so and they have really good playlist. So, well, perfect place! read more
